  1. Love the car. That is just too funny. Yes, the Zombies are coming. For Halloween at least. Glad to see progress finally starting on your house. Things should start moving better after the electrical and plumbing city inspections are done. GS got a part time job. He starts Monday. That will help him a lot to get his act together and learn to balance his bank account. He is at least trying now. He came over here again today before going to work at about 1pm. I fixed us some lunch and he stayed till time to go to work. More than likely he will be here over weekend as well. State police pulled him over for his expired license. He said the police asked if he knew why he was pulled over and he said yes but for him to tell him why. Police told him his license was expired and GS showed his Washington License and said he just moved and hasn't had a chance to take care of it. Not really, he's had 2 years to take care of it and was too lazy to go do it. Anyway, police just told him to take care of it as soon as possible and let him go. No ticket. He got caught on the interstate in Norfolk. He had to go around because the tunnel was backed up. So not a lot done today. Knee is about the same as yesterday. Just emptied dishwasher, maid bed and that has been about it. Other than fixing lunch for both me and GS. He has left for work a little while ago. But once he starts his part time job he won't be coming here before going to his full-time job, as he will be working from 11am till 2pm. Then off to work which starts at 4pm but he likes to start at 3:30 for a little extra pay each week. I think he might be starting to get the idea that he must pay his bills on time.
  2. Becca Anne, I also was thinking you were talking about your son Ben. Not your older son. I do think it is great that you are helping him with home business plans and such. I do hope that helps him with a great job. You have done great with homeschooling those children. My GS is also a bit autistic. But he is also one who hates reading and will not listen to anything. He is mostly ADHD. He is a smart child but his refusing to listen and pay attention has messed him up in his ability to learn how to handle money, and he is not a people person which doesn't help either. But he is now learning that he has to deal with people to work a good job. As for money, he is working on it. Seems his only goal in life is to be a computer game designer. He needs schooling for that, and he hates school, Is not college material. He just won't sit down to study for something like that. Let alone anything else. He tried less than one year of college and dropped out within 6 months. He is not going to sit still long enough to study. Just can't sleep. Been up and down out of bed all night. So, here I am up but not really ready to do anything yet this morning. I have nights like that sometimes but at least it isn't often. Just a lot on my mind with getting things done around the house. I did get the den fully cleaned up but still need to clean the patio window. Will get that done sometime this morning before the sun hits back of house. Not sure what else I will do today as it will depend on how my knee is doing. I might next week try to just call an orthopedic doctor to see if I can get in without a referral.
  3. Jeepers, I do have the gliders to move furniture. They work really well. But the desk I can only move down the hall so far and then I have to lift it up on end onto an old rug and pull it around the corner into the room. That is because the desk is deep and wide. But it will go through there as I also took it. out. I am waiting till knee is better as I have the desk, sewing machine table and 2 other bookcases. Plus, a dresser and a small 2 drawer cabinet that I put material in. That is a lot to move with a bad knee. GS may be over this weekend, and I might get him to help me. One thing about him. Over the past 2 years with all I have gone through to get him in the right mind set and delt with his mess, he will help me. He came by house today before going to work. He was heading out for an interview for a parttime job and the roads all the way around the area was closed due to flooding. So, he called them to let them know he couldn't get through. Of course, they knew it was blocked so they are setting up another interview when things clear up. He did have his rent money all along and was just testing us to see if me or his mom would help pay the rent. Glad we both said no. So, he is now thinking things through and looking to get a part time job. At least now he is seeing that your wants do not come before your bills. He will learn the hard way, but he will learn. Said he is coming over Friday after work also. But After work for him is just after 1am. I am usually in bed. So, guess I won't be going to bed early tomorrow night. He is also thinking about changing from working nights to going to the day shift. But not sure if he will do that or not. Only time will tell. Knee is still sore, but I am able to walk on it more normally now. The side of it hurts a bit to walk and I have noticed I need to be careful how I turn as it feels like something is trying to twist in the side of the knee, if that makes any since. Jeepers, from what you are saying that could be very true. Age will play out and not to the good. But the lawyers are always the ones who win anyway. I never realized you would have to go down the whole chain to get the house fixed. Not worth that. And at least now they are starting on the house to get somethings done. I just hope it all goes smoothly and fast. Becca Anne the mosquitos have gotten bad here as well. All the rain we have gotten hasn't help that situation. Rained here all-night last night into this morning. The mosquitos are really bad around here. Can't go outside early morning without getting bit nor in the early evening without getting bit.
  4. Not sure about being proactive, I just know what needs to be done. DH taught me a lot of things I never would have thought about. He was very good at stuff like that. Always seemed to know the right answers when things popped up. I am just trying to follow that.
  5. Green praying mantis live in bushes, flowers and such. The brown ones live on the tree trunks which are brown. That is the reason for the difference in colors. Though there are 25 different species of them. Never had one to bite me though. I am taking it easy today. Right now, my knee is not hurting. Only when I first get up from sitting. And that is localized to the side of my knee. I am thinking I may have a torn meniscus. Will just rest it and hope it will heal. I started taking Aleve over Advil and that seems to be helping better. Just doing small things around house today. Not taking any more chances on moving heavy things till I'm sure it has healed. You are right Jeepers, nothing worse than stepping in puppy pee in your bare feet. Been there done that. I love cats but can't do the little box thing anymore either.
  6. MidNightMom, yes just like that but a bit bigger than that picture. I have handled those things for years. Had one on the back porch baking in the sun and I put my hand down to it and it climbed right up on my hand, and I took it over the bushes in shade and let it jump off onto those. Many years ago, I had an ice plant I bought from the Williamsburg pottery. It had something on it and didn't know what it was. It sat on my kitchen counter for months. I came home from work one day and DD and DH had jars trying to catch baby praying mantis. Yep, that brown thing on the plant was a nest. We caught 100's of praying mantis and put them outside in bushes all over the place. I still see them at certain times of the year. And now I know what the nest looks like when I see them again. Got the den fully cleaned up, need to finish up in kitchen though. I did more than I should have with my knee. It is killing me again. Used heating pad for a while and that helped. Will take some Advil in a bit. Holding out on that till closer to bedtime. Will see how tomorrow goes. Lots of things around here to get done but thinking about moving the desk back to the bedroom in the morning.
  7. I have certain things that are going to each grandchild. DD said she doesn't want anything. That's her choice but I am sure there will be a few things she will take. I have pictures of what goes to who and it is all documented in my Trust. There might be some things I change over the course of a couple of years but for now it stands as is. DH and I both had a trust for a long time and now with him gone I had to go see a trust lawyer to have everything set up that works for me. So, everything is pretty much in order other than if I get down to where I can't do anything for myself. I will be working on that in a few months. Just need to check out my options.
  8. Jeepers, at least you do have your son to help you when he can. I have no one. My DD is in her own little world and only helps when she feels like it. I gave GS the loveseat and his father won't even help him to get it to his apartment. DD is coming back down in a couple of weeks to help GD with the baby's room but that is something she wants to do. Helping me paint or moving my desk and things back to the front bedroom is not something she wants to help me with. She calls that work. So, I will be moving that furniture by myself. I moved it out of that room to the living room to turn that bedroom into a guest room. But that didn't work out like I planned. Seems that room was a que for moving in on me. Fixed that issue. I don't mind them coming to visit but if they are coming to live then they need to learn that I am not the chief cook and bottlewasher. Nor the maid. I am working on cleaning up behind GS now. He left a mess and even found some of his clothes behind the couch when I moved it. Still have the main bathroom to scrub down as well GS is a messy child.
  9. From what I heard both of these hurricanes might back track and hit Florida again from the Atlantic side. From what I can tell for where I am, it might just be heavy rain and wind but even with that the low laying areas can flood. I am still going to be prepared as hurricanes are not always predictable. I'm watching the hurricane in Florida now. It has already slammed Florida as a cat 4. There might be a 16 ft. storm surge. That is bad. I pray that Kappy and Mary will be ok as well as everyone in the area of this storm.
  10. Miki so sorry the Dr. appt. didn't go well. It was nice of them to tell you the consult had expired after you sat there for 2 hours. These doctors are getting to be really bad for things. I hope the 3 new ones will work out better for me. Still waiting for them to call for the appointments. Will call them the first of week if I don't hear from them. Didn't mess with that front bedroom today. Instead, I decided to deep clean den and kitchen first. After having GS here for so long it was hard to get it all done. So, I have been moving furniture around and other things. Mopping floor and rearranged the furniture to work better for me. Still have some things to do but right now I need to rest my knee. I think I have stirred it up enough for one day. GS has interviews for a part time job. I knew he would figure it out sooner or later. Swept the front porch off and my praying mantis is still there. It was on the front porch. It has been hanging around for a couple of years now. It likes the rosemary bush and the Japanese maple trees. I think there is a nest in one of the maple trees. So, there should be baby praying mantis next year. Now that I am on a different computer, I am going to try to get pictures on here when I have more time. I just hope it works.
  11. It is sad that some things we have our children do not want but that is how it is these days. They want all new stuff. I know one of my GD's wants my jewelry. GS wants the tools and toolbox, and the GD in Washington wants my canning supplies. Big issue there is I am on the east coast and she on the west coast. So, unless she decides to move back this way it won't happen. So that will be left up to DD on what to do with it. Those will be the things I keep but so much is about to get dumped. Whatever is left they can fight over it. My GD that is here might want my sewing machine and sewing supplies as she is the only one that doesn't have one. But at least DD won't have to go through that picture above that is just so funny. I need to send that to my DD.
  12. Midnightmom, I have heard of that before. I will check it out. Thank you. Haven't heard from GS anymore so I am assuming he realizes he has to pay his own bills and not depend on anyone else. I never paid his bills but once and that was when he first moved here and had no job yet. After that he was on his own to pay them. Not a lot yet today. Went to pick up RX and came home trying to make a decision on that front bedroom. I really don't want to spend the money on a painter. So might just forego painting and clean down the walls really well and call it a day. Then move the furniture back into that room. No one will see it anyway but me. It's an office, sewing and craft room. So that is where I am now leaning. I just can't get motivated with this knee to paint it myself. Maybe sometime down the line I will get it done. But I think I am just tired both mentally and physically to get that job done. I just want to get the house back in order and organized. Still doing a lot of downsizing though. I have 4 pillows that I am trying to decide rather to keep or give to goodwill. Though I don't know if they would take them or not. Two lamps are going as GS didn't need those. He took the other two though. Looks like I am stuck with the loveseat as his dad will not help him to move it to the apartment, but when I go to buy new furniture, I will just get rid of it with the couch. I am not holding back on anything. It's got to go. Jeepers you are right about one thing. When your house is damaged by water it makes downsizing a breeze compared to what I am doing. The decision of rather I will need this or that down the line makes it harder. But have decided if I haven't used it in a year it's gone. DD is coming down in 2 weeks to help GD fix up the baby's room. I thought they were doing that while they were here this past weekend, but GD decided to paint the room first. So, they are going to help GD set up the crib and such. I saw where the Coast Guard is leaving to help out in Florida. Will have to find out if GD's DH is going to be heading out. If so, he will be gone for a while.
  13. Prayers to keep Kappy and Mary safe from this hurricane and anyone else that is in its path. Last I saw it was moving toward more toward the west. The Bay area will take less of the brunt of the storm. But will have flooding. Cedar Key is not looking good. Storm surge could be as high as 9ft. That is 2nd story. Clear Water affected also and that is where my DH's cousin lives. Also, Tallahassee and heading to Pan handle. It is going to be a lot of flooding out of this. As well as possible tornados. So Western Florida is where it is heading. From what the news is saying now.
  14. Jeepers, GS pulled it on his mom as well. He has the money; he doesn't want to use his money to pay his bills. But he will learn that living on your own, you have to learn how to save money when you want things. You can't have someone else pay your bills so you can use your money to go have a good time or buy something now that you want. He will learn how to save really fast. He is trying us now to see if we bite. I already told him if he gets kicked out for not paying rent that he is NOT moving back in my house. I really can't do it again. His working nights and me up during the day trying to clean house and do things I need to do can't get done as he was sleeping on the den couch. I would have to wait till he got up to get a lot of things done. I'm over that. Filled in the nail holes on walls from where pictures were hanging. Now just waiting for that to dry so I can sand it all down smooth. Then room will be ready to paint. I still need to go buy the paint. But will do that when I go pick up my RX from store. Just doing some light cleaning this morning. Taking a break right now. Trying not to push myself as right now my knee is just sore but not hurting. Shoulder is an off and on things and feels normal today with no pain. I think the shoulder might be bursitis or tendinitis. Whichever it is, it needs to clear up. Lots to get done in house. Will go outside in a while to check on garden and then pick up yard. Then check news on the hurricanes. I was hoping we would get lucky this year on those and not have any bad ones, but I am looking a Florida and that is not looking good. My doctor has the back of the building to himself for more room for the patients he used to have. On the front side of building there are 3 other doctors. They are all in together. There were a lot of cars there but where he is in back there were no patients anywhere. I went to get labs done a week ago and no patients. You can see his office when walking down the hall. He was in there. No doors closed showing there were any patients in the rooms either. Not sure what is going on but that was my last time going to him. I will be calling the new doctor to make appointment soon.
  15. I missed this somehow. Yes happy belated birthday. I hope you had a wonderful day.
  16. Yes, we now know Jeepers is a speed demon. We have no turn on red around here as well. One is further down the road at Driver and Bennett's pasture. Can't see cars coming for the trees. So, we cannot turn on red there. The other one is in a neighborhood near the fire station. That one has certain times that you cannot turn on red also. Never got a ticket, so I have been fortunate.
  17. It has been an unproductive day. Nothing got done in house today. Went to the doctor this morning and no patients in there. I was the only one. Told him about my knee and shoulder he did nothing. So here I am with a bum knee and shoulder and nothing for pain. No X-Ray nothing. Not even referral to orthopedic. I did get my referrals though. After I got home the nurse called wanting to know the phone number to the heart doctor I am trying to get established with. Totally wrong doctor. So, she did get that right. How did he get Dr. Ich out of Dr. Gupta is beyond me. But it's right now. Told him I stopped taking the Trulicity 2 months ago that it was all I could do to get out of bed in the mornings. Ok, nothing. I reminded him that 6 months ago we talked about it and he was just going to lower it. Well, my Thyroid went back down from 15.49 to 5.19 so it is now in limits. T4 went back into normal range as well. As for my A1C that went up to 7.1. So will work on that and see the new endocrinologist. Don't know what he will put me on but that's ok as long as it's not Trulicity. I have prescription pain meds and muscle relaxers from other times that I needed those. I didn't want to use them, but I came home and took one of each. Sat on couch and watched TV for a while then fell asleep. I woke just a little while ago. Didn't mean for that to happen. Got a kink in my neck from falling asleep on that couch. So, now I am dizzy again. It's coming from my neck. GS keeps texting me he doesn't have the first month's rent. I asked him several times if he had it and he said yes. He had paid the prorated amount from the 25 to the 1st of Sept. I think he thinks I will pay his rent. Not going to happen. He knew for 3 months he was moving and never saved a dime it seems. But the money went somewhere. But when I told him I had my own bills to pay and can't pay his rent he said I will be ok but it's the electric I can't pay. I said he's not paying that yet as he hasn't gotten a bill for it yet. I think he is just running scared but its, hard to say with him. Now the new threat it when I get kicked out, I am going to another state. Said that's fine, you will have no job, food or gas money. No comment from him. Told him he's not moving back here again. So, he best sink or swim. He doesn't want to spend his money on bills at all. If I pay his rent this time, he will be doing all this again next month. Not going to happen. What is it with kids these days? My knee and shoulder are both killing me this evening. Guess I best take another pain pill. I hate taken them as for one that was my emergency stash and two, they make me sleepy. But I need to do something. Thinking since Doctor didn't do a Phy. that I was due for, I will just call the new doctor and let him refer me to orthopedic. I hate having to change doctors, but I have no choice. He just doesn't listen anymore.
  18. Thank you MidnightMom. I DH and I have painted this house a few times but never with an 18-inch roller. I don't think I have seen those in the hardware stores. We always did the ceilings first and then trimmed out everything, and then painted the walls like they showed in the video. But with a 14-inch roller. We have always used the high-quality rollers and brushes. I am a bit picky on the brushes and rollers I use. Don't think I could handle an 18-inch roller. My issue is my hands are not steady anymore. So, trimming out where the ceiling and wall meet is my issue. My GD said she saw where they had things you can use to help keep a straight line. I need to head out to Lowe's, so going to see what they have. Though I don't buy my paint from there. I like Bear paint. It has the primer and all in it. Expensive but good paint. I have to go to Home Depot to get that. Otherwise, it would be Serwin Willams paint in the higher quality. As for the baseboards and around the doors, those are stained, and I want to paint those white. It is a 4-step process and would take me forever to get done. First you have to lightly stain it. Then put a glaze on there to break the stain, then the primer and then painting it. That is one of the big reasons I am torn as to hiring a painter or doing it myself. I am slower at it than I used to be and now with my knee I am thinking of just hiring a painter. Plus, I need to paint the front door. Still a lot to get done around here but will take it one day at a time. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow so will get my referrals, and results of lab work, and then will set up appointment with new doctor. I really need a good one. this one was great before Covid so don't know what happened after that. But a lot changed in that office with him.
  19. Jeepers, the only thing his parents did was to drop off the furniture with exception of the couch. Put the bed together and the legs back on the table and left. They did nothing other than that to help him get things organized and put away. Boxes that I had for him were marked as to which room it went into. When I went over there yesterday. Clothes in living room, dishes in bedroom etc. They wouldn't even put the boxes in the right room, and they were clearly marked. Half the kitchen stuff she gave him were trash left over from when the oldest child who is now in her 30's, It was all trashed. Only kept the good stuff from it and what new stuff she did buy for him. This is his first experience living on his own in his own place and was clueless as to what to do. I helped him with as much as I could and gave him some good advice on what to do. We had to get creative as the kitchen is nothing more than a closet. I have never seen a kitchen that small in my life. The microwave will half sit on kitchen table to use as if he puts it on the kitchen counter there won't be a counter to use at all. It is on the ODU college campus, and it set up for a dorm room. That was the reason for two huge closets in each bedroom. 2 college kids per room and not much else. Bathroom doesn't even have a medicine cabinet. But they rent to non-college people also. It was all he could find as everything near work had a 6 to 12 month waiting list. But the apartment overall is really cute. It will work out for him. Jeepers, I think it is time to line up a lawyer. Some will give a free consultation and then you can decide if you want to use that one or move on to another one. Kappy, I hope you aren't having anymore issues with neighbors' dogs. I hope everyone's heat wave is settling down now. It has been cooler here today. But if not try to stay hydrated and not get over heated. Mt. Rider, glad to see you back posting again. I know the fires in Maui have been hard on your whole family.
  20. That's a lot of excitement Jeepers. Glad it was contained. I just came in a while ago from garden. I decided knee or no knee I needed to get out there. So, I went hobbling out. Yes, my whole leg is hurting. 7 cucumbers, 1 green pepper but those are starting up again. Lots of small ones. 1 watermelon and a few okras. Got those all back to house and just chilling now waiting for DD to come by here to drop off GS's stuff she picked up. There was no microwave, so she is supposed to be going to Walmart this morning. He still needs help around the apartment. So, I guess knee or no knee I will have GS pick me up and we will go back to his apartment and work. Then I will take him to dinner after we are done. After DD leaves, I might go get the right type of curtain rods that we need for curtains and then get him a nicer set of dishes. DD packed up from her house a bunch of plastic bowls with paper glued to them. They look like they melted or something. So, in my book they are useless. He needs a set of dishes. A set of 4 should be fine. I don't think he will be having a lot of friends over living in Norfolk and friends living in Smithfield and Suffolk. But things can change. I am just going to clean up kitchen today and then call it a day. Will sit on couch with heating pad on knee. Unless I end up for sure at GS's apartment. And more than likely I will be there this afternoon. GD's baby shower was fun. She got a lot of stuff for both baby and for her. GS got her a shirt that said Mommy monogramed on it. Really pretty and the baby a few things as well. The shower was not the traditional baby shower. No games, just food, sitting around chatting and then opening gifts after everyone was done eating and then some drawings on who could guess how big mama's belly was. Yes, I won. Then others like guess the date the baby will be born. That will be drawn when the baby is born. And then others as well. I won 2 of the drawings. Then after that the party was over and some people left and some of the family stayed a bit longer. I left with GS so we could get to his apartment and get him set up enough to be able to stay there last night. He needed to go by Cox for his internet set up before they closed as well. So, we stopped by their first on the way to his apartment. He then bought me home but had him stop to fill his tank; he was half full but for me half full is empty. Still, it cost him $30. Then we went and got some dinner. Then back to my house where he got the last of his food in car and went home. I set down for a while and put heating pad on knee. Then went to bed. Tired was an understatement. I was exhausted. Not used to that kind of work and having to climb steps to his apartment was no fun.
  21. GS stayed at his apartment last night. He is excited and doing well. DD And SIL were suppose to help him get curtains up and stuff but all they are doing is helping GD then dropping off things at my house instead of GS apartment for me to take to him. I can barely walk and it is my right knee. Hurts to drive distance. And GS is using My EZ pass till he can get his. So don't have the EZ pass for tunnel right now. I stayed home from church today as DD hasn't given me a time as to when she will be by here. Everything is on her schedule and no one else's schedule matters. Nor does the fact I am having to hold on to things to get around on my knee. Dr. Appointment tomorrow.
  22. Emojis are a good thing. Though I don't know what all of them stand for. Guess I am just not into the computer thing as much. I really don't keep up with a lot of things like that. But I do use them sometimes.
  23. Kappy, glad those dogs couldn't get to the chickens. And glad they didn't turn on you and Mary. It's good to know the police knew who those dogs belonged to. Sounds like someone else has been complaining. Hope whoever owns them will now contain them and keep them home. Glad you found some good sales on meat. That will help a lot this winter.
  24. Jeepers there is no excuse for how that insurance company is treating you. It's bad enough you have a bank holding your money. You may be having to get a lawyer before this is over. Baby shower was great. We had a wonderful time. DD and SIL are staying there again tonight but I don't think they are going over to GS's apartment to help him to finish getting apartment set up. The love seat is still here, and his dad has no plans to help him get it over to him. So that will have to wait till another weekend unless we can figure another way to get it to him. After GS and I left when party was over, we went to his apartment to get things put away and get him set up. Got bed made up. And all the linens put in linen closet and then he worked on his game room/office while I worked on kitchen. It is a very small kitchen, so was hard to figure things out. But we are getting there. Will be going back tomorrow to help him hang curtains and such. Or at least I hope we can do that. His mother took some old curtain rods over there and just dropped them. I don't think those are going to work on those windows. But will see what we can do. Otherwise, will have to buy new curtain rods. I found an extra foot stool that I am going to give him. He's going to need it as the closet shelves are high up. He has 2 huge closets in each bedroom. A lot of what his mother gave him is useless and gave him a bunch of huge pots instead of just pots he can cook for one person with. He's not going to use those pots to cook big meals with. I might just buy him the pots he needs a little later. Hoping we can finish getting him set up tomorrow. I am beat and my knee and shoulder are both killing me. GS bought me back home and I saw his car was half full, so I filled his car up and then we went and got something to eat. He is staying at apartment for first time tonight. He is really excited about having his own place now.
  25. Will be leaving in an hour or so to head to baby shower. Then after will be going with GS to his apartment to help him finish getting settled in. Only piece of furniture he couldn't get on truck was the love seat, but he does have a recliner that his mother gave him. So, he has that till he and his dad can get couch to him. He can make do till then. I am looking at everything I will need to do as soon as the rest of GS's stuff is out of house. Not sure where I want to start yet, but might just deep clean main bathroom, den, kitchen and my bedroom now that all the baby things are out of my bedroom and in car. It will be easier to clean floors and dust now. Then get that bedroom painted and all the sewing, desk, etc. back into the front bedroom and get it all set up. Then clean-living room and get the hall and living room painted. By then it should be cooler weather enough to tackle the garage. Lots to do in there. Lots to give to Goodwill as well. Downsizing will soon be in full force. Jeepers, I hope everything at your house will be fine. Just glad they are going to be starting full force on your house soon. That must have been some storm. I'm sure the rain was needed but not the rest of it. I am going to have a long tiring weekend, DD and SIL will be leaving Sunday evening. Then come Monday my work begins. Can't wait to get started on house. It's been a long time coming.
