  1. We just had our 1990 Honda Accord serviced yesterday (it keeps going and going with few problems). The fellow who bussed us to the mall (while we waited for the car to be done) said his wife had an Element and they really liked it with kids. He said something about you could haul stuff and hose it out? Our newer vehicle (DH's) is a Toyota Tacoma pickup which unfortunately takes more gas. If I'd have known I would have voted "no" even though it's fun to drive on the beach.
  2. That really surprises me. It would seem we would have heard he was so tall. I'm about half way through Nighttime Is My Time and it's really chilling.
  3. Good morning everyone . Nice to have DH home evenings. Diinmi: Have a great time at the cabin. What kind of fish?
  4. I am so excited! DH got the job and he starts on Monday. I can't tell you what a blessing this is.
  5. We are waiting with great anticipation. DH's interview was 1-1/2 hours long and started with the employer telling him he wanted to hire him two years before (when he worked for a competetor before "retiring"). So all I can say is there is a good possibility he will get it. If nothing else, it has been a blessing for DH to hear his reputation as a good worker is out there. He never heard that when he worked for the other guy.
  6. I used to make my own yogurt with powdered milk and some starter. Now I don't have to look up that recipe, I can use the one you posted. Thanks.
  7. They say our high will be 70 and party sunny but I haven't seen any of the sunny part yet. I will be surprised if we make 70. DH went to a job interview at 10 and he still isn't home an hour and a half later. This was sort of a surprise job thing that came up doing what he worked at his last 4 years of work which he really liked but with another company. I'm getting curious to see what happened. We're okay if he doesn't get it but it would help and I think he would be happy with more to do. Snowmom: I hope you can show us when the placemats are finished.
  8. How neat to see your face. I agree with Joan. Jan
  9. It is cooler today and that will be a nice relief to get things done.I think my weatherbug had a nervous breakdown. It's saying we'll be 82 today (same for the last 3 days) and our local television says 60s. I've been outside watering containers. There are three different daylillies blooming right now - the red with gold center, bright yellow and now a beautiful peach with diamond dusting. Looks like the borage plant blooms are soon to open and they are supposed to be a beautiful blue. I see radishes, carrots and beets popping up. I may pick the lavender today. Mommafitz: Six days does get tiresome. I used to do that when I worked in an office that computed the logging data. In the summer before the fire season we would work extra time and I was young and single then and it would get to me. Having one day off hardly felt like time off. Snowmom: You've been busy baking! Hope you have a nice visit with your sister while going with her to the doctor. Yes, where is everyone?
  10. Good morning I am so glad to see some fog this morning which means we're cooler this morning. We've been in the 80s several days during the past week which is unusual and hot for us. My cats are delighted this morning that there is no one here but DH, me and DS#2. I guess they aren't around kids and were horrified having two in the house. Also for some reason Bobbi was scared to death of Mom's cane. Mom's visit was great. We rented a wheelchair because her knee/hip are bothering her so much right now. She usually gets a shot that helps but this one only helped a few days. Sitting in the car for a long time makes it worse. Anyway, she has resisted assistance like canes, walkers but she has lost her balance and fallen quite a few times and she just plain gets worn out walking so when we got to the fair grounds DH popped this wheelchair out of the trunk and she looked so relieved. She was able to go with us everywhere and had a good time. We had frikadiler (sp - meatballs), rye bread & butter and red cabbage then for dessert we had rice pudding (riesengrot) with fruit soup on top. Wonderful! We saw a Norweigen Fjord horse. The highlight was a guy (about 6'6") who dresses up as a troll who came up to Mom and asked "Have you been kissed by a troll? No? Well you will be now" so he plants a kiss on her cheek and then gives her a big button that says "I've been kissed by a troll". She'll have fun telling her friends about that. Theyd: I do hope your DH comes home today. Snowmom: Have fun visiting with your son and family today. I am not so great about planning ahead (father's day) either. I ended up getting DH a teeshirt when I was in town Friday. Cat: Hope the air conditioner gets to working. Have a nice day everyone.
  11. It's been really hot the last two days.Yesterday was over 90. We really feel the heat when it's over 70 in this area. Today should be better. I've been getting ready for company and still have to finish up. With all the gardening and stuff going on I saved the kitchen and bathroom floors for this morning and it's so muggy just watering the garden got me sweating. Mom, her sister and her granddaughter should be here this afternoon. Yesterday when we came home from the grocery store one of our cats was all intent on something in the laundry room. We were sure it was the rat so DH set the trap in there last night and sure enough two small rats or mice gone forever. He is setting it again but these were smaller than the big rat we saw come from under the patio. DH set the trap under a wooden crate on the patio but then I saw a little squirrel on the suet and knew it could also get in there so I blocked the entry. I will be so glad when they are gone. Not a happy feeling thinking they are running around the house! I've gotta dash and finish up.
  12. Here I am rolling in late afternoon. Ah, cinnamon muffins for breakfast would have been great. I'm planning dinner (shepherds pie). This has been the craziest day with not much getting done. I've done some laundry but DH wanted to go to the library around 10 and I went along to try to renew a couple of books and find some new ones also. Then we went to see DS and DIL to drop them off at a camp site. They could camp for a cheaper rate in the biker/hiker area. Folks, I don't know what it is with this girl but she kept us waiting 45 minutes. We don't say anything but it happens every time. DH said next time we'll go half an hour late. What seemed like a short trip took a lot longer and we ended not having lunch until after 2 which doesn't set well with diabetes. I need to plan better when I know these things happen. Bleah! So regardless of that it's a beautiful day and headed to the 80s tomorrow which is HOT here. So, am I having company on Saturday and overnight? Yes and lots to do still. I will have to do double duty tomorrow. While we are still working in the yard (DH's top priority before company) a lot of dirt gets traipsed through the dining room so that will be the last to be cleaned. Ta dum, ta dum, ta dum (hear that galloping music?) I just got a call from my sister and she and Mom (without the mean, little dog) are coming Friday instead of Saturday so that means I need to get on my horse and be ready a day earlier.
  13. Hey, is there any of that blackberry cobbler left? I just saw that you made the cobbler. I'm diabetic, too, but cyber blackberry cobbler is okay, right?
  14. That sounds like a great morning. Your deer was very polite. We know the deer have been here when the roses are gone and the berries - just strawberry stems sticking up, the berries and leaves gone. They've never bothered the rhododendrons. Also they don't bother the lavender. We got our deer netting fence up a couple of weeks ago and just in time because we've seen two looking into our back yard. Glorious weather this afternoon here also.
  15. My husband's grandfather and some other relatives were in the honey business. I believe some of the relatives still are. In the "circle letter" family members send around we found something the grandfather wrote in the 1950s about how he got interested in beekeeping as a boy. I'll have to see if I can find it.
  16. Good morning everyone With all you gals brought I am stuffed! I do have some special coffee I make. After two cups of black coffee I fill a big mug half full of milk, Splenda and a good pinch of Vietnamese cinnamon, heat it and then top it off with coffee. Our youngest son got here yesterday afternoon but was off with our oldest son until after we went to bed so we will be seeing him shortly. He usually goes to the Sunday Market with me. We start planting our raised bed gardens today. My husband is incredible for 64 years old. He got this sod cutter machine that could rattle all the teeth out of your mouth and made a path from the patio to the shed and cleared where the gardens are, then he hauled all this gravel himself for the path, built the beds and hauled the topsoil himself. He had a desk job for most of his life but his last one (about 2 years) was for home health care supplies and he learned to carry and set up oxygen tanks from the small to the huge and also things up to hospital beds. So amazingly in recent years he's really used his muscles. Anyway I'm so proud of him. Mamafitz: Those raspberries sure sound good. Glad that headache left. Snowmom: You've been busy. I'll bet the fair will be great fun even with short notice.
  17. I'm glad you told us. I have one I was sure had bit the dust but I'll give it another chance. I think I'm going to move my rose bushes next year.
  18. I forgot a bag of bird seed out on the patio last night and this morning it's very clear there's a rat running back and forth from the bag to the corner of the patio where it has a hole in my flower bed that runs under the patio. I suspect it is also going under the house and possibly into the laundry room where we keep the bird supplies and pet food.
  19. I can't believe I'm the first one here today and it's past lunch time. We've been to the grocery store and to the place where you can get rock or compost or topsoil. We picked up topsoil that is mixed with compost and sand to put in our raised beds. Then at last to plant! Our youngest son will be here later today. Yesterday as I sat at the computer I saw a young doe walking through the herb garden on the side of the driveway. They haven't bothered any of the herbs I've planted so far but she was nosing around the empty bird feeders (empty because they've been attracting annoying pigeons)and then she continued across the front and found a few weeds to eat. How's everyone else doing?
  20. Bless your heart, Caveman! I learn new things every day.
  21. I think this is the place to put this. In our back yard we have a concrete patio with a dahlia garden behind the bedroom wing. We noticed odd holes in the dahlia bed but they didn't seem to bother the dahlias. Then there is one at the corner of the concrete of the patio. I kept filling it up with dirt and it keeps reappearing. DS#1 thinks it might be a rat. Our cat caught one. Also our other cat likes to sit in the laundry room and listen intently (this is near that area). So if I have a rat or mice do you think if I got rat poison and pushed it under that hole by the patio it would take care of them? Any other ideas what would be under the patio making this hole? It doesn't look like mole hills.
  22. I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest where the mouth of the mighty Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean - Astoria, Oregon.
  23. Thank God it wasn't worse. Praying for his healing and your finances.
