  1. Missy, we did have DH's mom with us for about 10 years. You are doing a great thing to help older family members. It looks like you are thinking ahead to the time they can no longer climb stairs and such, this is good. Like Debbie said, one things that is a must is a shower that is easy to get in and a place to set. They make nice showers for handicap people now days, and it is nice for anyone. And again, Debbie was right about the stool in the bathroom, it needs to be a little higher and handrails by it. From the sounds of your post, the wing would be where they could do some of their own cooking also, is that right? Sometimes you can find stoves with the switches on the front, that would prevent them from having to reach over the burners to turn it on and off. Light weight kettles and such is a help for older people too. Lightweight dishes, or dishes that won't break would be good too. Light switches are sometimes hard for crippled hands as well as door knobs. Dimmer switches are usable for the lights and a lever type knob is good for doors. Please let us know what you end up doing. ------------------

Wow, that room sounds very nice, glad you got it. With all those people living with you, you do need a space to call your own. Deb, I think you are very close to who is living there. ------------------
  3. Hi there Missy, and welcome back. Good to see you again. I know what you mean about the humidity. I will be so happy when it cools off and the humidity is no problem any more. Yes, we have had high humidity most of the Summer up here in MN too. The temps aren't as high as what you have, but we have had a number of high 90's and a couple in the 100's range too. Kids are wonderful, enjoy them while they are small, as they grow up to fast. Sorry about your problems with the older children, I know they do things that can hurt. Been there done that. ------------------
  4. SueC, I have never made a hoop skirt, but I did wear them years ago. Mine had been bought as they were in style and 'everyone' wore them. The hoop skirt would be much fuller than a regular half slip, so if you made it, I would say you should add several inches to the bottom. I should think using the half slip should work fine, as long as you make it a lot fuller at the bottom. I did a quick search and one girl who made a hoop skirt used polyeurithene tubing. Here is the url for what she did. http://www.elizabethanlady.com/alcegafarthing.html Hope this helps. ------------------
  5. Climb stairs, this is so important, it goes with the walking. When the knees start to go, this gets harder and harder. Just have to keep working at it. Also to enjoy the out of doors, be able to go out when the weather is nice. I don't want to have to be in a nursing home. ------------------
  6. How about 'You always hurt the one you love' I think that was from the movie, 'The Greatest Show On Earth'. Do you remember that movie? ------------------
  7. Oh Deb (Beb), oh yes, that was funny. I needed to laugh. This way you can get some discounts too. I could tell you a good story and it was before DH or I was 50. We were out to eat and he, yes, he got a senior discount. It just go to show you that sometimes they take your graying hair to mean you are older. ------------------
  8. I put it in my favorites. This is a very good site with a lot of interesting reading and ideas. Thanks for posting it, Ginger!
  9. It is very comfortable outside today. But, inside, I did turn the A/C on for a little while. Will open the windows up and let the nice fresh air in. Humidity is way down, this I am so thankful for. ------------------
  10. Happy Birthd to you Cookie, hope this is the best one yet. Now, the ice sure looks nice, here Midnightmon, let me help you there. Did you get enough for both of us? Sure is a nice sculpture, isn't it. Just wait till we get done with it. As long as it looks about the same, no one will ever know what we did, right, Midnightmom? ------------------
  11. Do, that is to bad about your guppies. Yes, they do grow fast. Years ago, when we lived in CA, we had a lot of them too. We had DH's brothers tanks. Three of them two 10 gallon and one 30 gallon tank. We had all kinds of fish, but we too were overrun with guppies. Then we gave the tanks back to DH's brother and haven't had any since. I take it you are all doing great today. Do, Beb and Brigie. How did work go with those big guys? ------------------
  12. Praying for you, your dad and your friend, Darlene. Please keep us updated about your dad and your friend. ((((Hugs)))) \0/ ------------------
  13. I was given some green beans yesterday so will be canning them today, I think there are enough for a canner full. I sure do miss having a garden at times. Would love all the fresh veggies, sure are better than what you buy in the can. ------------------
  14. This is sooo good. I use to be a gardener, and wish I were now, but things don't always go the way you want them to. Just can't be outside much anymore, the heat and I just don't get along. I remember working from the time I got up until almost dark trying to get things picked. Number 12 is the best one and I know we always covered our plants in the evening if we knew there would be a frost. ------------------
  15. Yes, number 2 of 4 arrived yesterday late afternoon. His name is Christopher Jordan, he weighs 8 lbs., 1 oz and is 20 inches long. One more baby is due this month and the 4th is due the middle of September. Anyone else have a baby coming?? ------------------
  16. Wow, this site has a lot of sites listed. I haven't been here before, have any of you? http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Strawn/sites.htm Hope someone can get help by using this site. ------------------
  17. So good to see you again, hope you will be able to keep on posting. We have missed you around here you know, so if possible, keep on posting. Ok, it is only just after 10:30 here, so have brought some nice warm muffins and coffeecake for everyone. Morning Bridie, hope you are having a good day. ------------------
  18. Wow!!!!! You did GREAT girl. You deserve a nice nap today. Keep this up and we will all have to really work hard to catch up to you. Thanks for posting your miles. Next? ------------------
  19. Didn't do much last week so can only count 7 miles. Sure hope to get more miles in soon. Ok, who is next? ------------------
  20. So sorry for all your problems Spit. Hope things settle down one of these days for you. You just take care and don't worry about posting. We all understand. I will be praying for you and your family. ------------------
  21. Wow, a winter in FL. sounds real nice Cookie. Except for the humidity down there. I just can't take the humidity. Of course, there is a problem with DH working too, he might not like it if I left him that long. ------------------
  22. Welcome to all of you new people. Pull up a chair, or set on the swing and enjoy. I brought in some warm muffins and a coffeecake to start the morning with. ------------------
  23. Oh yes, this is another great site. I went there and she has really put a lot more information on her site since I had been there last. I hadn't been there for some time. Thanks for posting 'Cyndies List'. There are so many of them out there. ------------------
  24. Wow, MsAng, that is a lot of quilts to do. I am having problems getting just the two done. But, as you see in my post below, I did get the blocks cut. Deblyn, there is a (not the best), picture of a couple quilts in my web site if you would like to see them. This should get you to the album. http://snowmom.www.50megs.com/CRWp3.html The site needs to be updated, but I don't know how to do it. My niece, who is now in the nursing home is the one who helped me set it up a couple years ago. One of these days, I hope to find someone to help me update it. ------------------
  25. Come on LCM, time is getting away from you. You must hurry now and get that outfit made. Oh yes, we sure do want pictures. ------------------
