Jeepers
I think I want to store my 'meals in a jar' in food saver bags to save room and my jars. Then I plan to store the bags in a mylar bag in a food bucket. Probably overkill but they have to live somewhere. Anyway...now I'm wondering about the spices and powdery ingredients. Are they going to be sucked out of the bags? Are they going to jamb up my Food Saver? Am I over thinking? I suppose I could use mylar bags with an oxygen absorber but I really need to use up some of my food saver bags that I already have. Any thoughts on this? Quote Link to comment
sassenach
Jeepers, is there a way you can use a coffee filter to cover the spices, or put the spices in a paper twist then bag it and vaccuum seal it? The coffee filter method works in jars as far as I know. Maybe it can work in bags too?? Quote Link to comment
lovinit
You could put your spices in a snack size baggie inside the vac pack. sometimes I just fold a Paper towel piece at the top of the bag. Quote Link to comment

When I'm vacume sealing powdery substances ... even flour etc. ...I fold a coffee filter in half with the round edge down, and anything that would get sucked up, is stopped by the filter. Also works in jars to keep you from sucking the powders up into your hose. Just lay the coffee filter over the top once your jar is full. Also...if you do use the "baggie" method inside your sealer bag, be sure to "break" the clip off so it doesn't puncture. I "zip" it across the top to close it, pull the clip on off, then take my scizzors and snip a little cut across the zippered part so my vacume sealer can suction from the baggie also. Dehydrate2store does this when she's putting baggies inside of vacume sealed bags. Edited February 4, 2013 by Philbe Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
Off to Youtube Dehydrate2store. I really like her videos. Wrapping powdery stuff in a coffee filter first sounds promising too. Quote Link to comment
