furbabymom
My sisters-in-law were telling me the other day about something their mom used to have that they used to chop berries when making strawberry jam. They call it a berry chopper. I have no idea if that's the actual name or not. Anyway, they said it's a little bit like a potato masher, but it has three parallel blades. The two on the outside are stationary and the one in the middle is on a plunger/spring thing and it comes down when you push on it. Is this sounding familiar to anyone? I'd love to find one if they are still in existence... Link to comment
Skagitgal
I seem to remember two different kinds of berry choppers. One was metal, had 3 curved blades on springs, with an elevated hand hold. I've got one somewhere packed away, or I would get you the brand name. Then there is...Ta Ta..THE VEG - O - MATIC. Who could ever forget that handy-dandy little chopper. Now I'm talking the really old version. Mine has a tin collar, and chopping blades that go up and down as you whack the plunger/handle. I still see them in thrift/second hand stores occasionally. As for new...I dunno...havn't seen any lately. Link to comment
Clooney
Hi: I just joined. I don't know if that item exists but I use my pastry hand mixing tool. Don't know what it is called but it is used to cut in shortning, butter etc into flour. It has three sharp blades on the bottom a handle on top and makes short work of cutting up strawberries. Hope this helps. This is my first ever post anywhere. Deb Link to comment

halfpint
The dough blenders don't have a plunger type thing. I have one similar to the link below, mine is from pampered chef and it's great for chopping things: http://www.amazon.com/Quick-Chop-Pro-Del...3138486-8345202 I've used it two ways, one is to put the food in the container , put the bottom on and chop away. The more you press the plunger down, the finer the items get. The other way is to put your food on a cutting board, put the chopper over it (without the bottom) and press the plunger down. I've seen some similar to the one in the link above in several stores for about $12. I've had my pampered chef one for more than 10 years and it's held up well and is used several times a week. Mysticdream44
Wow, I have one of those my DH got me from a yardsale for $1.00, quit a saving from the one they show on Amazon. I like mine, but it doesn't do well with nuts, they stick to the blades, but with everything else it does great. Link to comment
furbabymom
Thanks Ladies! Not quite what I was looking for but great suggestions. Unfortunately my dough blender doesn't have blades and both choppers I've had didn't work worth a darn... Link to comment
