Make Your Own Vanilla Extract or Vanilla Powder

Not sure anyone has posted these. Did a search and couldn't find it. As costly as these are right now, might be cheaper to make your own.

 

VANILLA POWDER

• 1/4 cup confectioners sugar

  1 vanilla bean

Grind bean and blend with sugar in a small coffee grinder. The flavor increases with time.

Use just like vanilla extract, measurement per measurement.

 

VANILLA EXTRACT

 

Place a split bean in a jar containing 3/4 cup vodka, seal and let stand for six months.

 

To store beans you aren't going to use right away, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, place in and airtight jar and refrigerate.

Do you have to refridgerate the vanilla extract?

It's mostly vodka. Doesn't require refrigeration, but might last longer.

6 parts vanilla vodka

1 part Cointreau

1 part dry vermouth

Vanilla bean

 

Combine liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with cracked ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with vanilla bean.

 

For medicinal purposes of course
