  1. Littlesister, maybe he isn't lazy. It sounds like he has ADHD or what ever the initials are. Sounds like he can't concentrate on reading and goes blank. Maybe he needs a "study buddy" to help him stay focused. In the end...it might not be his fault. It kills me to say that because I'm angry for your sake. And I'm tired of you being used by your grand kids. And it's easy to say he is lazy. I know, I've thought it too. But in reality, maybe he really wants to but just can't. Maybe he is lazy. And maybe he isn't. I'm feeling generous in my opinions today.
  2. OMG. I canned 24 'half pints' of sauerkraut (not homemade) today too! And I don't want to disturb the boxing order either. 24 slots...24 jars. Period.
  3. I remember him talking about his goals too. They were good ones. Lip service? One thing about the military though. You don't choose which career path you want to go in. They place you where they want to use you according to your ability. Which is the reason for the testing. You learn what they tell you to learn. And they will promise you the moon until you enlist. Recruiter promised DH a career path in Poli Sci. when he enlisted in the Air Force. He tested out to be a Chinese linguist for four long years. Ni Hao. LOL. Sorry, but if he can't pass the basic tests (they don't care why) he isn't going to be a marine biologist. I wouldn't necessarily tell him that though. He could use that as another excuse to not go in. I'm sure you are passed exasperated with him. He has yet to adult.
  4. We had rain most of the day so I got the bills paid up to date. I called the yard company and they are coming out Friday to have a look see. I just want the basics to get something in front of the house other than weeds. Even if its just mulch. It will really help the appearance 100%. Curb appeal is in the minus zero as it is. The construction company called. It's time to pay the piper. We are still missing some money from State Farm. She is going to contact them herself. I'm pretty sure they aren't going to pay any more. I did reassure her that I know I owe her money and that I will pay her because they did the work and deserve to be paid. I'll borrow from D-ex if I have to. He already told me I could. I'll pay him back when I sell the house. That's way out there Plan B. But better than a lien on the house. I spent the morning canning some store bought sauerkraut. It makes my son vomit. Literally. He orders reuben's with no sauerkraut. LOL. No one in my family will touch it but me. And I have to really limit it due to the high salt content. Every once in a blue moon I want some. I canned it in the little squatty half pint jars. Just enough for a couple of hot dogs or reubens for me. Or out of the jar. They were acidic enough to water bath them. I think they were a 3. I got 2 cases. 24 little jars. Then I spent a couple of hours in the spare bedroom going through more stuff. What a mess. I have a circular path in there now. My goat path. My limit is about 2 hours a day because of back pain, but mostly because after about 2 hours I start just walking around or staring at stuff. Kinda like when you are stuck on a puzzle and walk away and come back and see the answer. I got two bags of trash and 4 bags to donate. I'm almost (not quite) ready to have someone come in and just pack it all up and put it in the garage. But why spend all that money and just haul junk, that I may not want to another house only to get rid of it. I'm sick of stuff. Maybe I'm just lazy. The weather is just starting to warm up here and I did notice it's getting warmer upstairs. Gonna need a fan for sleeping up here soon. I'll be so glad to get into one story living.
  5. Doesn't sound like he wants to go. At least not bad enough. Wasn't he going to go in with a couple of other people last year and rent an apartment again? Is there a limit on how many times you can fail the test before they are no longer interested? I've been hearing the armed forces are begging for recruits right now.
  6. I would you travel like that. Greece is breathtakingly beautiful. All blue and white. That was supposed to read" I would like to travel like that." I didn't catch it until the next day. Sheeesh.
  7. I agree Necie. I sort of feel the same way about organic. I will buy it to try to hedge my bet, but I don't really believe anything is truly organic. There are toxins in the air, the water and the soil and over spray from the next farm. It is in the fruits/veggies, not just on it. You can't wash it off. Especially Apeel. And people lie. Lies and Deception. Good luck going non-GMO. About everything a manufacturer uses has something 'engineered' in it. If it has corn or soy in it (what doesn't) it is bioengineered. Check out the Cheerios debacle. Made in America with oats full of a banned pesticide. But the pesticide is legal in other countries where Quaker sourced their oats. Don't kid yourself about home canning and knowing what you put in the jar. You might know the ingredients but not how and where they were grown. Even your home grown is probably laden with toxins. And how safe are our spices. Read all the recalls lately? Cinnamon, turmeric and basil. I honestly don't think there is any clean eating. "Cleaner" for the time being maybe, but not clean.
  8. Prayers for our family and friends in Oklahoma and Nebraska and surrounding areas for the tornadoes that hit yesterday. I couldn't believe some of the pictures I saw. Heart breaking.
  9. Happy Birthday MR. Becca-Anne. Thanks for the link @Midnightmom I put it in my wish list. I don't mind if she gets a kick back. It costs me nothing and I do enjoy her channel. I'm going to seriously start canning meat soon. I have plenty of veggies now. I would like some pints of potatoes but might have to wait til I get to Indy where I can use my kitchen stool. I don't know how long I can stand at my kitchen sink peeling potatoes here. And I have no home canned meat. They finally got all of my BP's meds in. When I came home from picking them up, there was a bird looking in my window. Thank God it wasn't a woodpecker! I don't know what it was. At first glance I thought it was a baby robin because it had a red breast. But when it turned its head I saw that the head was blue. Really pretty little bird. I got a picture but...still can't post. When ever I get computer/internet synchronized, look out for pictures. It was a male Eastern Bluebird. So pretty.
  10. @Midnightmom. What is that little countertop stove Rose Red uses? That looks pretty nice and convenient. It might be for convection pans though. I have a small Coleman stove that I got when K-Mart went out of business. I don't remember what kind of fuel it uses now. I never messed with it. I had some of those little green canisters where you can refill them with propane. They all lost their propane. BTW, GS has a pet snake. Lionel. I act like I'm not afraid of it. But I am.
  11. Funny you mentioned eagles. I've been watching the live cam of a pair of eagles in Iowa. I've followed the eggs hatching up until now. The two babies are fascinating to watch. They have weathered wind storms, rain and hail and snow storms. I can't tell the mom from the dad but both have been very good parents. You can keep the snake though. Shudder.
  12. Thanks for the info. I need to do better about alternative food cooking or heating up. Made in China. Pfft, what isn't. At this point I'm glad just to be able to get something I need. Or can afford.
  13. My Rx Vitamin D-3 is 5,000 units and is a powdered capsule form.
  14. I haven't had any problems getting on but yesterday it was very slow. I gave up a few times and came back and it was fine. I've had no issues with it today. On the other hand, I come here by clicking on a link in my favorites that I have bookmarked on the phone. And I never sign out.
  15. @Mt_Rider Dang, sorry you still aren't feeling well. Get better soon. You have places to go and people to see. Don't worry too much about power outages. Now that you have your power bank, the power should stay on. Kinda like if you want rain, go wash your car. Or now that I have an ample supply of meds, I haven't had a UTI. Not that I'm hoping for one. Just saying... The alcohol stove sounds very interesting to me. I'd like more details, when you feel better.
  16. @Littlesister Pace yourself with that knee and shoulder. Don't want another flair up or be set back.
  17. I couldn't stand it any longer so I went back to Meijers with my camera tonight. I'll post the sign I saw in the Are You Really Ready forum. I still can't post a picture but I'll write it down. @themartianchick Hope you feel better soon. Nice of hubby to share...not. Sorry about the groundhogs! Also sorry that I had to chuckle a little bit though. My GS just learned the how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck wood chuck wood, tongue twister.
  18. One on my heart meds finally came in today. The other new one is still on back order. I ran over to Meijers while I was out. There is a sign on the door talking about the shortages. Of course I didn't have my phone with me to take a picture. There were quite a lot of items and not all food related. I do remember Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing. Liquid Plumr, Clorox and a few more. If I remember, I'll go back tomorrow and take a picture of the sign.
  19. @snapshotmiki I have no idea why it didn't record. The green light was always flashing every 5 seconds like it was working. I did everything like I was supposed to. I only took it off an hour or so at night to put it on the charger while I took a bath/shower. You can't get it wet. I'm giving it one more chance. Glad you are getting help with your outdoor chores! Hope your DH is doing better with his antibiotics.
  20. Hope your GS passes his test!
  21. @Mt_Rider I hope you feel better soon! Light headed and a tad nauseous is how I feel when my B.P. drops too. I told the doctor today that I say I get dizzy but that isn't really the case. The room doesn't spin etc. My first symptom is I start getting hot. Really really hot. Then sweaty around my hair line. Then I know I had better hit the floor before I pass out. @Becca_Anne A taxi would cost way too much from my town to downtown Cleveland. I did consider Uber but the hospital doesn't recommend one because of the procedure. It's over an hour long with an IV involved. I'm not sure but there could be some sedation. I'm not sure about that. But if I become compromised in any way, they wouldn't approve an Uber. Their reasoning is I could pass out and be taken advantage of by an Uber driver. Like being assaulted or robbed. Actually, I really don't think they would do the test if I didn't have a ride with me. The doctor mentioned something about a bus the clinic provides but she was sure it didn't come out as far as my town. However, I suppose I could drive as far as the clinic I go to and catch a ride from the there? Maybe. I'll see when social services contacts me. BTW, I'm not sure why it's called a 'clinic'. It's really a very big medical building with lots of professional doctors and all kinds of testing procedures. I get my labs, mammogram and they have a pharmacy and walk in clinic too.
  22. I'll find something. But all I have is this tiny phone.
  23. Brat. Jeepers doing her fishy exercises =>followed by =>
  24. I had my cardiologist appointment today. I flat lined the heart monitor. LOL. After wearing it for a month it showed absolutely nothing. Not even a pulse. She asked me if I'd consider wearing it for another week. I told her I'd give it two weeks. I'd like to get some kind of a reading. She is sure I have POTS. Everyone is sure of that. She thinks it is imperative that I have the tilt table test. I told her I was willing but I have no transportation to and from downtown Cleveland. She said she'd try to hook me up with a senior citizens advocate. Whatever. I was going to try to do it in Indiana where DIL could take me. I'll try here if I can though. Hospitals are a lot better over here. If they can...they can. Plan B is Indiana. She also said to really push the liquids and that I should try compression socks. I just bought a bunch of loose diabetic socks so my legs wouldn't be restricted. But I'll try the compression socks when I'm going to be upright for an extended period of time like canning and shopping. Also exercises. Nothing upright but to do them sitting down or on the floor. Figures now that I don't have a TV or DVD player. Suppose I'll just get down there and flop around some. I really used to like my Sweatin' To The Oldies and I miss doing those. Nice music and not too strenuous. I have to check back in with them in two weeks. She also changed my meds. I went over today to pick them up and they didn't have one available. They said hopefully they will have it tomorrow. It's back ordered. Anyway, she discontinued one and added two more. Pharmacy had a notice that because of the new law in Ohio, the pharmacy will be closed from 1:30 til 2:00. I think it has to do with always having two pharmacists out front and on duty at all times during lunch time. They always did any way. I'm glad I'm going to try to get this straightened out but I fear by the time I can see the doctors and follow ups, I'll be out of the area and scrambling to find someone new in Indy. Aside from the monitor showing nothing, the echocardiogram was pretty good. Mostly a little thickening of the heart muscle but not dangerously so. I need another one in two years. I can do that. BTW Mt. Rider, you asked about the sun raising vitamin D levels. It didn't have any bearing on it. Mine was the same as before I was in a hotel doing yard work, while in the hotel and now out of the hotel. In other words, being in the sun verses not being in the sun (hotel) didn't change anything. And I was in the sun some here at the house and a lot in Indiana.
