  1. My Mom used to make dressing every year for Thanksgiving as does most everyone else. What I remember her putting in it was simply this

    Dried Bread broken into pieces

Eggs, poulty seasoning, celery and onion that had been sauted together and broth to moisten it. I don't remember the amounts. Does anyone else have a recipe like this? Would you mind sharing it with me?

  2. Spider do you have a big DOG??? When you leave your house at 530 is anyone else in the house? I am afraid that that would freak me out a lot!!

It's already 55 here.. Kids are up and getting ready for the bus. I don't have to go in until 10:30 today! I went to the market last night and they had miracle whip on sale for 1.29 a jar! I got 6.. It's usually over 3 dollars a jar here. I also bought some of those new pie crust that are rolled from Pillsbury.. They were 1.69.. I was pretty excited about that. Is everyone mentally prepared for Thanksgiving now? How about that mad Christmas dash the day after??

  3. Well leave it to MrsS to slap me into reality.. I have read everyone's posts and here's my take.

I am going to enjoy being with people I love this Holiday season and even some strangers and get to know them better. Someday I may be old and alone and think back and tell myself I shouldn't have been such a snot and tried to make the most of it when I could. My life hasn't stopped just because my Mom's has.. Time to live for today and stop living in the past, and praise God for the days I have on this earth to enjoy my kids while their still young and living at home. So later on when I have all my grandbabies in this world Lord willing they will all come over to Grandma and Grandpa's for Thanksgiving and I can make happy memories for them!!!! Thanks for opening my eyes and heart..

  4. [quote Why is it that we so long for the *ideal* and always feel like we're "settling" for less???

Somehow, I think many of us never quite get over the longing for what we THINK the holidays should be. There's a child longing for a movie-set-perfect holiday inside of every adult.

I know there is in me. And I am always sad because I can't do it for my children, either.

  5. Since Mom died and Dad remarried and moved 12 hours away, even though there are 12 of us kids still living with the yours mine and ours thing going on.. I don't spend Thanksgiving with any of them. With that much family you wouldn't think that a person would be lonely.. But it is indeed. We spend Thanksgiving with my dh's family. And this year we are spending it with Dh's brothers new wife and her parents. Whom I have only met at the wedding.. DREAD isn't the word... I don't know these people.. And rumor has it it's going to be a large get together.. Not something this small town country girl wants to really leave the comforts of her peaceful, cozy home for. But for the sake of my dh and his family I am going to keep my miserable mouth closed and go with the flow. This holiday season Buttercup isn't cooking for Thanksgiving.. I don't know how to do that. My whole married life of 15 years I have fixed most of the meal.. These people are quiche people.. I pray that I will be able to over come my fear of being inferior and just enjoy the day.

For Christmas we go to my oldest sisters where 2 or three of my sisters and their kids will be there and we all bring food and watch movies and have a good time together. Then I fix the meal Christmas Day and my inlaws come to our house. We sit around the fire after we eat and open presents and have a nice time. I am sure I am making a mountain out of a molehill on this Thanksgiving and by next year it will just be a memory! I hope you all are blessed this Thanksgiving with your family and friends and memories!

    Hugs and Prayers,

    Dawn

  6. Welcome to MrsS aboutnuts.. Do you raise animals on your farm? Or is it mostly farm ground?

Someone will be along in a while with muffins and some raspberry tea. why don't you sit a spell on the porch with us and tell us more?

  7. Spider what a fun time you have planned with the "kids".. You sound like a pretty cool Aunt!

Last day of the work week for me! Yeah! What's everyone got planned for this weekend? Probably another wood cutting weekend here..

Wow Unike, girl you need a bubble bath and a good book.. So what if the house doesn't get picked up today? Take a break.. Go lay down on the couch before dh does and just take a nap.. This is the day we get that wonderful 2 day paycheck! It's gonna really stink for a week around here with no money. But next week we will be ok again.. It's just gonna take a couple of weeks to catch things back up now.. Taxes are due.. I hope we can get them paid before too long. Oh well.. What's that saying Que Sara Sara?

  8. We have a small electric oil filled radiator that we use encase of emergencies and before it gets cold enough to start the furnace. We are taking our 15 pass. van so the kids will have their own seats.. The big kids will probably take their cd players along and their pillows so they can entertain themselves. Grandma will sit with Jojo and they will probably read and color or play games. I will sit in the back also as it usually the "rule" the men drive and sit together up front so they can "talk". I will bring my pillow and a good book! I am sure we won't have any problems along the way.

Sis will probably have to work on Friday, which is fine too and just as well. I guess me and my new sister in law could maybe go up around their house somewhere. I mean come on walmart is everywhere not just here. Right? I am looking towards the positive.. We will do something fun at our house on Saturday, have a big meal and decorate for Christmas.. Maybe Sis and her family can come over then. I will just save the turkey for Christmas..

  9. Have any of you ever raised these miniture cows before? Or known anyone who has? I hear the can be used to both milk and meat.. They only stand 44 inches tall and are only 1000 pounds.. You only get 400 pound of meat rather than 800 . But their milk is easier to digest and the cream seperates better.. Anyone else have any info?

  10. I am a little unhappy this evening. I have been informed that this year we are going to spend the first half of Thanksgiving Day riding in a car for 5 hours with my kids and inlaws. BIL is now married so we must go and visit with them. I have been told that BIL's inlaws are "hosting" Thanksgiving.. And we won't be coming home until sometime Friday evening..

Selfish me.. I wanted to stay home, and have an old fashioned Thanksgiving with my dh and children. With our fresh turkey we raised cooked in the wood cookstove. I wanted to play games with our kids and eat and eat.. Notice all the "I's".. UGH... DH says we can do it on Saturday.. Well bull butter... My sister and I always go shopping at 5am the day after Thanksgiving.. It's tradition. We have been doing it for 12 years. That's been nixed now. We always decorate our home for Christmas after I get home from shopping with Sis.. That's been nixed too.

I know things change. I know I am venting and sounding like a spoiled brat. But I find the prospects of spending 5 hours one way in one vehicle with my children and inlaws incredibly STRESSFUL...To go spend the Holiday in a small town near Chicago?? Not out in the country on our small homestead, keeping our fires burning.. Hope it's not freezing out.. There won't be any heat in the house for 48 hours! OK shew I am sorry.. But I had to tell someone.. Telling myself to get over my selfishness and make the best of it.. I guess I should see the blessing in the fact that I don't have to COOK! ?? Thanks for letting me vent..

  11. Evenin to ya'll. Well gee I made my lunch deliveries in the rain today. Such a lucky lucky girl! Dh will be home in about 15 minutes. And dinner tonight is sitting here waiting. I made use of the cookstove doublefold as it heated the house and made supper tonight. I fixed meatloaf, au grautin potatoes, greenbean casserole, and noodles.. For dessert we are having a caramel cake with caramel icing.. thanks to Duncan Hines.. The children are upstairs quietly watching tv.. So it's a bit peaceful.

On a different note.. I have been without a cigarette in 24 hours. But I want one in the worst way. My poor family.. I am trying to quit plus it's my "time" of the month! UGH..

Weather wise it's really windy out tonight.. Sounds of the howling winds make me cold. It's rained all day long and our temp is now at 40.. Supposed to be freezing tonight. Lots of water everywhere and freezing temps are not a good combo around here. Pretty yes, but dangerous. I hope everyone enjoyed Veterans Day with the children home.

Time to set the table......Hope you all have a glorious night.
