dogmom4
Is there a safe way to preserve pistachios longterm? I can get them fairly cheap right now at my local farmers market if I buy them in bulk and I looove pistachios. If I could find a way to have them as an emergency prep I would be one happy camper. Darlene
Pistachios can achieve a shelf life approaching two years when held at 38°F with 60% humidity so refrigeration would help prolong storage. Roasted nuts begin to deteriorate after 12 to 15 months of storage. As with all things, rotating your storage would help you to keep a stash in case of an emergency. Link to comment
Dee
When I buy walnuts, pecans, sunflower seeds, etc. (don't know anything about pistachios) I throw them in the freezer. I've got some in there that I know have been there 3 or 4 years at least. I don't think I'd try serving them in a dish to company but they work great in baking and especially nice in plain old lettuce salads. They add a nice crunch and taste to salads and it's a way of using them. Link to comment
