NanaX2
I've canned pork tenderloin before but am wondering if ham will work being canned? If so, do you bake it as normal and then can it? I looked in the Ball book and didn't see ham listed and I checked So Easy to Preserve and ham was not listed specifically but general pork is listed. Ham is on a super sale this week and I did want to take advantage of it , if possible, Thanks for your assistance! Link to comment
Violet
Not typically, since they often have milk derivitaves and things not safe for canning. Better freeze the ham.. There are older posts about canning ham. Sorry, I am swamped with things and not much time to reply as I would like. Link to comment
Cat
A lot of times ham just doesn't have the same flavor after canning. Link to comment
Virginia
Agree with Cat on that one. Before coming here, I canned some very good ham from time to time. It was never very satisfactory except to put in a casserole or something, and then only fair tastewise. Link to comment
Amishway Homesteaders
we take extra ham we have and chop it up before freezing, that way when we want to make something like scalluped potatoes with ham (great in crockpot) all we have to do is take out 1 packet of ham and add it to the pot. Dave Digs Dirt
Agree with the previous posts. Tried it and it is a waste of good ham - canning it that is. Link to comment
mishbloom
ROTFL!! Do you know--the old canning ham threads were what brought me to Mrs. Survival in the first place! I Googled "canning ham"...up popped the link...and here I am! It was my hubby's birthday even! Link to comment
