Small business revolution needed in Gary

StoryDiscussionPosted: Monday, July 19, 2010 12:00 am | (11) Comments

An Urban Entrepreneurial Educational Revolution of mind, body and soul is needed -- a gradual sustained integrated process that can be measured. This revolution should be fueled by small businesses, which fuel economies and our nation. They provide jobs, goods and services that impact our quality of life.

Gary is economically challenged -- an understatement for some. However, its potential is vast. Gary governmental officials and grassroots activists can ignite this kind of revolution by motivating proactive community residents and organizations to pool their financial and intellectual capital for the purpose of individual and mutual benefit.

A global revolution of change is the kind that catapulted Rwanda, a country decimated by genocide in the 1990s, to 67th on the list of countries that made the latest Ease of Doing Business ranking from the World Bank. As stated in the June 2010 issue of the Harvard Review, this study ranked Rwanda on one sub index as 11th worldwide in the ease of opening a new business.

A more aggressive exploration of entrepreneurship can possibly spark a revolutionary interest and involvement in the community economic development of Gary.

Sounds like a call to Jihad/revolution instead of a true letter. People have used such tactics since newspapers began.

The letter, edited for content, but not rearranged--just careful deletion, and you get an entirely different letter...one more fitting to the writer's name...

Sounds like just another God-forsaken mohammedan community organizer from Chicago.

Wow.

We really need more of those .....................

Louis1, That's what I was thinking, another 'organizer from Chicago'. Altho, I do know not everyone from Chicago is bad. a few bad ones give them all a bad rep. For the last 2 years my Dad has said he was born anywhere else, and he's 88!

oh Pig! You made me giggle. The Happy Hoosier Momma (whose location is the Great Lakes) is consider Great Chi and we just get annoyed anymore. But you should see the tag line I came up with for our website. The only person that would be ticked if we posted it would be my FIL but DH, another staff person and her husband/IT guy all loved it.

We see alot of interesting things that just don't make national news.......

I was redoing the letter in my head. You came up with something similar to what you did. I've worked in the city over the years and it's interesting to say the least. Not sure if I would be comfortable working there now but it wasn't that many years ago, I was there at night (escorted out of buildings and to my car - and watched to make sure I made it past the first light but. Scary stuff.
