HE Washing Machine

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody,

I hope this is the right place to put this.

I have an HE washing machine. Sometimes, it gets an odor. It was suggested that I leave the door open, but that doesn't always work. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

DH did a HUGE amount of research when ours started to smell. Leaving the door open and the drawer for the soap wasn't enough. He found directions that had you clean it with a mixture (can't remember what) and run it through several times. They also said to wipe down the door and rubber and the inside where the water can sit to help.

Tide, Clorox and several other commercial companies are selling a HE washer 'cleaner'. It's in the laundry detergent aisle.

Here's a link to the Clorox one: http://www.clorox.com/products/clorox-washing-machine-cleaner/?gclid=CIPlqvuwmLICFQQ3nAodhysAYQ

And here's a link to the Tide one: http://www.tide.com/en-US/product/tide-washing-machine-cleaner.jspx

There are other brands also you can check out but regardless, this will take care of the yucky smells for quite a while.

I've used this before to clean out the washer.

1 cup bleach (liquid bleach)

1 cup dish detergent (Sunlight brand for dishwasher, granular form)

Directions:

1 Place 1 cup of bleach in detergent dispenser.

2 Place 1 cup of Sunlight granular dishwasher detergent in washing machine tub.

3 Set wash cycle on HOT and start.

4 Run the washer again without any detergent, bleach or clothes to make sure it all gets rinsed out
