  1. Yes, it was 2 dressers and a TV stand. It took forever but I did get it. That was the rest of my bedroom suit. The only room in the house that is now fixed up. My pantry was all fixed up and clean but had to stack books in there and then drag a bookcase in there as well. But That will be an easy fix once I get that bedroom done. That is the bookcase that is going in the closet. Waiting for paint to dry as I have to figure out how to get those 2 long wire shelves out. Too hard to paint the upper part of the closet with those in there. Jeepers, I think we have both had our patients tried and have learned skills we never thought we would need. Problem solving is a must. And decision skills are now getting really honed in. It has been years since I have painted a room. But glad I can still do it. Getting that project started was slow going but once I got started it was moving right along. Now to figure out those 2 shelves. They must come out.
  2. Miki, I will be so nice to have my house back. It has been well over 3 years with one or the other moving in or out. I haven't been able to really clean this house like it needs. But it won't be much longer. The desk my DD ordered for GS arrived this afternoon. So now that is sitting in the foyer. Nice, I can barely get through to the front door. Gotta love it. Got the closet painted below the 2 top shelves. So just have to get on step stool to reach above the shelving. That is going to be fun. I couldn't get the shelves down. Don't know how DH had put them up there and they are the wire ones. He might have them screwed in on the sides. Will be able to see what is going on once I can get the foot stool out of the living room and to the bedroom. Hoping I can get them out. But right now, waiting for walls to dry below the shelves first. Had a couple of interruptions while painting. My financial planner called and said he never got the signed papers nor the voided check that I sent him 2 weeks ago. So, had stop painting in hopes the brushes didn't dry up and print out another copy and pull out another check to take to UPS to fax to him. So here I am in old beat-up clothes I wear for painting and crafts and even though I washed my hands I had paint on them still. Ran down to the UPS store got them faxed and I know I must have looked like a site for sore eyes. My arm is starting to hurt up near the shoulder so needed the break right now. Took Advil trying to get a head start on it. But at least my neck is not hurting now. I am thinking I might have bursitis or tendinitis again. So might just need to take the Advil or something for inflammation for a few days instead of only when it starts hurting. I might still have some antinflamatory pills left from before. Will need to check on that. I know I need to do something. Just trying to not have to see doctor sooner as I have an appointment next month anyway.
  3. Waiting for traffic to die down and for T-Mobile to open so I can go turn in my old phone. I got the Z-flip phone, and it is a nice one. I think I will like this one much better than the old one. When I get back, I will start painting the closet. Just have to change clothes and put on my old painting clothes. I think they have every color we ever painted the house on them. The closet is ready for paint, it's just the painting and letting it dry now. Then I can start working on that room and getting it ready for painting. Though I will hire someone to do that part. Might have to wait till GS moves out though as he sleeps on the couch in den. I don't need people going back and forth through the den while he sleeps. But he will be in his own apartment on the 25th. So not that much longer.
  4. Didn't get the closet painted today. Woke up with my neck all messed up as well as my shoulder. Went to put my shoes on and got really dizzy. Room spinning around was really bad. Got neck straightened out again but took most of the day to do it. I can now turn it in both directions and shoulder is still sore but not hurting as bad. Tomorrow is another day. I think I must have slept on it wrong. I've done that before but not this bad. Everyone must be having a busy day. Hope the week goes well for everyone.
  5. Sounds like you had a nice trip Jeepers. I can't wait to get this house back together and take off for a few days. I really want to head up to Madison Hights and Lynchburg area to visit with my cousins. We are all up in age now and haven't seen each other in a long while. Hopefully in September I can make that trip. Next year when GS gets a vacation, he wants me to go with him to the mountains. Just might take him up on that. But will see what happens next year.
  6. I agree Jeepers I think it is a woman thing. I let myself go while taking care of my DH. Wasn't the best thing to do but he came first in my book. And I don't regret it. Went to Home Depot and got the paint for the bedroom closet. I got a gal. since I do have other closets I will be painting at a later date. 2 hall closets that also have never been painted but I won't have to do all that work to prepare them for painting like I did the bedroom closet. That closet was the worst. Loaded with nail holes. I still need to sand down where I filled those in, and I think I will be read to paint after that. On the way home I found a new Thrift store I am going to check out later. Didn't look like it had been there long. So might be interesting to see what they have. Went to Hallmark to pick up a couple of things I wanted for baby shower. Then came home and rested a bit and have now started dinner. That is in oven so should be ready in about an hour. Might go ahead and sand down the closet after dinner and kitchen is cleaned back up. Shouldn't take that long to get that done and then vacuum up the mess. Jeepers, glad you made it home safe and hope you got a lot done at the new house. Sometimes I feel like I am the one moving with my house being overrun by everyone else's stuff. But just 2 more weeks and I will have my house back. I am so ready.
  7. Mt. Rider, that is a very dangerous situation to be in. I am grateful that your family was spared for the most part. I know you have friends there as well, and hope that they too are doing ok. I am sure that some of them lost homes or had damage to those homes, but the main thing is they are all doing ok. Houses and things can be replaced and though it is hard to lose things in fires like that, we all must remember that things can be replaced. It's the people we need to be praying for. Still praying for all the people in Maui. I know it will be some tough times going forward but all will come together for them in the end.
  8. That Tromboncino squash is something else. I picked 4 more about 2 ft. long. I had to move the small green house as it was growing up and all around that. Couldn't get to the squash for the greenhouse. The plants are overloaded, and it is only 2 plants. I am going to be working on a better trellis for it in the early fall. Got everything transferred to my new phone. Just have to turn in my old phone. Still need to go to T-Mobile and Home Depot and I don't have the energy to go. My DD has kept me on phone most of the morning. We are making the arrangements to get GS moved into his apartment. I can't wait to get everyone's stuff out of my house. It is everywhere and DD ordered a desk for GS that will be staying in my house for a week before he moves. I don't know where I will be able to put it. But will figure it out. I feel like I have a hoarder's house right now with all of GS's stuff boxed up everywhere and DD has a couple of boxes here also. Just sitting at desk drinking a cup of coffee and texting back and forth with DD. She is trying to get everything she has for GS packed and on trailer for the 25th when he moves out. They are keeping the trailer in garage so all they will have to do on the 25th is hook up and pull out to come here. I guess I should just go ahead and take down the greenhouse for hurricane season. I don't want it to get torn up. It's old but still works.
  9. Don't feel like I did a lot today, but I did. Checked garden and picked squash, tomatoes, okra, eggplant, cucumbers. Then came in and got that all taken care of and then went and worked on the bedroom closet getting it ready for painting. Had several holes to fill in and letting that dry overnight and then in the morning I will sand it all down smooth. Then GS and I will go to T-Mobile to turn in my old phone and then off to Home Depot. I like their paint better than Lowes. I have a list of things I will need for garden. Fertilizer, topsoil, garden soil and such. Need to go to Halmark also to pick up something there. Then maybe GS and I will go to lunch and then home. I should be able to start the painting tomorrow afternoon. Since it is just the closet it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to paint and clean up after. I now have enough squash to can up so will be getting that done also. tomorrow. Going to be a very busy day. So will hopefully get an early start on it. GS moves into his apartment in 2 weeks and then I can get the rest of my house back together. Once everything is back in place and cleaned up then I will be furniture hunting for both Livingroom and den furniture. Then GS can take that other couch for his apartment if he wants it. I have so much to catch up on that I think it will be a busy winter for me. But at least the garden will be done. I was going to try a winter garden this winter but will just wait till next winter for that as I just have to much on my plate right now for that. It is hard enough keeping up the yard and the house right now. And the garden was not as big this year so not as much to deal with there. Next spring will be a whole new ballgame for me. So, no kids moving in and out house will be back together before then. And I can concentrate more on the yard and a bigger garden. I did open the big garden this past spring but mostly planted squash as that was the only thing, I was really low on. If I can get 10 to 12 quarts of squash from this picking that will give me about 20 to 22 jars of squash to last till planting season next year. Trying to figure out my plans now so I will be much better off when spring planting comes around again.
  10. Wow! Kappydell. Seems you have a crazed neighbor hat doesn't like animals. Mainly cats. I hope you don't have any more issues with that neighbor. He sounds like trouble. Annarchy, I know what you mean about the younger ones moving in. We had one that wanted to start an HOA around here. That got nipped in the bud real fast. Not going to happen. Had one neighbor come up to me last year and asked me why I didn't complain about another neighbor putting things on her front door railing to dry. Just told her it wasn't my business what she did, and I don't pay attention to what the other neighbors or doing. She said I should say something to her. Told her she seemed to be the only one complaining and that if she didn't like it then she should tell her how she feels about it. I'm several doors down from this lady and I can't see her front porch for the trees. Stopped that one real fast also. New neighbors move in and try hard to take over. Us old folks are not so old that we can't remember how things used to be. Good neighbors and everybody minded their own business. Though we did have a couple of issues and they moved away. Wonder why. Seems it doesn't matter where you live there will always be that someone that can't get along with others. Annarchy, we have already been through what you are going through with the building of expressways and such. We now have Harborview, much more traffic, a 4-lane highway that was once an old country road. And the building hasn't stopped. It's everywhere here. But for some reason I can't bring myself to move from this house. I like my neighbors, and this is the house my DH had when we got married. Lived here the whole time. I guess there are just too many memories to just up and leave. Lots of good times in this old house. We even got married in this house.
  11. Just finding out about this. Mt. Rider so glad your family is ok. It will take a long while for them to get over the shock of it. But life is more important right now. My step GD in CA, her husband's parents live in Maui. But not sure where. So haven't heard anything from them or if his parents might have been in their summer home in CO. They move back and forth between winter and summer. So, hoping they were in CO but know nothing of rather they still have their home or not. This is really bad. Those fires and the hurricane with it were not good. Just hope and pray everyone is ok. I know there were some lives lost but praying there won't be anymore lost.
  12. Chickens are now producing eggs for you Becca Anne. That is great. Hope they produce a lot of them so you can save on feed. Miki. Sounds like you are having it easy for a couple of days. That is great. I left early this morning to go to Doller Tree and Then Harris Teeter to pick up RX. Was going to a couple of other places but it started raining. Need to make a trip to Home Depot. But that will be another day now. I am working on bedroom closet and have some small holes to fill in so will be doing that in a bit. Needed some sandpaper to sand a couple of places down smooth in closet but that will have to wait now till I can get to Home Depot. Got part way home and traffic was stopped. Must have been a wreak on the Carrollton bridge again. So had to sit and wait it out a bit. But wasn't as bad of a wait as I have had in the past. This area is really bad for traffic these days. Not much activity on here of late. Guessing everyone is really busy right now. I think Jeepers is in Indy this week. Have a safe trip back home Jeepers. Hope you get a lot done at the new house and enjoying Your GS also.
  13. Wow Miki, taking Oreo to the vet is an adventure. Poor thing doesn't like doctors. But he needs to go at times. Glad that is over for you, and he is doing better today. I had a cat like that, and I just popped her on the rear and made her behave. But then cats are sometimes easier to control than a dog. With my other cat that never gave the vet any issues decided one day he wasn't coming out of the cage he was in. They came to get me to get him out and they don't normally allow anyone in that area. But he would not budge and tried biting them. I just opened the cage and popped him on the rear turned him around and pulled him out and he then calmed down. Animals are funny sometimes. Been working on the now empty bedroom and closet. I am going to be painting the closet myself as if I just paint the whole closet white, I won't have to worry about cutting in and trim work. Will hire a painter to paint the bedroom though. My hands are not sturdy enough for the trim anymore. And they would be faster than me anyway. My plan was to put all three bookcases in that bedroom closet but will now have to go to plan B. Two of the bookcases are too tall unless I take out the top shelve, and I don't want to do that. So will have the one in there that really doesn't match anything anymore as I don't have that old desk it went with any longer. That was a wraparound desk and it finally fell apart. Guess It got moved one time to many. Was up till after 3 am working on the fridge in garage. Seems the defrost stuck and I had to move everything to the cooler. GS came home from work and thought someone had broken into the house. He heard me in kitchen bagging up ice for cooler and thought we had an intruder as I am usually in bed before he gets home. So, he went to 7 11 and got a bag of ice for me. After he realized it was me. He was about ready to come in kitchen from garage and hurt someone. At least he's being protective. Anyway, I moved what meat that was in there to the big chest freezer and then defrosted and got the ice out of bottom of freezer. I didn't lose any food as I caught it all in time. Though there is not a lot in that freezer. But GS had bought some hamburger and put it in there. So that and some other things are now in the big freezer. I will just leave it in that one. I will be defrosting that freezer in the fall when it gets cooler. Have chicken in oven cooking for dinner for GS tonight. Fixing him some fried okra as well. Okra is out of garden and is now slowing down. But got enough for fried okra tonight. Hope everyone is doing ok now with all the issues some are having. We all need to stay healthy these days.
  14. Annarchy, praying still that all is going well with your DH and yourself. It's good to be taken care of each other. Wives do tend to forget to take care of ourselves when we are taking care of our husbands. I did that and still paying that price. But I would do it all over again if I had to. Mother is right you are in the middle of a medical Delima right now. No humor like Jeepers had. But things will turn around for the good. My next-door neighbor is out of the crises he was in and is now doing better. My neighbor called me yesterday and said he will be in hospital a few more days and then off to rehab. They broke through the blockage and the ulcer has stopped bleeding. So now needing that ulcer to heal. He's still not eating much but at least he is out of danger. That man really does have 9 lives like a cat. He has had many health issues that almost took his life. He made it through this one also. God really does answer prayers. But also knowing that when it is time to go home God will call you up. Finished getting the rest of the stuff out of the closet in bedroom and now to get that wire shelving out. Then I am going to paint that closet and remove the doors. Going to put all 3 of the bookcases in there. And make that closet out as part of the room instead of a closet. I hate sliding doors and will eventually replace all of those doors with something much better. Cleaned the kitchen early this morning and checked on garden. Will pick okra this evening. Tomatoes will need picking tomorrow. Some are getting there again but not quite ready to pick. That Tromboncino squash is loaded. Will need to go out and pick all that as well. Will post about what I have learned more of on the Challenge post.
  15. Mt. Rider, with all you have been through I think you should treat yourself to a new pair of shoes. Glue and duct tape only go so far. But we might all have to resort to that one of these days.
  16. Kids were here shortly after nine this morning and got the bedroom suit out of house. GS was still up, and he helped to move it. So had 3 guys moving it instead of just 2. I dusted and cleaned the room really well but not putting any furniture in there till painted. I picked out the paint colors for the bedroom, hall, foyer, living room and dining room. So now all I need is the painter. Hope to find one this week. I now have a box spring sitting in my foyer blocking entrance to living room. DD is picking that up at some point but needs to be moved somewhere else at this point. I might have to just get the bedroom painted so I can get my desk, sewing machine and bookcases in that room and then wait till GS moves out with his stuff so I can get the rest of the rooms painted. The only room I won't paint other than the woodwork is my pantry. That was the last room DH and I had painted, and it was only about 6 years ago. So, it is still fine. I hate trying to do a paint pallet that flows with the whole house. But I got it figured out. I think GS is getting a bit nervous about moving into his own place. He's never really had responsibilities like that before, but he will learn. He has to start somewhere. And he knows where his mother and I am if he needs anything or help with something.
  17. Got everything moved out of the way for the kids to get the bedroom suit out of that bedroom. They will be here at 9:30 in the morning. After they are gone, I will take down the blinds and get those washed and wash the windows. Then clean, dust and mop the floor. That was the room GS was using before he moved out the end of May. So, it does need a deep clean. Then paint. Just don't know what color yet. Looking at my paint charts. My room is a bluish grey and the small bedroom is blue and only the woodwork needs painting in the small bedroom. So, wanting a color that will fit in between the blue gray and the blue. If that even makes any since. Going to paint hall and foyer the same as the den. It is a light color. The fun of putting house back together will soon begin.
  18. Euphrosyne, from what I have read about it in the medical journals, it is not an allergic reaction or headaches you get from it. It can be one of the root causes of diabetics and other illnesses. What it seems to cause on some people is a disease and not so much an allergic reaction. It takes a long while to build up in your system. Some people won't have that issue but more people than not will. I would hate to have that reaction to poison ivy. I have had it but just external itching with a small breakout of hives. I can't imagine having internal issues from it. That has got to be miserable.
  19. Annarchy, for your DH to be ok. Midnightmom, that is the best information yet. I have looked up a lot of things on it but none of it said it would turn yellow. I picked the two long ones while green. One was about 6ft. long and the other about 4ft. long. Now I know to wait till they turn yellow. The vines are loaded and it's only 2 plants. I have been canning squash for years but this being different I wasn't sure. But will wait till they turn yellow to pick now that I know what to do. Washed clothes early this morning and cleaned main bathroom. Just taking a break right now as I am dragging today, and it seems to be taken forever to get things done. It's been raining off and on all through last night and so far, all morning. Could be why I am dragging. No sunshine today. Just a dreary day today. But we need the rain. So not complaining. Hoping my other squash will make another come back. Glad I picked those tomatoes and checked everything else yesterday.
  20. Glad Peanut is doing much better. Milk thistle is good for people also. I take it. Good for the liver. I fried up that Tromboncino squash. Either the guy at the market told her wrong about letting it get up to 5 or 6 ft. long was wrong or it just doesn't have much of a taste to it. It's not like yellow squash. It's not bad but I am going to do what the guy in another neighborhood told my neighbor. Pick it at about one or two feet long. So, I will be picking it tomorrow. There are several of them on the vines. Not going to can these as I don't know enough about them. But if needed I will freeze or just as they said leave them on the counter as they last a year like that. Seems to me it would be something you would put in a root cellar. Kitchen would be too hot. So, going to put on dining room table. Going to research this squash more for best storage and recipes. My neighbor grilled hers and she said it had no taste. I fried mine and it had some taste but not a lot. It definitely does not taste like yellow squash but more like a very mild butternut squash. This is a learning experience for sure. But a fun one.
  21. I have known about this for a long, long time. If I do go to a Chinese place, I tell them no MSG. They are famous for using that. GMO is in everything here. I think it has been banned in a lot of other countries. It is one of the reason's I have a garden and use organic where I can. It's not easy to move away from those products as it is in everything here in the USA. And is a huge cause of a lot of illnesses as well. Good for the pharmaceutical companies though. They love it. Even things like Equal, Splenda and such has bad chemicals in them. Diet coke has it, as well as many other diet drinks and foods that diabetics depend on to cut their sugar intake. Only thing is they are doing more harm to themselves than if just using a natural sweetener. But I doubt a lot of people know about the natural sweeteners.
  22. I don't think GS meant for that to happen. It was the paper carton of milk, and he didn't know it would leak. The top was on tight but on those cartons, they still leak around the cap. Sorry to hear about your friend going into hospice Ambergris. Seems there is just too much death happening these days. I have known these neighbors for over 40 years. In our younger days we used to take trips together. Florida as he has a house there and the last one being in New Jersey to the casinos. After the last one my DH had a stroke and then my neighbor had some issues and surgery. She did good from all that but seems their health was going down as well as my DH's health. So, we just didn't make any trips anymore. They haven't even been to the house they own in Florida now in several years. They have someone taken care of it for them and they rent it out at times.
  23. Miki, hope all went well with your DH and the antibiotics heals him up fast. Jeepers, have a safe trip to Indy. Have some fun while you are there. Don't work too hard and wear yourself down. Becca Anne, I have a lot of ripe tomatoes again today. So will be going out later to pick them. Got up this morning, got dressed, made bed, then walked into kitchen to make a cup of coffee. My bad. I opened the fridge and milk was everywhere. So, first thing I had to do was clean up the fridge. Seems GS put a carton of milk on its side, and it leaked out all over the shelf and down to the next shelf. Had to pull everything out and clean out the fridge. What a mess. Milk on the bottom of a lot of things. Dripping on floor as I was pulling stuff out. But it is all clean now. I will have to let him know when he wakes up not to put those cartons of milk on their side after he opens one. So that is how my morning went. I did get my coffee. Just later in the day. My next-door neighbor called me yesterday evening and said her DH is back in hospital. I just saw him the other day sitting out in front yard reading the newspaper. He is very frail and weak. Found out he has a huge ulcer that is bleeding, and he is too weak and frail to do surgery. It is blocking his intestines. They said if they operate that more than likely in his condition it will kill him and suggested that she bring him home and make him comfortable. Don't think he will make it through this time. He is the one that had throat cancer and had to use a feeding tube for a couple of years and ended up on dialyzes for a while as well. And an issue with his jawbone that kept bleeding and he would have to go to ER to stop the bleeding. They were trying to get him stronger for surgery for that as well. But he just keeps getting weaker. Praying for the family and hoping that somehow, he will get through this. He has been through a lot, and I know he is suffering now. So right now, I am on house sitting duty for her. Her GS lives with her, but she doesn't trust that he will close and lock door when he leaves for work, so I go over to make sure door is locked and just keep a general eye on the house for anything unusual. We are in a safe neighborhood so far so hoping nothing happens in that respect.
  24. Jeepers, I agree with Mother. You could write a book about all the crazy things in your life. It should be a really great seller. People these days need that laughter.
  25. Miki, God does work in mysteries ways. Glad you were close enough to be able for you and Peanut to walk home. Everything worked out well. Glad your friend was ok. Annarchy, I like the French doors on that stove. Mine is the one that the door just drops down from top to bottom. They didn't have the French doors when I got mine. You will find yourself using it a lot. Washed towels this morning and emptied dishwasher. Then went out to garden. Seems the crook neck squash is making a comeback. Picked enough squash for dinner tonight or tomorrow, 3 cucumbers that I thought those plants were done, and more okra. Tomatoes are now getting ripe so will be working with those soon. I want to try out that new squash so might just cook some of that tonight and just get the other ready for freezer for now. GS is in kitchen working on the 10lbs of hamburger he bought. He's cooking some up to eat now and to take with him for dinner at work. That stuff he bought in the tube is 27% grease. I will be cleaning kitchen up this evening. He's not too good at cleaning up the grease. But he will learn.
