  1. You may need to do this for about a month to be sure of your diet system adjustments. Yea it costs a bit sometimes for extra test strips but its worth it for your benefit as time goes on. Eating some foods helps lower blood sugar at times but nothing , herbal or synthetic is known as an absolute cure. Its an organ not functioning just right.
  2. To get a good handle on Blood sugar levels, fasting when you wake up , just after going to bathroom first thing, before you have anything to drink or eat. Pre breakfast. 2 hours after breakfast ( generally suggestions are Blood sugar should be under 200 2hrs after a meal) . Pre lunch. Then 2 hrs afterwards Pre dinner. Then 2hrs afterwards. Pre sleep time. ( You may actually find you need a snack by then. ) Because blood sugars fluctuate and it helps determine exactly which foods do what to your blood sugar, or if you go low or high feeling, in addition to these times, take your blood sugar. More information on your particular blood sugar levels will help you figure out what is working, and what is not.
  3. Type 1 pancreas does not produce enough or any insulin, Type 2 the body is insulin resistant and the pancreas may decrease production over time . Some folks can control Type 2 by diet, but not everyone can. There is as of yet, no cure, although they have started doing more pancreas transplants but from the FB group I belong to, it seems the transplants only last about 10 years. There is work being done on a 'cure' for Type 1. Type 2 can also use insulin , other than the oral medications available. This gets individualized and there are other types , actually more than a dozen, but they generally lump it together into Type 1, Type 2 or Type 1.5 which is when the pancreas is losing its ability to produce insulin and resistance may be there anyway, and I still have not gotten a post on my wall from that group talking about the particular blood test , anyone who may be a diabetic or prediabetic should simply have done. Unfortunately so many doctors don't bother and assume ....... It involves identifying a particular gene . Ok..... protein based snacks help stabilize blood sugar and 3 meals a day plus two snacks ...... There is also something called the Dawn Phenomenon and takes waking up at 3am to test Blood Sugar to be sure its not dropping ,,,,,,,,, cause then it shoots up by Dawn or when you wake up and its HIGH. When the night before , before bedtime Blood sugar was doing good. This also may have to do with the Type 1.5 sort of diabetes often lumped in with Type 2 and treated as such until you end up having extremes and getting very sick ( and they realize you actually need insulin ) .
  4. ok, meat is still very expensive here , I don't know why because gas prices dropped so much, other than actual beef supply ( all animal meats though are high) in cost here. 5$ for a pound of hamburger?? as an example. chicken went up high too. I eat a lot of egg whites and use them in baking what I bake. Its quick . I will buy eggs as much as I can as long as I can. I can eat some beans, but they have a lot of carbs and I was not absorbing much of the magnesium from them. I get it from meats though? And millk, as well as greens and broccoli. I like eggs too, because for one person who just needs a quick meal , frying or scrambling an egg, grabbing some greens or cooking up a couple servings of veggies , making a quesadilla or wrap with the egg in it after cooking it is pretty fast and satisfying to me. I try to add something of a kind salad or sprouts and a tiny bowl of applesauce and with my morning coffee its a meal. Or lunch, lol. I boil up eggs too for hardboiled to keep in frig for protein snacks or when my blood sugar goes up and I need to bring it down. Two of those and I'm fine usually. Peanut butter and tuna get old!
  5. I mostly do not eat the yolks due to cholesterol issues since most of the time these are commercially raised eggs.
  6. I think large eggs by dozen are now 3.19 here, I still buy them, they are a mainstay for me most of the time. Versatile and easy to store in frig. yes they almost doubled in price but meat is costly too so eggs it is as long as I can get them!
  7. I think bumble bee is also doing it. I tend to buy that and it looked to be quite a bit less the last set of cans I went through. I hope they get tested for that too. I think they should just send a case to everyone who complains. I think you only get 50$ back.
  8. The shampoo or the juice stuff? LOL. I can't keep up with all these threads ! Glad you found things you wanted though.
  9. LOL, Jeepers were you the one who sent me all that chamomile tea? soak some in some boiled water for several hours, strain into pouring container , maybe not much and add to a larger container that will hold your regular shampoo you use now , should add the highlights again , then. Ratio of chamomile water probably 1: 3 or 4? to the regular shampoo...... see if that helps your highlights. Shake a bit to stir it up before each use?
  10. I don't know about the other parts of this, but add on items you need to spend 35$ I believe for it to be 'added' in . They are usually small items and supposedly this was to help cut down on their shipping costs and materials but a lot of mine end up in separate boxes entirely. I don't think they have this worked out. Best thing to do is contact them by phone if you can over an order you are trying to make. Maybe that will help sort it out. Or online chat with rep, I think that was put into their purchasing programs recently. Most of the yarn I want, even if I spent money for several skeins is an add on item listing. Drives me nuts. I already paid the monthly fee for prime membership and maybe all I need is yarn that order???? As an example of frustration, or small camping items useful for prepping....... those too, add on items ! I might end up ordering 32 $ worth of those things but cant get them shipped without another 35 $ worth of items I maybe really don't have the money for in my budget at the time.
  11. He is a little dog ........... Get really big rope toys for him, sized for German Shepherds! He can't swallow those! I hope he feels much better soon. That sucks to have to go to vet to get help.
  12. Yep, spaghetti squash is recommended for diabetic friendly pasta replacement. Low glycemic stuff, lots of fiber and vitamins.
  13. If you look up recipes for pudding, cornstarch is used. I have a bunch of that.
  14. Grafting is a great and useful thing to expand on small orchard productivity
  15. I am sorry gofish. My one cat is my anchor these days. Even when we grow up , the pets we have are our family too.
  16. Fish and chips sounds great to me, Sue. I was thinking about my two years I spent in Iceland where haddock was deep fried after batter dipping..... yummy. Then I spent three weeks in England quite a while back now. I enjoyed their haddock fish and chips.
  17. I am happy they are enjoying doing this and will have their photos for years to come. Beautifully done and a lovely way to celebrate life , it counters all the opposite stuff being so rashly pushed these days so I wanted to share it here.
  18. Part of the pre-birth pictures, when you see the full photo session, it looks like his dad is a sailor claiming his mermaid, especially with his colorful tattoos he has on his forearms. ( LOL. Its from a picture about the Battle of Troy or something ancient , from one of his USNA text books when he was at the Academy). It's a lovely photo, a little different pose than the one you see of the parents standing by the sea on the rocky rise above the water. It was quite classic. I love the picture with DIL holding Flynn , out in the water. Just enchanted, as she looks at him. Real joy.
  19. Well they love the ocean. His dad is working on his Ph.D. for Pirate History and he was reading pirate stories to him first thing in the hospital or from a text book. He said he would , beforehand. The nursery theme and many of Flynn's clothes are pirate theme too. They had fun putting it together. I love the old wooden ships and sailing techniques too, so I think that is pretty cool.
