WormGuy
I started making peach pie filling today and followed the reciepe from here: http://www.uga.edu/nchfp/how/can_02/can_pi...ch_filling.html I measured EVERYTHING out as it said for 7 quarts. So tell me how I ended up with only 5 quarts? John Link to comment
Virginia
Don't know, but making jelly and such, I always end up with less, and I do not overpack my jars. Link to comment
HSmom
I'll explain it to you - if you send me a jar! Link to comment
ArmyOfFive4God
I ALWAYS end up with less than it says. But I will help HSM 'splain it all, same bribery rules apply. Link to comment
Violet
It may be due to the size of pieces you cut. Either that or how much they "preshrunk" when you blanched them. I tried posting last night, but it didn't go through. Sorry about all the plumbing issues you had. Hope it is all resolved now for you. You are sure going to be busy ! Link to comment
Amishway Homesteaders
same this happens here from time to time? Made strawberry jelly last week and we had so much we made 3 batches. First one we got 7 jars and a bit left over, next batch we got just 6 jars and a bit left and the last batch we got 7 jars ? I told Lori that it must be that we used the same amount each time but we must be mixing it differant with the spoon each time and getting more air mixed in? could that be it? Link to comment
Jingles
Don't forget taste testing? If you "tested" it's sweetness or anything like that you may get a lot less if it's really good. Just remember if you are a taste tester always use a clean spoon and NEVER double dip the spoon! I'm not a taste tester with my canning before I make them, but I always have a little extra that I test after just to see if it jelled up enough you know Link to comment
