  1. It just struck me that the final line of the problem is not based in reality!!! If I were actually at the store they would be overcharging me if they collected more than $16.00!!! 1 burger plus 1 single order of fries plus 1 drink $5 + $1 + $10 = $16 Let me also say..........................I would NEVER PAY $10 for a CUP of soda!!!
  2. The question isn't how many died, but how many were left after all but 6 died!
  3. I watched a "Hallmark" movie the other day........"Silent Night." The movie was (loosely) based on a true event that occurred over Christmas Eve/Christmas Day. The movie was great, but that is not what I really want to discuss here. Seeing the movie put me in a reflective mood about our "greatest generation." The weather our soldiers endured during the Battle of the Bulge was horrific: it was freezing cold, the foxholes were wet, and there was snow everywhere. On top of that, the army had not issued cold weather gear to the troops so they were not physically prepared for the conditions they found themselves in. Yet they held fast, stayed at their posts, and remained faithful to their oaths. This morning when took my dog out I was struck by just how heroic these men really were. The weather here, today, is somewhat bitter cold. There is no snow and the ground is dry. I found myself wishing that Pashi would hurry up and do her "business" so I could get back inside where it was warm and dry. Then it hit me. I was complaining about a few minutes of discomfort which would be easily remedied in a very short time. These men endured days of conditions worse than I can imagine. It made me truly grateful for the sacrifices our warriors made/make on our behalf.....on my behalf. Thank you to anyone who has ever served in the U.S military. You are awesome. You are appreciated. You are loved.
  4. Let's start the New Year off with a bit of a quiz. Anyone who raises animals should "Ace" this.
  5. I'll join.....................as long as I don't have to dance! (Two left feet and two knee replacements that make my legs feel like lead.) But I will attend and enjoy watching OTHER people dance. I brought some SF treats too...............
  6. Love this one: "Each new generation born is in effect an invasion of civilization by little barbarians, who must be civilized before it is too late." I don't know when he wrote this, but it is sooooooooooooooo true for THIS generation. One can only hope that there are enough Christians and conservatives to "train up" the next generation and redeem the time.
  7. Good reasoning, and..................mostly correct. In the third line the fries do indeed work out to being $2. HOWEVER, that is the value for 2 servings of fries! In the final line there is only a single serving................so $1. Next, the recognition of the multiplication sign in the final line changes the equation from the previous lines having been all addition...so good catch there. Let's look at the final line numerically: $5 + $1 x $10 = ? Lets use the mathematical law of PEMDAS to solve this: There are no parantheses. There are no exponents. Multiplication is next in line. So one single fries ($1) times one soda ($10) equals $10. No division to worry about. Addition is next. So the equation now becomes one hamburger ($5) plus the previous calculation ($10). No subtraction in this puzzle. Rewritten..............$5 + ($1 x $10) or $5 + $10 = $? Answer.......................$15 Merry Christmas! Now you can enjoy your day without worrying about this any more.
  8. UPDATE: No, my car hasn't been found. BUT, they did run a follow-up story. The story is also posted to their FB site. I will keep an eye on the comments to see if any information is forthcoming.
  9. Can you solve this puzzle? It will not only test your math acuity, but also your powers of observation. (Image attached. It doesn't really work as a "quiz" if I have to describe the graphic.)
  10. Even if you don't like the original "Bohemian Rhapsody" song, I think you WILL LIKE this adaptation. Enjoy. And,,,,,,,,Merry CHRISTmas!!! https://www.facebook.com/simonne.dale/posts/1642927882399992?pnref=story
  11. Cont'd Here are some close-ups of the tree. See if you can spot an ornament you've made and sent over the years. Let us know which one is yours!!!
  12. A couple of years ago I bought an artificial Christmas tree that was marked down by 75% or so, if I remember correctly. At any rate, I've never put it up before. But this year my son is staying with me so I MADE HIM drag it out and help me put it up! This is my tree "under construction" This is my tree all decked out with the Mrs S ornaments collected over the years. Continued in next post .....................
  13. I added this comment to the FaceBook issue of the article posted by the newspaper: The stolen registration was from MY car. It was stolen from the parking lot of my apartment complex last Monday. It is a 1993 teal green Honda Accord (4 door) with HANDICAP (DPD8616) license plates. If you spot it, please report it to the police. I also called the newspaper today and talked with a reporter. I pointed out that my car had Handicap plates and told him about the small annoyances that go along with having had the car taken. You know, the stuff I mentioned in the other post. Anyway, Nathan said that they may do doing a follow-up to the story and thart he would pass the information on to his editors. Who knows, maybe it will get some play.
  14. Hey Jeep--I was inspired by your suggestion about contacting the local paper about my story so I went to their website. Lo and behold I saw this article: That wasn't MY car, but it was MY REGISTRATION! I had received a call from the police last night asking me if I knew the Gilchrist woman or if she had any reason to be in possession of MY REGISTRATION. Hopefully they will be able to find out where MY CAR is!!!
  15. Just received ornaments from Snowmom and windmorn. That makes everybody except Christy, and I understand she may not be sending anything out. So................my collection is complete. Time to REVEAL pics to the forums Snowmom.
  16. Little things add to the aggravation of having my car stolen. Things like: My shopping bags were in the car. This is extremely frustrating because a law forbidding stores from providing "single use" shopping bags just went into effect in California! This means you either bring your own bags (like in Europe) or you PAY for EACH bag they "provide" at the register. (These bags are 'designed' to be reusable. That's WHY they can be 'provided' by the store.) My laundry soap was in the trunk. Only had enough on hand in the house for my son to take (ie-walk) to the laundry room and do a load of clothes. My Rx glasses were in the glovebox. (I only use them for night driving.) My seat cover for the store power shopping carts was in the back seat. Without it I get "stuck" to the vinyl of the cart seats and it is hard to get up and down from the seat to put stuff in the cart. My handicap hang tag was on the visor. Need it now to use with anyone who gives me a ride to the store so they can legally park in a handicap space for me. Like I said................it's the little things that are so irritating!!!
  17. Cold for whipped cream. Room temp for egg whites. (I think )
  18. everybody. Right about now I am wishing I had a picture of my "junker" so I could post it to FB and have my friends keep an eye out for it. I had another brilliant idea though..........I asked our postal carrier to keep an eye out for it. You know there are more of them than there are police officers!
  19. Went to bed--had a car. Took dog out this morning to do her business--no longer have a car. Have comprehensive coverage with a low deductible but Blue Book value may not be enough to replace it even with another used car. Prayers for recovery of said automobile would be greatly appreciated.
  20. Wow! If they tried to force her into the trunk I would be worried about them returning too. Prayers for your safety and her quick healing.
  21. So far I have received ornaments from Pauline, Becca Ann, Trudy, and mommato3boys. Thank you ladies.
  22. Mailed my ornaments this morning. Christy--it's going to take 3 weeks for yours to arrive. Everyone else, should have theirs by Thursday, Friday at the latest.
  23. Back in October (shortly after I signed up for this year's exchange) I told Snowmom my ornament ideas weren't working out and I withdrew from the exchange. She posted it in the sign-up thread, but by that time I think everyone was already working on theirs and never revisited the thread, so they never "got the memo." As a result, I have been receiving ornaments anyway. And they are wonderful.............thank you. This prompted me to remember an idea I had all but forgotten about. Well, guess what??? That's right. That idea came to fruition!!! I will be sending out my ornaments sometime this week. Merry Christmas everybody.
  24. The "tradition" is that Snowmom won't post any pics until everybody has sent and received their ornaments. That way it doesn't spoil the "surprise" when you open your mail and unveil the ornament you've received.
