GirlNextDoor
My dad is weird, experimented with this & said he liked it. I never heard of such a thing. Has anyone ever eaten it? Link to comment
Cat
Can't say as I've ever heard THAT one before. But I add applesauce to my bean soup sometimes. Link to comment
PoGo
I haven't tried it, however, it doesn't sound really weird to me. I've heard of people using other fruits in beans, such as grape jelly. And of course, some people use maple syrup or brown sugar, etc. Link to comment
TurtleMama
I put a couple of tablespoons of finely chopped crystallized ginger in my beans to reduce gas in the bellies of those who eat them (myself included, LOL!) -- maybe the orange peel does the same thing? You can't taste the ginger and it really works! Link to comment
Skagitgal
Hey, try it. I have done that with orange/lemon peel. Dried and pulverized. To me it leaves a 'cleaner' taste. Probably reduces gas also, but I didnt use it for that reason. Out of peel, try a teaspoon of vinegar, lemon juice or or oj from the fridge. Link to comment
GirlNextDoor
That is interesting...How would it reduce gas? Link to comment
TurtleMama
I have absolutely no idea of the physiology behind the ginger reducing gas, but I know it works...there are times I've forgotten to add it and my DH and I are ready to put each other outside by the end of the day! hehe Link to comment
