  1. GS and I got over one and a half cords of wood stacked. Need to buy a couple more of the wood stackers. We put a dent in it but still more to stack. We took a break, and I am sitting here drinking water right now. Will go out in a bit to cover it all up. I think the cold weather is starting to come in. Yeah, got muscles I forgot about. I am a bit sore right now.
  2. For my house it is just me so $20 a week would be more than enough. I buy my milk at the Dollar Tree for $1.25. It is shelved stable so right now I have one in fridge and 5 on shelve. Good till end of this year. I do have GS, but he eats what I cook from pantry. If it is something he doesn't like, then he is on his own. He has an EBT card for food, so he won't starve. But he is very wasteful, and I can't stand that even if he bought food himself. Right now, he has fried chicken sitting on his car seat from the other day. Did I mention he's wasteful.
  3. Euphrasyne I used to do the same thing when I had cats. They came in handy for a lot of things. Still have some in garden shed that is used for garden stuff. I like your idea of covering them and using them for trash cans. Painting or covering them with fabric is a good idea. They are better than those small trashcans that don't really hold much trash. The wood will be delivered around noon today. So just waiting on that right now. Already did a few things this morning. Washing up the jars of pork and got those put away and cleaned up a little in pantry. Though still have some things to do in there. Need to run out to garden shed and pull out the wheel barrel. Will do that soon. Going to be a busy weekend.
  4. Mommato3boys I just went over your menu plan. Wish I could eat a lot of what's on there because it really does sound good. I am sticking to just meat and veggies. Fruit here right now if fresh is not very good. Even the fresh veggies are bad. I bought a head of lettuce a few weeks ago during Christmas as I haven't redone my aero garden again yet. And paid $1.68 for it and when I cut it open it was rotten inside. But the prettiest head of lettuce on the outside. What is going on with our produce? I stopped buying it. Going to try to grow tomatoes indoors for the winter next winter in 5 gal. buckets. Plus, what I grow in the aero gardens. I really need to find some good fruit somewhere, or just stick with frozen blueberries and such.
  5. This is a great idea. I am diabetic so I need more protein than most. But I am already covered for that. I have a load of canned veggies that I have decided to use those to make my soups instead of my frozen veggies. GS has been eating at work, so not cooking for him any longer and he is now buying his own food. But does eat with me when he is off work. But it is whatever I cook and no longer his choice. This alone has saved me a bundle. I am now back to just eggs, milk and coffee creamer. Seems there is one other thing I get weekly but can't think of it now. I will buy meat if it is a really good price and come home to can it. It doesn't make it to the freezer. But at the same time, I am canning what is in the freezer as well. Bought eggs yesterday at the tune of $1.78 so they are going up again and I noticed they are not as plentiful again. So, an egg shortage is coming. I hope to keep my groceries down to less than $20 a week or even every 2 weeks. I need other things so robbing Paul to get those things. I'm on a mission. The canned veggies I am talking about are store bought canned veggies.
  6. Is it spring yet? It's coming our way for the severe cold weather, but with rain so far. But I am betting there will be sleet mixed in with it. I will have to have GS sleeping in house again. He went back to sleeping in car, but it will be way too cold for that. And he comes in at least twice during the night to use bathroom and then goes back out to car. I don't want the garage door opened at all during this cold spell. Will need to talk to him when he gets home from work tonight. Though tonight will be a warmer night. I will be busting my butt to get as much wood stacked as I can. With GS's help it will at least go much faster. Need to get wheel barrel out of shed in the morning and remove the cover from the rack also. I want to move the older wood to use first that is what will get moved up to house. Maybe about a quarter of a cord left.
  7. Change of plans on the house cleaning. Will be stacking 2 cords of wood instead. That should finish me off for a day. I'm tired now. I think my sugar is dropping. Need to check it. I did eat breakfast but not lunch. So will grab something in a bit.
  8. Jeepers, maybe once or twice a year you can make a trip to Ohio to shop. Maybe have your DIL go with you. That is what my DD and I are doing now. But we go to NC because they have a monster outlet and other neat places to go. We are planning a trip for this spring. Got the canning done. 13 pints of pork and 3 pints of beef. So, tomorrow is house cleaning and now dog sitting on top of it. But GS is off tomorrow so I will send him over to let the dog out and play with her a bit before letting her back in house. I just have to remind him to give her a goodie when she goes in. She won't let him forget it though.
  9. Jeepers, have a safe trip to Indy. Praying all goes well with trip to and from and for the Ohio house that all will be good when you get back. Becca Anne: prayers that you will find the right solution for your Stepfather. I know that is a hard thing to have to go through. Wow! Mt. Rider, glad your DH didn't get a ticket. Sounds like he needs an electrical over hall. Hopefully they can find the problem. Stay warm girl. Canning the Boston butts in a few. Had a couple of things to get done first and then decided to sit down and drink coffee and get on here. What can I say. I needed me some coffee. I have some more of those small thin steaks I am canning today also. Might get maybe 4 jars. Found those in freezer. So, to the canner they go. I don't have to keep a couple of heavy bottles on top of freezer now. So, it is slowly getting emptied. Will start the soups hopefully on Monday. Need to take a break and catch up on housework also. At least all the laundry is done now.
  10. I think I would call them to see when they will be in. My pharmacy will let me know if they have info from the company, they are getting it from.
  11. That would be a good idea OOTO. At least there would be no flooding and hopefully no busted pipes. Empty or otherwise. Jeepers stay safe when you leave. Put something heavy in back of jeep to help with traction also. Wouldn't hurt to have some kitty litter in the jeep as well for traction just in case. Got all the clothes washed, cleaned kitchen and got the unstuffed peppers labeled and put away. Went to the hardware store to buy those covers for the outside faucets. My old ones didn't hold up this year. While I was in the hardware store, I decided to just look around. They were selling beanie hats with head lights on them. They are USP rechargeable, and you can remove it to wash the beanie. So, I bought one. Those lights have 4 settings and the highest one is really bright. That could come in handy at night if the lights go out or I have to make a run at night to the shed for something. I don't like hats but that one was comfortable. Just have to keep it hidden from GS. He loves beanies. Maybe I will get him one for his birthday. I also bought their last gal. of lamp oil. I had been meaning to buy some and kept forgetting. I am still adding to that a little at a time. It is the same lamp oil that Leman's carry.
  12. Didn't can the Boston butt yet. But got the unstuffed peppers labeled and put away. Then started washing clothes. Yep, I haven't washed clothes in about 2 weeks. I did wash towels and sheets but not clothes. Was going to do that yesterday while the pressure canners were going but GS beat me to the washing machine. He had to wash his work clothes. So today I have been going through all the boxes in living room. That is almost done. I now have a lot of empty plastic totes. But will put those in the attic for the time being. Never know if I might need one again. And I am sure I will need one for something. The 3 that are cracked a bit, or the top is broken, I am going to use those for container gardens this spring.
  13. I am on auto refill also, but those last 2 prescriptions still ended up on back order. They call me about 2 weeks before they are due to let me know. they are waiting on insurance so they can fill them. Then call me back when they are ready.
  14. I saw something that might be good for a freezer breakfast. They took English muffins and put sausage, and some had bacon, I think egg, and cheese, but not sure what else. And froze them. Something like that for breakfast would be good also.
  15. I have been having the same issues here now. But right now, I am good on everything. The two that was on backorder came in last week and I picked them up. They know I will only pick up RX's on Thursday as that is senior day, and I will shop on that day only. I get $10.00 coupons from them for the total grocery bill, and I also get a senior discount on the total. But I noticed last time I bought groceries in there; they took 5% off each item.
  16. Don't blame you for selling them Jeepers. But mother is also right. Keeping some back just in case could be a plus. But on the other hand, you are not going to be living there much longer so it would be the new owner's issue. Most of my neighbors are new ones as well, all younger with kids and work. Plus, they keep to themselves. I do have one now that will say hello as she walks to the bus to pick up her kids from school. But that is about it. Now losing another neighbor and not sure if his wife will stay put or move. But her kids are living around here where mine are not around here anymore. Though one GD right now is living in NP News. But her DH is in Coast Guard, and they could be moving out of state in a couple of years. GS is useless. He can't get his own act together and he will be going in Coast Guard at some point. So, I still have the idea of moving to NC at some point, but it won't be with these higher interest rates. I think maybe I should have just sold the house as is. But I wouldn't have gotten as much for it. Now I am in a wait and see what happens with the economy and housing market. Canned up more of the unstuffed peppers but this time tweaked it a bit. Didn't add the Italian season this time but did add a bit of thyme. Also increased the number of onions and peppers. Onions by 1/2 cup and peppers by a cup. Turned out a bit better for my taste. More canning tomorrow. I'm tired. Finished off the rest of peppers making spaghetti sauce. So that is done as well. Just finished cleaning up the kitchen from the big mess I made.
  17. So far, I have walked 23.2 miles this week. No walking other than a grocery store yesterday due to bad weather. I always try to get out and walk the small block at least 8 times around a day weather permitting. That one is 7 of those trips are one mile with one extra trip around. Plus, all the walking back and forth in house working on stuff. During warmer weather I walk the whole neighborhood. One trip around is a mile and I try to walk at least 6 to 7 times around at different times with twice around each time.
  18. We got a lot of rain, but I don't know how many inches. It had to be at least 4 or 5 inches as water was badly puddling in neighbor's yards and that doesn't normally happen. No snow think goodness. The winds were blowing they said at 60 miles per hour at times. We never lost current. So, all is great. Sun is shining brightly this morning. But a bit colder today. Will get up to about 52* today compared to 65 yesterday. Had to mop kitchen floor again before I could start canning again. But everything is set up to get it started. GS must have spilled something on it as I got up this morning with my feet sticking to the floor. He will try to clean up his spills but not very well. His bronchitis is doing much better now. So, debating him going back to sleeping in his car or giving him another night in the house. He's at doctors now so will decide when he gets back. I feel like I am coming down with it now. Sneezing and sniffling. Though I have kept my hands washed constantly and spraying Lysol everywhere. I guess with him not keeping his hands washed and doorknobs and such even though I was spraying them with Lysol as well as everything else, it just wasn't enough. But hopefully it won't be as bad as he had it. He is a slob and doesn't clean up well behind himself. So was hard to keep up with his mess to keep me from catching it. Just waiting for floor to dry and then the canning begins.
  19. I got the Afrin spray at Kroger today. I have had to use it on occasion. So decided to get it just in case of a shortage here. If you would like I can send you a couple of bottles of it. Just PM me if you would like to have it.
  20. Jeepers, we are getting a Publix soon, but the one downtown Suffolk has already opened, and people said the prices are really high. The one closest to me has broken ground but not sure if they have started construction much yet. So, I haven't been in one yet. But the Harris Teeter and Food Lion both have the buy one get one free sometimes. Also, Harris Teeter sometimes does a buy 2 and get 3 free at times. But not real often. I hit both of those sales when I can. Kroger does have some really good sales. But for some reason I just never think to go there. They are the furthest store from me but only about maybe 10 minutes away. But need to start going there at least twice a month when I need things. I had to change my e-mail address when the old one got hacked and I still haven't changed the e-mails for any of the stores to get the adds. I need to sit down and get that done.
  21. I just realized that we haven't seen WE2 on here in a while. hope she is doing ok.
  22. Necie, I hope and pray everything will be ok. I know caring for loved ones is not easy. Was on the phone with the insurance company for an hour answering questions for the long-term insurance. Yep, I have a Phy. No big deal as I should pass it anyway. They will come to the house to do it. So that is good. I sure didn't want to go to them. So will see how that goes. Got home and GS had cleaned out his car in the rain. Dumb kid. He's sick and out there cleaning out his car. But he also cleaned up the bathroom and washed his clothes. So, he is starting to feel better. I just don't want him to have a relapse from the bronchitis. He is still coughing some but not as bad. It's been raining off and on and now raining hard. Wind has been rather bad, but I have delt with high wind like this before. I don't call this that bad of a storm. But those in other states had the snow and the really cold weather. Today it got up to 65* and still not that bad outside now. My DD called and said she is now starting her 3ed round of antibiotics. Seems she went to the dentist, and they discovered she has an infection in the saliva glands. It had gone into an ear infection which the antibiotic cleared that up, but the saliva gland is still full of infection. She said because of the swelling, it makes everything hurt from ear, teeth to jaw. She said it hurts to put her teeth together because of the swelling. Get a straw and sip chicken broth. Nothing I can do to help her with that one. She said they told her it didn't start from the ear.
  23. Jeepers, you will get there. And it is hard when you can't get it done. I'm just glad I can now get that out of the way. Still a way to go to get the chest freezer emptied and what did I do today but buy a Boston butt to can. I don't have much pork canned. So, when I went to Kroger just to compare prices, they had a good size one for $6.23 reduced. So, I jumped on it. Then spotted the roast and there was a few that was reduced so got one of those to cut up for stew beef. Going to can beef stew and was out of stew beef.
  24. Went to Kroger earlier and walked around that place for over 2 hours. Just mostly comparing prices to other stores. Milk, eggs, butter, some of the canned goods are higher in price along with several other things. I guess that is why they say to only buy the sale items. And everyone here was right. College dr. and Harborview both have those speed camera everywhere. Just goes to show how long it's been since I drove down that way. But I did end up spending money. I stocked back up on sale OTC meds as I was getting really low on some things. Only got the sale items on what I needed. Cough syrup and such. Then looked at the clothes as they had 78% off on some items. Found a couple of nice shirts super cheap so bought those. Then walked through the isles to check grocery prices. They are higher on a lot of things, but the sales make it a bit cheaper. Though I didn't buy much of the food items other than coffee creamer, a small container of choc. milk for GS. and some apple juice that was on sale for him as well. Went down the meat isle and those prices were not the best. Though I did find a roast on sale that I will cut up for stew beef. and a Boston butt that was cheaper than the other stores. I will that. And that was all the grocery end of things I bought. I did buy a pack of UNO cards on sale and a bingo game. Yes, I like to play Bingo. I will add those to my other things to do in hard times. Need to go to bank to deposit a couple of checks also. The rain hasn't been that bad. Just off and on but the wind is picking up pretty good now.
