lumabean
are they closing to everyone, or just non-members? Quote Link to comment
lumabean
I figured i'd check out a lady's YouTube channel - she does a lot with the LDS cannery (somewhere in the south). Anyway, about 4 hours ago she posted a video on this topic. According to her, it's effective July 1, 2013 - no more canning in the east, but that you can still buy the pre-canned items or the supplies and borrow the manual canner (depending on individual cannery policy). She did mention too that she believes it's eventually going to happen with *all* of the canneries. Edited May 4, 2013 by lumabean Quote Link to comment
ScrubbieLady
Old news?http://www.skcfc.org/yeswecan/ This is about up in the northwest. But this quote from the page makes me wonder: "Second, new federal food regulations with an eye on homeland security have made it virtually impossible to rely on volunteers, the core of the cannery workers" What does homeland security have to do with using volunteers in the canneries? Twilight
This came in one of my emails..... I got this from a reliable source, but he wasn’t sure of itsauthenticity and I don’t know how to verify it because it hasn’thappened and the Church hasn’t made an announcement about ityet. The Article says that Canneries West of the Mississippi Riverwill be closed. That is wrong, the Canneries affected are thoseEAST of the Mississippi as the article states farther on, theWestern Canneries will have to pick up the slack for the closedEastern Canneries. This is a harbinger of more and tighter regulations on food ofall types by the Food and Drug Administration and theAgricultural Department. As a result, farmers and producers areburdened with more regulations that will result in shut downsbecause of higher operating costs and fines for those not incompliance. How does this affect you and me? One; food will be in shortersupply as farmers and producers cut back growing and packagingbecause of the added costs to comply with the new and stricterregulations. Two; we will see the price of food skyrocketbecause of shortages and the added costs to grow and package/canthe available food. The bottom line is, now is the time to “top-off” and “fill-in”your food supply.Sell a gun or some ammunition if you have to but get it now before it’snot available or too costly. The Lord said through Isaiah: “Wherefore do ye spend money forthat which is not bread . . .” Isaiah 55:2. The Lord istalking to you and me, as the things spoken of in the BookIsaiah is directed to those at the end of this “LastDispensation” that prayerfully study them. Quote Link to comment
lumabean
I wonder what new regulations are in play now, and if they will eventually extend to the home gardener at some point?? I wish I had more money to allocate toward food storage at the moment. Praying we all have the things we need before the regulations and such lead to too much of an issue in the future.
