  1. Countrymomma, just think, now while it is cold and bad outside, you can sit in the house in front of the fire and have and enlightening evening on the net in MrsS. what a better way to spend the evening, here have a nice warm glad to have you here..
  2. well my squash didn't do flip this summer and my green beans are coming just very slowly, the ground here just will not grow food, For plants it does fine, but when it comes to beans and squash it isn't worth a flitter. I have never a had trouble growing beans and squash until I moved here..... So far I have put up a ton of crabapple jelly and blackberry jam and strawberry jam, 2 quarts of pinto beans with seasoning, 2 quarts of blackeye peas with seasoning, 15 quarts of squash, 15 quarts of green beans, 8 quarts of peaches.
  3. We have gotten to where we go to Ryan's at least once a month for dinner. Because of their shrimp and steak... All five us get the buffet, but the kicker is, it is all you can eat, adn on the kids the price goes by age, kids under 5 eat free, 5 to 9 eat for $3.00, and 10 years and up eat for $4.99 and then it goes to adult prices. All five of us ate for $30.00 last night, we had the awfulest pile of shrimp, chicken and and bread I have ever seen. It is a wonder dh and kids aren't ill from eating so much.....
  4. Hillbillie, I too am a believer in the store savings cards. If you know what you are doing and are careful you can really make a huge savings using them. Last year I saved $1500.00 on my grocery bill, just by using the store card and coupons....
  5. Sorry about Patches. Hope the kids will be ok. It is hard dealing with the loss of a family friend, we just went through ourselves, back in July when we lost our cat.
  6. We started out having a really pretty Saturday, but it is now raining (really heavy). I have spent the day cleaning my kitchen... I have taken one room each day, since Thursday, tore it apart and cleaned it. Started with the kids room, and then mine, Now today was the kitchen..Pulled out the stove and fridge and swept and scrubbed behind them. Pulled everything out of the cabinets, scrubbed them.Rearranged everything, made list of things needed. Now that I got it all cleaned and looking good again, I had to stop and cook supper. How about a big plate of Pork chops, green beans, mashed potatoes, corn bread, for those who don';t care for cornbread, there was bread and butter, with a big hunk of onion and tomato, and a tall glass of iced tea....
  7. mommyof5,good to see you posting again, had seen anything from you in a while, I truly enjoy your posts....Yeah, it looks as if we will be having a rough time this winter. But hey, due to good ole preparedness I'm ready!!!!!!!!
  8. As the world turns is the only soap I like, my mom raised me watching that show. Otherwise it is either Dora the explorer or Blues Clues or CNN or weatherchannel or Joyce Myers ministry....... I figure, I do not drink, or smoke, so I have got to have some kind of vice in this world. So it might as well be a soap opera
  9. when we go on a road trip, I always pack each child a lunch box, with 2 drinks (1 bottle water, 1 drink of their choice),a sandwich of their choice, chips, peanut butter and crackers, a snack cake or piece of candy. We always stop to eat breakfast at Denny's (that is a have too). When we get to our destination, we also check into a motel that has a full kitche (extended stays)...For $50. we have all the amenities of other motels, plus a full kitchen with all cookware and dinnerware. I always pack little spice bottles of seasonings that we use most often, I plan a menu before we leave, and any ingredients that I have already on hand I pack and take with us(that doesn't need refrigeration). Then the other things I pick up at a store once we have settled in our room. This way, we eat when we want, we eat what we want, no big restaurant bills. It just makes for a much more relaxing vacation.. and it really does save on your vacation funds. Usually we would spend around $300 on meals (for 5 people) for 4 days. Not anymore, we are down to around $125 now...that is just more money to play with.....
  10. That's not boring, that's TIME TO WATCH OUR SOAPS!!!!!! I try to get everything done by two so I can watch "as the world turns", but only get to watch 30 minutes of it, because I have to leave at 2:30 to pick up kids at school.....

  12. I keep my tooth brushes in a mason jar on the bathroom sink...I like to use mason jars as much as possible in decorating rooms. They add the country flair...

  19. I am absolutely worn out. I have been working in my boys bedroom since about 8:00 am. I tore everything out of their closet, went through all their old clothes and books and toys, threw all broken, torn items away, placed other items in another bag will take the good stuff to the goodwill this evening. I ended up with (4) 30 gallon bags full of stuff, coming out of their room. I vacuumed the closet out and all the corners and trimming in the closet, Then vacuumed every square inch of the bedroom. Washed all the bedding, and got it back on. Rehung their wall posters, cleaned the ceiling fan, and moved the furniture around. I made them an art center, in their room. I put all their color books, story books, and crayons and rulers etc, on an old table that has been out in the garage forever. and all their art paper. It is low to the ground so the baby can reach it. They also have a desk in their room for their homework, I cleaned it from top to bottom and vacuumed out the drawers.... I am absolutely pooped. I just got finished with that room, and here it is 2:15 pm. The rest of the house is still a mess. But I am taking a room each day, and just tearing it apart from top to bottom and cleaning it and dejunking. Until I have the whole house done....
  20. Where has this week gone to? I cannot believe it is already Thursday.... Well my bingo game last night was a bust. Did not come anywhere near a winning card. But we still had a good time. I am doing the
  21. If you have a really good steam machine, it only takes a couple of hours for the mattress to dry. The machine sucks all the water back out.....You can rent the machines at many stores or you can also have a professional do it.....and there has been a time or two where, I would drag the mattresses out and let them dry in the sunshine......If they don't happen to dry, then off to a motel for the night, or we camp out in the living room. My husband smokes, and I am real particular about my home smelling of stale cigarette smoke, and even though people bath on a daily basis, at night while sleeping people sweat, and it can leave a lingering odor in your mattress and makes the whole room smell stale. ( This is even with a mattress pad and sheets on the mattress and the sheets changed three times a week. I can't take it, I have a really sensitive nose when it comes to dirty odors.(you have to take into account this is the room of three small boys and their smelly-gassy ALSO WHEN GETTING READY TO CLOSE UP FOR THE WINTER. IF YOU HAVE CENTRAL HEATING AND AIR. TAKE YOUR VACUUM CLEANER AND TAKE THE FACE OFF OF YOUR UNIT (INSIDE THE HOUSE) VACUUM OUT ALL THE STANDING DUST AND COBWEBS, AND MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE YOUR FILTER. THIS HELPS YOUR SYSTEM TO OPERATE AT ITS BEST. ALSO BEFORE IT GETS TO COLD OUTSIDE TO OPEN UP YOUR HOUSE, AND BEFORE YOU DO ALL OF YOUR CLEANING FOR THE HOUSE CLOSING. TURN YOUR HEATER ON AND LET IT BURN OFF ANY DUST. YOU KNOW THAT SMELL YOU GET WHEN YOU FIRST TURN THE FURNACE ON FOR THE YEAR. DO IT NOW WHILE YOU CAN OPEN UP THE HOUSE, THIS WAY THE SMELL OF THAT OLD DUST ISN'T KEPT LINGERING IN YOUR HOUSE.....
  22. yeah once a year, usually around september, I steam clean everything possible. mattress can take on smells and I can't stand it. Plus , my second ds has allergies, and this helps to keep allergens down in his room......
