  1. I'm so sorry about your kitty. I believe we will see them in heaven, too, and they will be restored to health. I am still missing Miss Jane (who died Monday). I was weeding in her favorite garden patch last night where the daylillies and alyssum are and felt really bittersweet sad. I loved her and am glad we were "family" and wouldn't change that.
  2. We are having very mild weather today - low 70s. It's a bit foggy this morning so very comfortable. I've already been out to water the back. The bush beans are growing noticeably and the perrenials I planted are doing well. It's been real hard for DH to mow the lawn so I'm going to have to have him show me how to start the mower, etc. I would like to get rid of the lawn in the front completely and also along the side yard and reduce the back even further. If I do that I can get a push mower. I know how to make that go! It's nice if you can work from home. Lois: We used to camp, too, but we gave away the big old tent several years ago and I'm glad not to try to sleep in sleepingbags on the ground. I hope today goes well for everyone.
  3. It's afternoon here and a sunny 73 but feels hotter. We were in Central Oregon for the last four days which is warmer but much drier. It's been sort of wading through the getting back home stuff. Lots of laundry-have a quilt on the clothesline. I've been grocery shopping. Have a great afternoon/evening everyone.
  4. Thank you for the prayers. It really helps to feel I've got help carrying the load. Apparently BIL's situation resolved itself with out DH having to get involved. Son's pickup problem is being solved or may be as we "speak" and it was the hydraulics so less expensive. Sadly Miss Jane Marble died sometime during the night. She had moved out to the family room and looked peaceful. Still wrenches the heart. DH called the vet before work and put the box with Janie in it in the car so I could drive her to the vet. Needless to say I cried and could hardly tell the poor assistant why I was there but she figured it out and asked if I wanted her to bring her in from the car. So this is a bittersweet day - glad to be home, sad to lose a dear pet.
  5. Not sure where to put this but this seemed the best. We just got home from vacation late tonight. The telephone messages were beeping. One was that several days ago DH's disabled brother was running out/ran out of his meds and the care facility was having trouble refilling. There were no further messages so I hope they resolved it but we can't call til morning. Second DS#2, who was on vacation with us and we dropped off a couple of hours before, got in his pickup and is having problems. It means he'll lose work resolving this on Monday plus expense. Worst of all when I finally settled down to pet my cat she had gone off into the guestroom and looks terribly sick and there's nothing we can do til morning if she makes it. It's really hard to go to sleep after all that.
  6. It's towards the end of Wednesday but I'll be leaving early in the morning tomorrow so I'll post now. I cleaned house, picked up DH to come home for lunch, planted lavatera, butterfly bush, nasturciums. Still need to plant a hosta, galladiera (or something like that) and rue. I changed the bedding because DS#1 and DIL will be over to kitty sit. I sure hope they behave. Bobbi loves being outside when it's nice weather but I hope she isn't out at night because of the raccoons. This is really weird. We are going as the guests of my husband's golf buddy, his wife and mother. They have a vacation place about 7 or 8 hours from here. I barely know these people and I'm feeling a little nervous about what I'll be doing. The guy likes to do all the cooking and he and DH will be out playing golf part of the time. I guess we will live our lives around tee times. Yikes! Say a prayer for me that it all goes well. See ya Monday.
  7. It will be fun getting to know you. Hey, thanks for the breakfast, Snowmom.
  8. I'm up a bit earlier than usual. DH works today and I'm driving him to work because he is supposed to start driving the company van this week. Then I'm picking up DIL to go to a job interview. The fireworks show we went to last night was great fun. Both sons went with us. There were two live bands playing near us. So here is a new week. We are going on vacation later this week so I need to start getting ready to pack tomorrow.
  9. I am also feeling too lazy to get up to look. I'm reading The Cat Who Talked (or Ate) Turkey. I think my favorite Sharyn McCrumb was Rosewood Casket. Ghost Riders was intensely descriptive for most of the books but the ending got sort of vague. Spencer Arrowood's minor role in the book wasn't explained clearly enough for me. I like his character - I guess he is created after McCrumb's grandfather.
  10. Happy Independence Day . Despite that the visit was good. Our youngest son will be here some time this afternoon. I walked outside this morning and it started raining a bit. Saw a Rufous-sided Towhee as well as the usual Northern Flicker and Stellar Jays and then the little birds Sparrows, Chickadees and Kinglets. Snowmom: Hope you have a nice trip today. Mamafitz: Your cake sounds good.
  11. I have a green one and really love it. We planted it over 20 years ago and it's nice and full of leaves right down to the base. It gives us privacy from the across the street neighbor while it's in leaf. He has one but it has been pruned so it doesn't offer as much privacy. Both are great. You have such a rich growing area.
  12. Thank you for posting those, Snowmom. I'm guessing you could use Splenda instead of sugar.
  13. Good morning everyone . So I'm slowly going over that. I have a lot of time now but I get tired/frustrated trying to solve storage problems. Some day this will be solved. Joan: What a fun trip to snow in hot weather! Snowie: What great ribbons and things you entered in the fair.
  14. Second planting of carrots, radishes, beets; planted basil, bush beans, white pumpkin (for fun), zucchini.
  15. I've been "on a roll" and had a hard time getting here this morning. I started outside doing some planting, then came inside to clean both bathrooms thoroughly. The kitchen/dining room come next - the floor is swept, just needs a good mopping. This is DH's first day at work. He will be working with someone else for two weeks so he can see how they do things and no doubt learn new things - they are always coming up with new things in home health care. Last night was our first night on the new memory foam mattress topper and we are so pleased. We both woke up without back aches. Yesterday we went to the Sunday Market and I got nicotania, sunflowers (oops! need to go plant those.) and catmint. Both cats loved it and this morning when I went outside someone had chewed off the top and knocked the plant out of the pot. There are fireworks over the river so we will go with the kids down to the waterfront to watch them. There's always live music before.Since we're a smaller community there won't be any traffic jams!! Lois: What a great gift from grandpa. Mamafitz: Sounds like you had a great weekend even if you didn't find interesting property. Dee: Queen of the library!

    I am moving

Great! Looking forward to hearing all about it when you get back online.
  17. This is interesting, good, basic stuff. Thanks for posting it. Waiting for part II.
  18. I just finished Nightime Is My Time by Mary Higgins Clark. She sure has a way of keeping you on the edge of your chair. Today in church a visitor in front of us told us he was from Idaho and meeting someone he met on the internet. I thought "Uh, oh!" and then I thought "I've been reading too much MHC!! So next I'm reading the newest "The Cat Who" book by Lillian Jackson Braun (need something light). I think it's the cat who ate turkey. Also reading Families With Grace In Place. Jan
  19. Just got over a headache and a Claritin D finally did it. Snowie: Looking forward to those pictures and hearing more about the fair. Thank you for the hint about cheesecloth. I do have some of that and it will be easy. Off to get DH some shirts for this week. Have a great Saturday everyone.
  20. I've been out in the yard and noticed "somebody" (bird?) pulled up a couple of my tiny radishes and beets. So it's about time to do a second planting anyway. I think we need to screen over the tiny plants. The borage plant has a cluster of flowers that is starting to open. Three daylillies are blooming like mad. Have lots to do today. Just this, that and the other. Our highs for the weekend will be in the mid 60s. DH's last weekend before being a working man again (as if he hasn't been totally busy anyway). How's everybody else doing?
  21. It's sodium carbonate. Same family (but not same as) baking soda.
  22. Thank you, Hillbillee! I bought a flat when we were out of town and was wondering about this.
