  1. With fall/winter just around the corner this is a good topic to bring up again. Thank heavens I'm not working in that place any longer. It was said all staff or students arriving there got the "TP (name of the place) Crud". I believe fluids - all of the above mentioned - and rest is essential. Jan
  2. Good for him! The garbage can lid would be just the kind of depth birds need. Jan
  3. Hoppin' in here late afternoon. You girls are sure funny today. I love the chit chat. Today I used some of that shower/tile cleaner with bleach and ruined one of my towels. I put it on the floor to catch the shower curtain drips and didn't spray near the edge but it got it anyway. Drat! They finished up on the roofing nextdoor today and I'm glad. Can't go in your own back yard without the guys oggling even an old gal like me! Good grief! We just had our fifth case of West Nile Virus here. The first was within the week. I heard it effects the crows and jays. I love our stellar jays and hope they remain safe. DH and I are trying to come up with a plan to build some trellises this weekend. One is for the back yard near the patio where I want to plant some clematis. Eventually we found a picture of one that is more like an arbor with lattice on both sides and a seat in the middle. That would look so cool and DH likes it, too. I can't believe we're at the weekend already! I used to watch Days of Our Lives, Another World and Texas. Don't watch them now. I watch Dr. Phil sometimes. I'm always amazed people are willing to go on there and tell the world about their problems. Wonder what their coworkers, neighbors and relatives think. Have a great Friday evening.
  4. I'm so sorry about your cat. We live on a horrible street for pets being hit. We're on a hill and cars go too fast so you don't know they are coming until they are right there. Bobbi used to cross the street a lot (she also knows how to stay away from raccoons) but now she is content to stay in our yard or our next door neighbors. She wouldn't even go outside while they did the roofing next door the past two days. Hope your dd is able to deal with this loss.
  5. Can we have foot rests with those adirondack chairs so we can put our feet up?
  6. No, I don't have any audio books. I used to love listening to my grandmother's "talking books for the blind" and an aunt I used to spend summers with qualified for those also - in those days they were in record form. Now I'm sure they are tapes or maybe even CDs. My aunts would get done with their household chores and sit down in the afternoon to listen to a story. I remember "reading" Agatha Christie and Pearl Buck in particular and DH remembers listening to Seven Days In May on my aunt's records. They had one grumpy mailman who really resented having to pick up the containers. I just started The Children's Hour by Marge Willett. I really enjoyed her two previous books. Mare, I have The Cereal Murders that I got at a garage sale or something but haven't read yet. I'll have to put it on my soon list.
  7. Good morning everyone I'm slow moving this morning because I woke up with a headache. Headache part is gone but waiting for the yucky feeling to pass. DH and I went to see Manchurian Candidate last night which was really good. This morning I wondered why Bobbi (our little short tail cat) came right back in the house - turns out they are roofing next door and she must not like the people/noise. I think they were removing shingles. That house is about the same age as ours and it's been 10 years now that we had to remove shingles because there were just too many courses on there. A lot of people in this area are getting those metal roofs. I don't like the way they look, but if they last a long, long time maybe it's a good deal. There's a neat old two story barn style house across and down two houses and they put that roof on and somehow it doesn't look at nice. I'm decluttering today. Going through books and stuff. Have a good day everyone.
  8. Glad to have you join us on the porch.
  9. I received postcards from Joan and Snowmom. What fun.
  10. Good morning everyone in.
  11. Not really but I have DH tell me when Michael Phelps is competing so I can watch him. We were watching some of the Monk marathon last night and flipping over to the Olympics. Curious that the women's volleyball wear skimpy little costumes.Hmmmm. Do the men wear bikini short things? Doubt it. It bothers me that some of the young girls look absolutely anorexic.
  12. Good morning everyone Praying all goes well at your checkup. Theyd: Yep, D doesn't always stand for Darling. Unikemom: Hurray for the peaches. I can just about smell them! Mmmmmmm. Have a great Monday everyone.
  13. Great pictures, Lois! Cat, what makes you think the exchange would improve things I say after listening to a gripey person because we stopped at the Sunday Market on our way home from church and whine, I don't want to be here, whine- you always like to shop, whine..... So now he is happy sitting in the other room in front of the television. Hrrrmph!
  14. In a glass in the medicine cabinet. DH keeps his in the other bathroom cabinet. I like Lois's idea. It always seems to me unsanitary just standing there in the glass. Jan
  15. I received a postcard of the wonderful courthouse in Lancaster, SC from SC Mary.

    My trip

How fun to see that part of the country. The cabins remind me of the ones I first went to a retreat at. Thanks for sharing.
  17. I love the cobbler style apron, too. Golly, I wear mine when I cook and just leave it on when I go out in the garden. Mine has pockets that are handy and it fastens at the back of the neck with velcro. I've been thinking I surely could make one of these if I ever figure out my sewing machine
  18. Our weather has been just very comfortable for awhile now. I've been to the grocery store to beat the crowds.
  19. I got a beautiful card made by and from Lois. Thank you, Lois.
  20. One thought was "It's really easy to garden there - all you need is a toothpick, spoon and tweezers?!" Looks like you are starting seeds in styrofoam cups? Your garden is beautiful.
  21. It's good to hear a good report on Fran.
  22. home. Sounds like a fun trip and I'm sure you'll tell us more. It's always soooo good to get home.
