Cat
I can't remember what Violet and Crazy4Canning say... they're our resident experts, trained in the latest and best canning methods. But here's a list of threads containing "ghee" that may help, at least until Violet and C4C come in. http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?ac...ighlite=%2Bghee One of the very best threads is in the "Deeper Survival" forum, "The Edge". You'll need to ask Darlene to unlock the door for ya! http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?sh...mp;#entry314148 The thread is called "Canning Butter" http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22496 I haven't tried canning ghee. I might, if TSHTF. Link to comment
Violet
It may be safe, but depends. If you can get out ALL of the milk solids from the butter. I personally would not risk it. If you don't get out all of the milk solids it can lead to botulism. I would rather just keep some good oil on hand instead. That and I freeze butter. You can get powd. butter, too. Just mix with water. Link to comment
Jake
I couldn't believe it when I went to our local ALDI store they had butter for $1.39 a pound. That may be the cheapest I've ever seen it. We bought a case of 24 pounds and will freeze it. We always use butter (no margarine) I guess it's a Wisconsin farmer thing. Link to comment
TurtleMama
The powdered butter is really good, but some people don't like it simply mixed with water. You can reconstitute it with water, then add salt to taste and a little bit of veggie oil to make it a little more like the store-bought butter we're used to. Link to comment
