  1. Got living room totally empty and cleaning the floors now. I am putting the finisher on the hardwood floor now but have to wait 45 minutes between coats. And as usual, I had to drop everything again to take GS his spare key as he locked them in his car. So that was a good 2 hours out of my day. He is here now, and he ate, and I put his tail to work weeding out the flower beds. If he's going to keep coming here to eat and just sit around while I work all day, he is sadly mistaking. I am shoving that boot future up his butt and making him earn his keep. I think this time he is getting the message not to mess with me. I am handing his crap back to him full force right down to how he is not paying his bills and trying to save money. I just hope the Coast Guard calls him in fast. He needs to get those orders before he gets evicted. If he has the orders, then they will let him out of his lease. Just praying for that to happen. And yes, I hate going to Norfolk and GS had my transponder for tunnel. But I can call them, and they will fix it, so I won't pay the full price. He had the interview with Best Buy this afternoon. He has to go through. 2 more of them before he knows if he has the job. I suggested he keep looking just in case. It is full time but a minimum wage job. he can't live in that apartment on minimum wage. He couldn't make it at $18 an hour. So that should say something about this economy. Kids really can't make it now with everything going so far up in price. But then my GS just doesn't try to stretch a dollar either. He has been eating out on overdraft just like I thought he was doing. I told him he cannot be over drafting and taking out early pay each payday and expect to be able to have money to pay his bills. It doesn't work that way. But he says he knows what he is doing. Yep, it shows he's in debt up to his eyeballs and can't pay rent or anything else. He's so smart when it comes to money. We should all take a lesson from him. NOT!
  2. Kappydell, Glad to see you posting again. And all the chickens and goats and such are all doing well also. Hope you can find a lawyer that will take your case soon. And that your hand will gain more strength. I know how that can be. My left hand is now starting to show signs of arthritis. Getting harder to make a fist without pain. Hopefully the physical therapy will help you improve, and you will be able to move around and do more with no issues. Working on house this morning and just taking a break now. Deep cleaning my bedroom and hoping to finish getting the furniture I am moving from bedroom to the living room. My house is a hot mess and having first DGD and her DH living here and then DGS living here and then moving to his apartment but coming here to stay every morning till he went to work in evening has really slowed me down getting a lot of things done. I kept putting a lot of things off and now it is catch up time. GS has an interview this afternoon. It is with Best Buy and not a good place for him to work as I know where his pay will be going instead of rent. He has done nothing but talk about a new gaming computer to the tune of over $4000. He doesn't need that. He needs to pay off his bills as I told him flat out, I will not pay anymore of his bills. His phone bill is due on the 11th, and he has his last paycheck from his last job coming on the 6th. And he has to pay over $300 in overdraft, or they will freeze his account on the 12th. You would think he would have learned by now that eating out and buying your wants instead of paying your bills will get you in trouble every time. But as they say stupid is as stupid does or something like that. Wish the military would hurry up and send him for his Phy. and test and ship him off to bootcamp before I give him the full boot out and away from my house. I need to wash blinds and hang curtains and still haven't gone to buy new curtain rods for bathroom. Need to do that soon. I almost have the office/sewing room/craft room finished. Just going through a few more things and getting that set up and then washing windows, blinds and hanging curtains back up. I am really getting tired, but all this must get done. I am tired of the messed-up house. I look at what I am dealing with from my construction and yes Jeepers I can feel for you as you have it much worse having to live in a hotel for months while all that is going on. But it looks like things are really starting to come together now. Yet still a lot to get done. Hoping the house sells as soon as you get it on the market so you can move to Indy and enjoy your grandson and new house. DGD wants me to help her plant a garden next spring. Her DH will do most of the work and I will just be showing them what to do to help them get started. They are renting a two-story house, and I sure don't miss those steps. Jeepers you won't miss those steps either once you move to Indy.
  3. I remember Hell's Angels. Haven't heard that name in years. They had a car drive through the window at the market that my DH cooked collards for. Just missed the sandwich area. Older lady hit the gas instead of brakes when she pulled into parking lot. If I remember correctly, I think it had happened twice. The other time was a man and just missed the propane tanks. Needless to say, they fixed cement barriers around the propane tanks just in case. Yep, and it's not butter commercial. I do remember that one. All are so funny. Now the above store can have a blue light special after the clean up on aisle 2
  4. Wonder what shipping would cost. That could be an issue for me unless I can find an Amish store somewhere near here. When I am ready to get a new living room suit and den furniture, I will be buying tables and such also. I would be looking for some good quality things and Amish does have some really nice things.
  5. Jeepers, if I try it, it would not be with meat, but with maybe a veggie or fruit. But then I would double bag it into a larger zip lock freezer bag and can only take out what I need. But not sure if that is worth it or not. I have the vacuum sealer bags anyway. But just wondering if the zip lock idea would really work.
  6. Jeepers, it does sound like a fuse since both went out at the same time. They aren't hard to replace. If you have an Auto Zone or something, they will look at it for free and if that is the case, they will sell you the fuse and then put it in for you for free. Or at least they will do that here. Worth checking into. Got the living room ready to put the furniture in as soon as the rest of canning supplies are out anyway. It's only a long table that sits behind a couch, a TV stand and chair and side table. Not buying furniture till GS is out of my house with his dirty feet. Yeah, white furniture and dirty feet go well together. I have been wondering where an Amish furniture store is around here. Not crazy about Haynes, and not sure if Ashley or Grand furniture will have what I want. But not really ready to start looking yet. Hope you find what you want.
  7. I saw the 4th one down. I have two vacuum sealers. So, unless I give it a try, I don't know if it would work with mine or not. Might try sealing one item that way just to see if it will work. At the price of the bags for the vacuum sealers it might be worth it to see if it really is worth doing it with Zip lock bags or not. Though zip lock bags are not cheap anymore either.
  8. Got the new hot water heater installed this morning. Should see my water bill go back down now. I was starting to empty the bucket every three days. The whole bottom was rusted out. But the tank still worked. But then the heater lasted over 12 years. So not bad. Longer than I thought it would be considering nothing last as long as it used to. Miki, you are right about GS. He has been using me to his advantage for a while now. He has applied for a job at Best Buy warehouse. But where he said they are there is no warehouse but a back room where the extra merchandise is and where they ship things out. More than likely a minimum wage job. Bets are going that he buys a new computer before paying his bills. His rent is now past due, and he has till the 12th to pay or get evicted. I was thinking about paying for one more month till he can get into bootcamp but rethinking that. He sent me a text this morning apologizing for how he acted Saturday morning and that he would try to do better to contain himself while he goes through withdrawals from nicotine. Stating he is trying to stop smoking. How many times have I heard that. He's using the I'm losing weight again as an excuse to use me. I am on to his games, and I really am thinking about just letting him fall this time. But torn about that chance of him going into military also. Wondering if I should just bite the bullet and pay the rent for this one month or let him fall which could keep him out of military as he would be homeless. But come November I will not pay the rent. Military or not. I am betting I will win the bet about the new computer if he takes the job at Best Buy.
  9. I don't have any of the silicone bakeware. Heard to many times they don't work. Midnightmom that is a great idea. I like it. I saw on U-Tube, and I hope I can find it again, how a guy used the Ziplock bags for the seal a meal instead of the high price bags. He cut them and then put the zipper part inside the bag near top and then put it through the seal a meal after putting the food in. It took out all of the air and then he just zipped it up. Seemed to have worked. But I really need to find it again as I want to try it.
  10. Midnightmom, I know they provide transportation to bootcamp but not sure for the phy. and Asvab testing. I will need to find that out soon. I will check out FB. Thank you for that info. The funny thing is with all the issues I had on Trulicity; I was off of it for 2 months before seeing the primary doctor that refused to take me off of it. My A1C went up to 7.2 while I was on it. A month later when I saw the endocrinologist after being off Trulicity for by then 3 months my A1C dropped to 6.7. So Trulicity did nothing for me. Messed up my Thyroid as well. I think this endo doctor will get me straight. I had not heard from GS since he left the house to go home yesterday morning. He texted me around 3 pm and said he had bought food to eat but he has no money. Which means he has over drafted now at least close to $300. This is one of the things I am after him over. overdraft and borrowing against his paycheck every paycheck which these are the reasons he can't pay his bills. I never bothered to text him back. He also said he has an interview on Tuesday. Hopefully he will keep that appointment. But will see. I am sure he will show up on my doorstep tomorrow morning. He gets his final paycheck on the 6th, and he has already spent half of that plus he has to pay back the overdraft, or they will lock his account on the 12th till it is paid off. These are just some of the things I am dealing with right now. He just thinks I can pay his bills for him and after talking with his dad instead of his mother this time, these are things they went through with him. Seems that is one of the reasons they won't help me get him on his feet as he refuses to save money and pay his bills. They paid his computer and other things off for him a few years ago. Well, I think it is time to let him sink. But he can't have anything in collections to get into boot camp. So, I did pay off his 2 medical bills, car payment and his internet that he cancelled. But that is all I am doing for him.
  11. euphrasyne, I know what you mean about family and drama. I am about to kick my GS to the curb. He is trying to get into Coast Guard, and they need to speed that up. He got fired from job last week and no money to pay rent. So, he is trying to push his way back into my house. Not this time. I can't take any more of his tantrums when he doesn't get his way. He is almost 22 years old and acts like a 2-year-old. He put me in a bad mood with his mouth Sat. morning when he came over (and no, I will not buy cigarettes for him). That was part of his mouthing off at me. So, I went to my office and slammed the door and he left. Never went to his sister's house for dinner last night either. Not heard from him today and I am enjoying my peace and quiet right now. Went to church this morning and trying to get back into doing things at church again but with GS it is hard to know what I can get involved in yet as I hope I won't have to take him to Richmond for the Coast Guard for physical and testing. Might have to try to at least get his parents to do that much for him. But I doubt they will even do that. Family really doesn't want much to do with me as long as GS is in and out of my house. It's a shame they are like that. But if they want to act like fools because I tried to help their son then that is on them not me. Just gives me more time to myself after GS is totally out of here. GD's baby is due in 2 weeks. Doesn't seem like it has been almost 9 months already. Thinking she might have the baby a bit early after seeing her last night. She looked really tired. Not sleeping well and having false contractions as well. She doesn't want anything to do with her brother either as he calls on phone and says she's gay and fat. Yep, that's my GS. Everyone is gay in his eyes, and I have his mother to think for his actions on that one as she provokes it and gets him started. He best not starts that up in boot camp. He just might get the boot in an undisclosed area. But that would break him from the type of talk he pulls. I have been told I love my Bible more than him because I told him not to come over today as I am going to church. Well so be it. The Lord comes before him. And I will just keep praying for him. But sometimes I wonder if God hears me as this is his third and final chance to get his life together. He is sinking in that right now. But if I can get him to boot camp then my job is done. Just Please keep him in prayer for that to happen real soon. Going to do a bit of housework in a bit but nothing major. Going to try to have an easy day today. Our church lets out at 11 am so it seems like I have a longer day than getting out at 12. Not really, but I am used to the old hours we had before covid. Now they don't want to go back to the old hours which is fine with me, but I also have to be at Sunday school and hour earlier also.
  12. I will be changing out my brown doors all over the house over time as well to white ones. Need to figure out how to go about the sliding bedroom closet doors and sliding door on closet in hall as well. I hate those sliding doors. When I had the construction done, they did change out the 2-bathroom doors and I like them much better. My house was built in 1964.
  13. Jeepers, glad they are making great progress. All my baseboards are stained brown and the frames around the doors and windows as well. I am slowly getting all of that painted white. While at my GD's house today I noticed the front of her house is similar to yours but no picture windows or double front door. The shutters are white and the top floor on outside is brown and the lower part a tan color. The door was painted blue. There are a lot of houses in her neighborhood that looked similar to yours. Never paid attention to that till I saw the picture of your house. Her house was built in 1918.
  14. Miki, he's not in Coast Guard yet. They will let him know when he has to go for the physical and such. He said they told him he cannot have any bills in collections and since he will not pay his medical bills like he should, I did pay the two that was heading there for him. But I can't keep doing this for him. I am also thinking of letting him just get evicted from apartment instead of paying his full rent. His parents refuse as they said they have been through this with him before. But if he gets evicted, then he will have court cost to pay or he cannot get into Coast Guard till it is taken care of. So, I am torn as to what to do. He doesn't have a job, he is in overdraft on his account, and I also paid his car payment and cox after he cancelled that. My real estate tax is coming due as well as my personal property plus I need to renew my car tags which all has gone up in price. He never has his rent money and if he does its only part of it. And now with no job I am stuck as to what to do. I don't want him having any delays getting into the coast guard nor do I want him to lose everything he has, but I am just done. So, trying to decide rather to try to cough up the full rent money for one month giving him more time to get a storage shed for his things and hoping he will have his orders for Coast Guard before Dec. 12th. or just let it all go. If he gets his orders before he loses the apartment, he can show his orders and get out of it that way. He was showing his tail so bad when he came over this morning, I told him to go home after eating and if he wanted to go to his sisters for dinner, he can drive himself there. He never showed up to his sister's house. Never did I ever think one of my Grandchildren would turn out like this. A part of me says just let him go and another part says to keep trying to help him. Not an easy choice. Becca Anne, sorry you ended up with covid. I was hoping it would bypass you. Hope you get over it fast. Try to rest as much as you can. Jeepers, glad you were able to get another month secured without all the hassle you have had in past. Hopefully you will be able to move back in, in another month. As long as you have a bathroom and hopefully a kitchen you should be ok. But even if the kitchen is not ready. You could use a microwave and such. I have been there and done that one twice. GD's baby is due in 2 weeks. She thinks it will be early, but time will tell. Had a good time at her house today. DD is leaving to head back to NC now. SIL is working nights all this next week as the other manager is on vacation and he had to fire someone also. He doesn't usually work nights, but this one caught him off guard. he will get through it though. Working nights is not easy. DD said they are getting ready to do a lot of work on the house. So much for student loans. They just don't want to go in with me for just half the rent for their son to keep him from having a court cost that could slow him down getting into the coast guard now. I understand the reason, but at least they could do this much so he will get in fast with not much time to change his mind.
  15. Midnightmom, I will check her out. I didn't know she had a bookstore. So that should be interesting to see what she has. I won't start a class till GS is totally out of house. Can't wait for him to get into Coast Guard. As he won't be coming back here. I have had enough of his behavior. He's starting it up again. And I am done. He's mad because he came over at 10:30 and I won't fix breakfast for him. So, he's cooking his own food. And I am betting I will be cleaning it up behind him like always. He's also mad because I told him he can't come over tomorrow. Said I am going to church and then out with friends. He started screaming that I like my Bible more than him. Really! He needs a life of his own. So, he said fine he will just starve. Stating his stove and oven won't work and that he put in a work order so he can't fix anything to eat. Well, it's called sandwiches and a microwave. Deal with it. Will be going to GD's house later today for dinner. Not taking GS with me with that altitude. If he wants to go, he can drive himself over there. I'm just not dealing with it today. Going to work on dining room and give that a deep cleaning in a bit maybe. Right now, I shut the door to office, so I won't have to hear GS's mouth moving. He has plucked my last nerve this morning. I kicked him out of house last night because he indicated he was spending the night. Nope not happening.
  16. Becca Anne, I am so sorry to hear about your chickens. But maybe next spring you can figure out what is getting to them and get it fixed once and for all. I really hope you find the problem. And praying you and family all get well fast. Jeepers, what I bought must still have what works in it on the Dayquil. Will find out next time I need it. I to want to get more into the herbal things for coughs and such. Looking for a good book on how to tell what is what . If I can find a class on it, I would love to take one. I know my GD in Washington state is taking classes there. But I have not found anything like that around here yet. GD that lives here, just texted me a few minutes ago. She wants GS and I to come to her house tomorrow for dinner. Guess who will be there? Yep, my DD and SIL whom said it cost them over $100 in gas to come here to help GS move out of his apartment. And nope they are only coming to spend weekend with GD. They will not help me with anything nor help GS. I think DD is mad at me for helping GS get on his feet. I don't care if she is, as He is doing better, but still has a lot to learn. He is trying even though I would like to ram a foot up his butt when he gets out of line. He is on way here now as he just left the recruiting office. Hope it will be good news that he can get in right away. I am changing my diet a lot and doing much more walking as well. I just wish the weather would hold up so I can work in yard more. Been cloudy for days and sprinkling on and off making it to wet to get in flower beds. We had a good rain last night and still cloudy now. Will head down to pick up RX after GS gets here and buy some eggs as well. I was going to get them at Harris Teeter since I was there, but they were double the price over what Food Lion sells them for. Yes now I can hit save. That is getting old doing that.
  17. I remember about the Sudafed. I would sign for it and show ID. Now you can't get that one as they changed the formula and it's not as good as it used to be. I read not too long ago that they are going to cut back on all the flu and cold medicine making it harder to buy. Why they are doing this, I really don't remember. But it is not looking good. Went to the drug store (Walgreens) and the shelves were fairly well stocked. So maybe that article I read was not true. But I think something is in the wind. So best to be prepared than to need it and can't get it. Didn't get as much done in living and dining rooms as I hoped but then tomorrow is another day. When I got home from store, I pulled the RX's out of bag and my Synthroid wasn't there. So called the drug store and it was not called in. So called the doctor's office and they called it in. So now have to go back tomorrow to pick that up. I hate making two trips for an RX but at least it is only 5 minutes away.
  18. Went to drug store to pick up RX's. I did a bit of stocking on the buy one get one free items. I had used up the cough syrup when I had the bad cough for 4 months. I bought Dayquil severe cold and flu cough syrup. When I went to check out, I had to show ID for the Dayquil. Never had to do that before. It's not a narcotic that I am aware of, and it was on shelf with the other cough syrups. I can't find anything in the ingredients that would cause me to have to show ID. But I bought it anyway. Might buy another bottle in another store to see if I have to show ID or not. I think now I have almost all of my low areas restocked.
  19. I have seen that video. There were a lot of pros and cons to it though. But I am working on getting my A1C down to at least 4.8 and hopefully get it stabilized to that point. Not sure though how low a normal A1C can be. If I can go lower, I will. I have already tried the fasting for 5 days drinking mostly water and it did not change things a lot. I would eat just a bit of protein for breakfast and then nothing the rest of day. No change. Diabetes runs in my family. They say sugar and carbs are not the culprit but something sure is. So, it's hard to say unless I do some serious research on it. Just don't have the time right now. The Endo doctor said bacon and eggs every morning but that also on a daily basis can raise the bad cholesterol. So, it is a catch 22. Getting ready to clean the floors in dining room and living room then going to move a couple pieces of furniture in there. GS showed up this morning unannounced. So now I am going to put his butt to work. If he wants to come here during the day and then go home at night, he will be working around here. I am over this.
  20. Jeepers, it sounds like the house is coming along nicely. Once the kitchen cabinets come in and the bathrooms are put back together, they will be very close to being done. Hopefully that will happen soon. GS went home around 8pm tonight so now I am free until about noon tomorrow. All my new prescriptions are now ready so need to pick them up tomorrow. This doctor has totally changed everything from what the family doctor had me on. hoping this helps me a lot. The Endocrinologist seems to know his stuff. So, here's hoping for some big changes in my health. I see the heart doctor near the end of next month. And will be making appointment with new family doctor soon. Just don't want all the doctor's appointments bunched up together.
  21. Checked on that check I thought was lost in mail. I called the person it was going to, and she has it but has never cashed it as they were out of town. So, she is putting it in bank tomorrow. So now my check book is straight, and all bills are paid. At least till next month. GS is still here. He goes home at night and comes back around noon. Can't get him in the military fast enough. But at least he has that appointment with the recruiter on Friday. Hoping things move along fast after that. That boy needs a life and to grow up. So, bills are paid, been to bank to get out cash for lawn guy, and hot water tank is in garage and ready for the plumber. And yes, I lit the furnace myself. I remembered I had been the one lighting the old one several years ago. And this one isn't that much different. So turned on the gas and struck a match to the burner. So now that is ready to go when needed. Just flip the emergency switch and it will come on. No issues there.
  22. Called the plumbers. They will be here on Monday to replace hot water tank. Got the new hot water tank out of the shed and moved to garage. Went to bank to draw out money for lawn guy. He really does not want to get paid by check. He caught me off guard Monday. As I was at doctor, and he had been here to cut grass and was gone. So will pay him next time. Speaking of bills, I have some to put in mailbox tomorrow and I think one is lost in mail. Need to check on that as it has not gone through the bank yet. Miki, hope you get your mailbox fixed and it doesn't get hit again. I have been down that road before and now issues with neighbor beating it down with her lawnmower and it is very wobbly now. She doesn't want it near her yard. Well, that mailbox was there before her house was even built and is next to a light pole. It is across the street and unless the postal service says I can move it there is nothing I can do to move it. But I can fix it so she can't keep hitting it. I think she broke the pole inside the plastic cover that goes over the post.
  23. Got the living room and dining room almost emptied now. Need to clean the floors and then I have some furniture I need to move around from another room to put in there. We had rain again today so haven't been able to get back into garage yet. I need to pull a lot of stuff out onto the driveway in order to move a shelving unit to other side of garage. Then move the freezer after I get it emptied and defrosted again. Plus, I will need to move the toolbox. Then I can get things set up on shelving unit like I want and have everything better organized and easy to get to. Going to go ahead and replace the hot water tank as well. So, will be getting the new one out of shed and moving it to garage to have it installed. Will have him check pilot light on the furnace as well. I want to watch what he does when lighting the furnace as if I learn then I can do it myself next time. Bought new fire alarms and Carbon monoxide detectors also to put up. One in garage and one in den as well. My old ones have quit on me. They last about 10 years, and it is past that time.
  24. Agreed. They need to catch the person that is doing that. Miki, I think I would build a brick wall type fixture around the new mailbox. That should do some damage to whoever is hitting it and make them slow down. I have seen where they build a square brick box like fixture with the mailbox fixed into the brick. Might be something to think about. You might could google mailboxes on internet to see what they have.
  25. I will be checking out a lot of my supplies once I finish up on getting house together. I think I had packed washcloths into a 5 gal. bucket with a toilet seat on it for emergencies. But need to get into attic and pull everything down from there. Making plans now for redoing the garage setup so it better works for me. It was set up for DH and all his tools and things, but now I really think I need to make it work for my needs now.
