  1. Anyone here affected by the fires in Scottsdale or the newly erupted ones in Phoenix? If so, were you "prepared" for action due to what you've learned here at MrsS? Stay safe!
  2. Check out this vid Our Outdoor Canning Station Inexpensive and utilitarian, our outdoor canning station does the job we need it to do for all the canning we do. It is off grid, so it works for us as long as we have some propane. Rose Red Homestead - https://www.youtube.com/@RoseRedHomestead
  3. In what world do they think this is possible since the contractor won't start working w/o $50K in the bank??? Under these conditions there won't be anything to inpect! (I'm joining your rant. ) ETA: Read the rest of this thread since I posted this reply and am very happy to hear that your contractor is being a very reasonable guy in starting the project with only most of the money being released. (Wagons ho!)
  4. The Biggest Storms Of The Summer So Far Are Coming... Latest from Brian Hall June 24, 2023 In this video we are talking about a multi day severe weather outbreak in the eastern US.
  5. Despite the message on the roof I'll bet'cha the spiders survived!!!!
  6. .......... how does your garden grow??? Once this "tree" is finished you never have to worry about watering it, pruning it, or trying to keep it "alive." Too bad the leaves don't provide any shade though.
  7. Came across some info a few weeks ago. If you like to use herbal/natural remedies D-Mannose is the part of cranberries that is supposed to help yeast infections. You may need the Cipro to knock this one down, but perhaps the D-Mannose will help keep future outbreaks from happening. You should check into it.
  8. It's not the seed, silly. It's the flowers.
  9. Hope you have a wonderful day!
  10. Comment from my dehydrating group on how to make "zucchinni flour:"
  11. I don't know why the running joke is that zucchinni is so prolific that it will take over your garden. I planted several zukes last year and only harvested ONE tiny little veg. What I didn't know is that zucchinni plants have BOTH male and female flowers. If the pollen doesn't get to the stamen there ain't no babies! This means you have to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies or pollinate the flowers yourself - with a paint brush or a Q-tip, for example. I wish you success.
  12. Once upon a time, when Walmart had those boxes of prints, I purchased two that I absolutely loved. They are both landscape scenes, but the leaves on the trees look like they've grown outside of the "painted" area and onto the matt (which is actually a part of the print). I took them to Michael's (or was it a local mom&pop business???) to get framed. It was so much fun choosing the matt that I wanted and picking a beautiful frame from the multitudes of selections that were available. I LOVE those pictures, but sadly, when I move into this new apartment I was not able to re-hang them so they are sitting in a box in my closet. I don't think any of my children will want to inherit them, which is quite sad, so they will probably end up being donated or sold for pennies. THAT would make me very sad indeed.
  13. Computer has been running as slow as molasses in the winter so I haven't been online much. Sorry I missed your B-day @Jeepers, I hope it was a good one!
  14. ..................... Yes, its a real product! I think we're in a lot more trouble than we think we are!
  15. Link to printed recipe: https://suttonsdaze.com/rhubarb-quick-bread/
  16. My email wasn't forwarding to the designated account and the mail sent by MrsS kept getting rejected - thus the problem. Changed my email for this site to my "real" name and all is well again.
  17. @Annarchy Is this from MrsS; or possibly my anti-virus software??? (It's not "clickable" to open)
  18. My MIL used to eat the HUGE ones - the kind where you could only fit one into a bowl! Can't remember if they were "frosted" or not though. I could never eat any variety of these as a cereal in milk cause they got tooooooooo mushy, BUT, I love the mini variety out of the box with just a little bit of peanut butter spread on them. Yum!
  19. Tags here are a percentage of the resale value of the car (or is it the age of the car?). It will cost me $122 for one year's tags, plus it has to be smogged this year too. Must be done by the date assigned in the notice or there are penalties for late registration. (It would be nice if it was due by the end of the month instead of a specific date of the month, but I guess they do it that way to spread the workload out over the month instead of having a last minute end of the month rush.)
  20. I watched this vid from Suttons Daze a while back and I wonder if Dates get dry enough (completely dry) to make it safe to vaccum seal them???
  21. I hope he doesn't start using you as a reference or a contact person for his monetary woes. I can't say for sure, but I believe my son was doing that for a while because I would get calls from collection agencies etc asking for him. I would ask them how they got my name and contact information, or WHEN they got it but they said they couldn't tell me that due to "privacy" issues. I asked them how could it be "private" when he was using MY information??? Never got a reply to either query.
  22. Latest addition to the "collection" If you actually did this, how would you describe your "skills" on the resume???
  23. @Littlesister 9This is definitely the Reader's Digest version of events that happened over a 2 year period) My son was living with me for a while - off of the books in a one bedroom apt. Things happened. He went cookoo. I was sitting at the comp playing a game and he went into the kitchen, came back w/ a pair of scissors and cut the power cord. I went into the bathroom, he went outside (can't remember why). I locked the door and would not let him back in. HE called the cops. They came to the house and said I had to let him back in. I said, "No, I don't feel safe with him around anymore." Cops couldn't MAKE me let him back in, so he spent the night throwing buckets of water at my windows. I offered to pay for 3 nights at a Motel 6. He only stayed one night, left all of his belongings there. Every once in a while he would borrow a phone, call me to ask if he could come back; even put the stranger whose phone he was using on the line to plead his case. It was very hard to say, "No." Once he showed up cold and wet and his feet were a mess. I let him in for a hot shower then told him he could sleep in the car - which I unlocked and kept the keys with me. More things happened. He went berserk over something minor. Next think I knew he was in the parking lot jumping up and down on my car and bashing it with a metal rod. Cops were called. He was hauled off to jail. Tried and found guilty of felony vandalism (I believe), so now he is a felon. Spent some time in jail, then on probation for 3 years. Five years later has finally checked himself into Rehab and is now in a "group home" in TX using his veteran's benefits. He has reached out and I have established limited contact with him though his brother and sister want nothing to do with him. But, what are you going to do when your prodigal tries to make amends? Still - keeping him at a distant with limited interaction is the path forward for now. As hard as it is YOU are not responsible for him. He has to be responsible for himself. His mother has apparently given up on him and hopes that YOU will "succeed" where she failed. Ain't gonna happen. Time for some tough love, and yes, it will be tougher on YOU than on him. Take pictures. Document everything you can. At some point you may have to have evidence that HE is the aggressor and YOU are the victim! (BTW - If YOU are the reason why he "can't wait" to get out of there tell him to go home to his momma while he's waiting for the move-in date of the apt (which probably isn't going to happen - based on his history.) BTDT ETA Pictures I found of the car he trashed
  24. Compund words can be so much fun!
