Robert Z
I have been stalling making a new batch of sauerkraut trying to find a nice crock. New ones are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. I got one on ebay from a fellow for a song, and he SWORE up and down the entire inside glazed surface was free from defects, but when I received it, it had a dime size chip missing out of the inside.... grumble grumble grumble... Violet
You don't have to use a crock, there are other options. Some folks go buy a used crock from a crockpot at the thrift stores. Just an idea. You can use a food grade plastic bucket or a gallon jar. I got some glass sun tea jars and used them. Link to comment
MommaDogs
I bought large jars of pickles at BJs and saved the jars. I also bought some large crocks at an antique store, but am now afraid to use them until I have them tested. It seems some of them were painted with lead paint. Link to comment
sassenach
Lehmans catalog online purchase? Check with Ace Hardware if you have one. Maybe they have them on their catalogs. I never asked em, but its worth a try, and may be alot less money altogether than lehmans + S&H Link to comment
Kevin B 123
I buy many things at the Slavation Army re-sale shops, or the Goodwill re-sale shops....... Generally I pay 5 dollares for a crock, 7 for a steamer, 10 for a table, 35 for the kitchen table and 2 chairs....... 1.99 for a shirt............. George Foreman Grill, ( the large one), was 11 dollars, a Jack LaLane Juiceman was 15........ Link to comment
Kevin B 123
RobertZ: I find the crock alone, in many a Salvation Army store, 2 or 3 dollars, ( here any way)I keep an extra one around just tp bake in..... works well for the NO-Kneed breads Link to comment

MommaDogs
I usually find one at my local dump in the take it or leave it shed. Wally World has a nice assortment of them. Link to comment
ol'momma
Try Robinson Ransbottom of Roseville, Ohio. They don't sell direct, but they have a list of retailers. I've had good luck with their products, and find them fairly affordable. Link to comment
