The bill is apparently real...but not necessarily some of the information/interpretation about the bill. I found information at this link that discusses this - specifically it talks about this bill pertaining to regulation of interstate transport of food not necessarily locally grown food. That said...I'm NOT a fan of all the government regulations out there that claim to be "for our good" but I won't be worrying about growing my garden.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/organic.asp The myth and fact portion at the bottom was especially interesting.

the government has proven over the years that they will try to extend anything into interstate commerce because that helps them gain control. This could extend to the interstate transport of seeds. Do you want the government to be coming down on Baker Creek or Seed Exchange through this bill? Or dictating where you can buy your seeds by putting people out of business or making their expenses so high, they either cannot sell or you cannot afford to buy?

I have read parts of the bill. It gives a LOT of control over what we eat to the government. I don't always necessary go with what snopes says if their information is not from a third party. I go to opencongress.com to read this type of thing.

I don't think that exemptions (which can be eliminated at a later date) are enough to keep us safe.

Monsanto is behind this bill so that they can control seed and fertilizer all over the world. Farmers in third world countries can not afford the seed and fertilizer. It is a crime if Monsanto seed blows onto your land. It is a crime is you seed save. They have confiscated non-pasturized raw milk and organically grown vegetables in California with police force from family farms. They are intimidating farmers who save seed from their own crops for their own use to feed their families who are not selling to the public. They have worked every angle to control the food supply of the entire world. And the worst part is--genetically modified seed that is causing all sorts of new diseases and totally weird plants. Frankenfood is at grocery stores near you already and they do not have report it on the labels that it is genetically modified. There are many Utube videos of scientists reporting at conferences on this subject and it is scary.

The top crops being affected so far are corn and soybeans. Almost every processed food has one of these ingredients in some form.Jusst one more form of greed and corruption in epic proportions.

This whole S510 scares the heck out of me. And the bottom line is that NO ONE has the right to tell me what I can and can not eat!

IF I CHOOSE TO EAT BEANS THAT YOU GREW ON YOUR PROPERTY...........I SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO IT.

If I choose to drink raw, unpasteurized milk from your farm, I should have the right to do so.

The frequent and increasing "farm raids" all over the country regarding products made with raw milk are only the beginning. It's outrageous what some of these farmers have been put through. And hard to believe it's happening here in America. In my opinion, it's not about food safety.......It's about big ag. business that wants to "cut out" or "force" the small farmers out of business.

This is very scary folks...... And it will affect every one of us.

Please take a minute to read some of the following articles. You will quickly become enlightened about the S510 and why it is so bad for all of us!

Morningland Dairy Farm Raid

http://uncheeseparty.wordpress.com/

Within these pages and posts you will learn about the "farm raid" that took place at Morningland Dairy in Missouri. The owners, the Dixon family, are having to fight against orders by the FDA and Missouri Milk Board to destroy 50,000 lbs of cheese that has never been tested, nor have they been allowed to test for pathogens. That's right......THE FDA NEVER TESTED THE CHEESE....The FDA just says that the cheese "MIGHT" contain dangerous bacteria!

Here is another article about the above mentioned Farm Raid

Uninformed or under-informed hysteria serves no one.

This bill is not something new. It has been in the works for more than 4 years now with plenty of time for discussion and debate and analysis. There is ample truthful information available on this bill available on the web, much of it from sources that do NOT have their own personal agenda to push like the sources quoted above have.

Consider the viability of the source of your info and then read ALL sides of the issues involved before claiming the sky is falling.

Right now, the they are going after raw milk producers with the statement that there is no "inherent right" to eat anything. This is their reasoning to be able to control.

The reasoning behind raw milk that I have heard is that you can get some diseases if the dairy and cows are not properly taken care of. Of course, other products that have been approved that have caused more deaths are okay(think prescription medications).

So, if you can get food poisoning from a product on a farm, how far a leap is it that they will start dictating a lot more about how crops are raised, including what type of seeds you use. They are already using the media to debate whether or not organic is better for you. Of course, they are using "certified organic" which, IMHO, is not all it is cracked up to be. Could they make it that you do not have an "inherent right" to eat organic so the farmer cannot sell those items.

And, finally, if this is such a good idea, why did it take 4 years and why did they attach it to HR 3082 which was paraded out as a veterans benefits law and ram it through after the dems lost so many seats in the Nov election and before the new Republican majority was seated.

The fact that the government should have any control over what I do or dont eat, and that they think they can tell me what RIGHT I do or dont have when it comes to what FOOD I choose to eat, makes me want to scream.
