  1. Just wondering what you ended up getting. ------------------
  2. Hi there Birgie, Beb and Do. I don't have a lot of time today, just canned a canner of beans and have two large kettles of plums to cook and juice. No, I won't make the jelly today, just make the juice and can that. Also have clothes in washer and in dryer. Glad your DH is ok, Beb, and hope he doesn't have to have that happen to him again. Brigie, I am glad you enjoy your work. That means so much. From the sounds of things, I would say this is a job you wouldn't want to give up. The children are lucky to have someone like you to be there for them. Do, sorry about your guppies. I know what you mean about having so many and then they are gone. Do you plan to get a lot of them, or just a few next time? ------------------
  3. So sorry your cat hasn't been found yet. Hope he comes home soon. ------------------
  4. Congratulations Lowlander and Hubby. May God grant you many many more years of wedded bliss. Aren't late Summer/Fall weddings great. ------------------
  5. That is a cute picture. We have 2 dogs, part German Shepherd and part Spits. We have had them for almost 11 years now. Being the large dogs that they are, we are so thankful for them being with us yet. One is a male and one is a female. The male, Prince, has had a lot of medical problems and is blind in one eye and has been getting worse vision in the other eye. He still loves to play and enjoyed it when the grandsons were here to through the ball for him to get. Queen, on the other hand is very much the lady. She hasn't chased the ball since she was about 4 years old. She has allergies and we have to get medication for that. They both love all the attention they can get. I am sure they have kept people from coming to our house with their bark. I think that is a real good thing at times. I do know that some of the UPS drivers have been a bit afraid of them even though they are in a fenced in yard. Think it is because they are so big and bark a lot. Both dogs want to be where I am and follow me from room to room. Right now they are sleeping within 6 feet of me. ------------------
  6. Just wondering if you remember what your first sewing project was. My first project was a smocked apron in the 7th grade for Home Ec. In the years after that we made skirts, and dresses. I made two dresses in school. We also painted on cloth, (I did a dresser scarf), then we crocheted around it. I gave what I made to my youngest sister. I made a pink suit to wear for graduation, it had a slim skirt and a jacket that fit just over the waist of the skirt. Wow, I had almost forgotten about some of the things I had made in school. Of course that was so very long ago. ------------------
  7. Oldpine has several or maybe all of the 'Sackett' books and a couple on tape. I have listened to some of them. They are so good. Now, I just have to let you know that I have read well over 30 books in the past 3 weeks. Of course, they were all childrens books and I was reading them to the two grandsons. ------------------
  8. I want one too. That is all my mom had when I was growing up too, and it too was a Maytag. They would be great for quilts, blankets, bed spreads, and rugs. I have never seen one on a garage/yard sale around here. But, if I do, I think I will grab it fast. ------------------
  9. Darlene, you are so right about this being a personal decision. I had and still have questions about having this surgery done. But for her and others, this is the way for them to go. I know I could never have it done myself and I would not recommend it to anyone who can lose on a diet. This was the only way my dd figured she would ever be able to loose. Now since Jan. she has lost 98 pounds. I am very proud of her. She now eats more healty than she ever has in her life. She never cared for veggies or fruits and now is eating them. Again, I didn't put this post in to recommend it, just to show what can be done if need be. ------------------

    Uh oh....

You are doing GREAT!!!!! I've been sort of busy so haven't done any posting. See the Sun Porch and my post there to see what I have been doing. I know I need to get busy on my diet and will one day soon. ------------------
  11. Home is the best way to go, but when it becomes a problem, then the nursing home is the place. When one can't do anything for themselves, they need more care than if they can get around. We had mil with us for about 10 years and had 'home health care' come and bath and dress her and clean her room. I was working at that time, so couldn't do it myself. But she got to the place where she was unable to do anything for herself and had to be put in the nursing home. Remember, too, my niece is in a nursing home. They do get good care, but, still, if possible, home with family is the best place. ------------------
  12. You did great, Deblyn. Of all the things I have made, I don't remember making pajamas. I am sure your niece will love them.
  13. Hi welcome to the family. We have 3 adult children and 7 grandchildren. We just had two of the youngest here for the past almost 3 weeks so I haven't been on much at all. We have 2 dogs who think they are people. We have never been to Ohio, but I would love to come sometime. I work on genealogy and I have ancesters who lived in Ohio. I love genealogy and am interested in history. Therefore, I have to say I post in the Family Album more than some of the other forums. MM will get to your sig one of these days after she gets settled into her new home. But she is busy for a while. Anyway, is nice to meet you and happy you have joined the family. ------------------
  14. Drake, Hannah Larue Drake m. James Carter, parents of Anna Carter, b. 01 September 1796. Anna m. to Nathan Sidwell: their daughter Elizabeth Sidwell m. Horace Lee Jones and their son Thomas was my great grandfather. I have a nephew whose mother-in-law is a Sullivan, but I have no information on her. That is all the connections I have in my family. Sorry about that, just can't help you more. Maybe you might have a connection to some of the names above. Others are: Lee, we have been told that there is a connection with Robert E. Lee, but we have not been able to find it yet. My ggggrandfather was Joseph Hiram or Hiram Joseph Lee. We are not sure if the Hiram or Joseph was his last name. Clark, another ggggrandfather was David Clark he married Bertha (Bethany) Eldredge, they had a daughter Dorcas Bertha Clark and she married Moses Martin. We are looking for information on both the Clark and the Eldredge sides. Now, Robert Martin was married to Rebecca Lewis, they were the parents of Moses Martin, and we have very little on the Lewis family. Anyone with any information on any of these people??? ------------------
  15. Bringing to the top. ------------------
  16. Sorry I have been gone, but check the Sun Porch and you will understand. Now, to get to the questions you have here. First, I would suggest you get a few charts printed out then, start with you and your own family fill them out. I have listed a site in an earlier post that has charts, and Fran has also listed a site in this post. After you have filled all you know, start with other relatives, parents grandparents, aunts, uncles cousins etc: ask questions and get any and all information you are able to get from them. After you get all information you can from those around you, then you can start with other things. I would suggest you go to the states you are interested in. I mean on the Internet, they each have a place where you can put in queries, this is where you are able to put names, dates and such for those you are looking for. I like to go to http://www.usgenweb.com then from there you are able to go to the state projects pages and then to the state map or list of states. From there just click on the state and get to where you want to go, then the county you are wanting. If you are not sure of the county, they have a place for that too. Also, at roots web there is an area where you put in the name and you get information on the person if anyone has put information on the net. Go to http://www.rootsweb.com at the top of the page you will find a place where you can fill in the name you are looking for. When the page comes up, click on 'WorldConnects'. This will give a list of the name and you will see just how many others are looking for the same person. Sometimes you are able to download gedcoms from this site, other times they don't have it so you can. I just did it for Murt Sullivian and this is the page I came up with. There were only 2, but that is a start. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/i...&given=Murt Now, at the bottom of that page, there is a place you can change to another name so you can just continue from there. Please let us know what else we can do to help. When the 'Mrs. Survival Newsletter' comes out there will be lessons on Genealogy. Family Tree Maker is a very good program and you can get different versions. We started out with one of the first and now have the #7. They do run different prices and of course where you get them makes a difference on the price too. You can pay up to and maybe above $80.00 for a program. But there are some for free on the net. The one Goosie suggested is probably a good one. I just did a search and found this one. http://www.family-trees.net/gene-downloads.htm Hope it will do the trick for you. ------------------
  17. Well, it has been a while since I have been on line or here on Mrs. S to post. Sorry about that, but, as I have said in earlier posts, I have been busy entertaining the 2 young grandsons. They went home last night, boy, miss them already. Well after having them here almost 3 weeks, you can't blame me for missing them. Now I just wonder how many times I will wake up in the night and think I hear someone saying 'Grandma' or during the quiet of the day. It has been soooo good to have little ones around, but it was tiring for us too. After all, our baby is almost 31 and these were his babies. I want to say a big WELCOME to all the new posters. Happy Birthday to all who I missed saying it to and just say 'Hi' to everyone and that I will be trying to get back to posting a lot more now. This week will be just getting to the posts that I can as now I need to do some cleaning. Wonder why? HA. After not doing anything much for the past 3 weeks. Oh well the boys were much more important to me than a few dust bunnies. Please forgive me if I miss posting where I should for a while. Any questions I need to answer I will do my best to get to them as soon as I can. I see there are a few things in the F. A. Forum that I need to get to so will try to get to them within the next few days. For the past several days we have worked on the Alphabet, making a little booklet for each of the boys. Of course the youngest one, age 3, didn't do much with it but, that was ok. We had also made a sticker book and put stars stickers in it for doing certain things. We made play dough, we have colored and cut and pasted and man, what else. They played outside a lot and had many many baths, two a day somedays. The have been on picnics and have met some cousins around here who they don't see much. They played with our old 'Light Bright' and other things that have been here for many years. The Light Bright was one that we had for our kids. We went to the library and they picked out books for us to read to them at nap and bed times. The library also had games and puzzles as well as other toys that you can check out. I think we have about 20 books to take back along with two educational puzzles and 4 movies. We got the books on Wednesday evening and yes, they were all read to them. Sometimes I read 2- 4 books at nap time or bed time, but they all were read. Well, you know one thing about the kids being here, I have finishes a craft item I started about a year ago and also did another one. This I was able to do while they watched movies or just played with the toys. I found out there is life without the computer and internet, at least when I am not alone. We had thunder storms this morning so didn't get on line as soon today as I wanted to. Anyway, need to get this posted and see what else I can do to answer other posts. Just know I have missed being on and love ya all. ------------------
  18. So sorry, ((((Ed and Peg)))) Please keep us informed. Praying for all of you. ------------------

  22. I'm so sorry about your loss, Deb. I know it is a rough thing to go through, as we went through it a few years back. We will be going through it again sometime soon probably as our 2 dogs are about 11, and the vet says their life span is about 12. Just know that a lot of us understand and are with you. ------------------
  23. Sorry I am so late with this, but, haven't been on line much with the grandsons here. Congratulations Dee and your DH. Hope you have another 36 + years. Isn't great to think that time has gone but doesn't feel like it. ------------------
  24. Yes, Becca, they do grow up before you know it. Then, you have grandchildren. Have a great year with your home schooling. ------------------
  25. Hi Wendi, nice to see you back home again. Right now we have two grandsons with us until the first of Sept. So have been busy and not on line much. You just take care now and post when you can. ------------------
