  1. They called for rain tonight but here I sit Dry as a bone? Had a nice 'day trip' today visiting different Amish Shops in area (120 miles). Everywhere we went they were talking about how dry it is and IF we don't get long rain soon.......................
  2. Thanks - I was thinking about this as well and here is the answer.
  3. well now I though SHE was going to be on one of them?
  4. by the way................................ saw her book but can't 'knidle' so I went to Library Systems Webpage and one of the Libraries had it! So I inner-Library Loaned it and it will be here next week. Nice to be able to 'visit' 42 Libraries without movig from computer. Other system has like 64 Libraries I can get from.
  5. For the most part............................. Soap is soap is soap! In a pinch you can wash whatever with whatever you have on hand. Yes hair shampoo may have 'special' stuff in it for conditioning but in a pinch................. IF you want a laugh go read the very old P & G soap wrapper. It lists all the things it will clean from dishes to rugs to hair to bath with to walls to kids to floors to clothes and on an don and on.
  6. Love the Dilly Beans! And here is a hint for all who are canning this year...................... IF you are trying a new recipe this year - make a copy of it or write down where you got it. (We have a little photo album that we put ALL recipes we used this year Old and new and list what we used it for and dates canned) That way when we start to use them come the winter or next year IF it didn't do as good as we were hoping, we can go back and see what we did and cross that recipe out (but keep it so we don't use it again. Have one you really liked when you used the first few cans? Take the time to add a little not to that recipe page about what you liked. This way Next Year you will only be canning the BEST of the Best!
  7. well now ....................... a dead micowave oven can STILL be of some use? and the older ones were much bigger then the ones I se today. I will have to keep an eye out for one? Thanks PS I take it you are taping over the hole where the plug when into it?
  8. THAT was what we got last night! It Looked like it would rain? It sounded like thinder? it looked like wind was picking up. Heard the rian fall for maybe 30 seconds. I went outside to see and it was so hot out that whatever fell dried up in seconds. and nothing in rain gauge? Time for the rain dance- I will try ANYTHING to make it rain!
  9. I agree 20% means it will NOT rain here! The ground is so dry even IF we get rain most of it will just be 'run-off' as no time to soak into ground. What we need is a l o n g s l o w rain or rain for more then one day in 3 weeks!
  10. signed up for it? we will see what they send out.
  11. you got me good! Saw your post : "Little House has a series" and I was like DUH!!!! EVERYBODY knows that Little House was on TV for YEARS! Then I went to link............................... OH!
  12. speaking of drive ups..................... One thing I used to do when in NYC was when we got to the toll booth tell the person (toll taker) we are paying for both cars, the one we are in plus the other car behind us that has family in it. Then we take off while the car behind us 'tries' to catch up to see WHO payed their toll!
  13. every year it seems the weather is getting worse around here so maybe this will be the way to go?
  14. I don't want to say THINGS ARE BAD BUT....................... Thunder sounds about 10:30 last night then wind picked up. Started to drizzle a bit but not enough rain for a millipede to wash his feet in! It is so dry around here that you kick up dust when you walk in garden. Grass is drown and DEAD! Flowers droop each day I don't water them, Heat is so high people are being told to not be outside during the day! Farmer Market is down as most of them are in parking lots and it is just too hot for people to be out there shopping! They are just coming in, grabbing what they need and leaving.
  15. I guess we are very Lucky as we have many Amish Friends so we will just go there? As for cooking and putting food by without electricity? Well again we kindda are doing it that way now. For me anyway living like we do now I think that there will not be much change in the way we live other then all the people that will come our way to ask .......................... Now WHAT was it you were saying last year?
  16. I LOVE drive ups! My best in the last few months has been to listen to what they say to the car ahead........................ Then when I get to the speaker repeat it before they can. "Hi, welcome to McDonalds what can I get for you today?" Silence. Then a giggle and start over.
  17. Know what you mean.................................. Caught 4 woodchucks so far this year in live-trap and then went for a ride out into the country. They are eating everything this year seeing they can’t find food out in the wild due to no rain. I have had to replace things like cabbage, broccoli, lettuce, Brussels sprouts, etc. 3 times because they are eating things right down to ground! Luck that I can catch they fast right after I see the damage in the morning ( I use cantaloupe pieces). The last one was out there in the middle of the day and after I chased him , put out trap and had him in15 minutes!

  19. jingle: Bryl-creem, a little dab'll do ya,: Use more, only if you dare,: But watch out,: The gals will all pursue ya,
  20. think of it as doing 'outreach programing' for this forum when you are helping others on the radio! They may not be able (or are ready) to come here so You are the tie that binds! BUT you better come back here more often then once a year!
  21. ................................... See you never know who will need a bit of cheer, so when my heart said to post this I NEVER even questioned it. I am just a servant doing what he tells me to do wherever and whenever.
  22. Don't Quit When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all up hill, When the funds are low and the debts are high And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out; Don't give up though the pace seems slow-- You may succeed with another blow, Success is failure turned inside out-- The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far; So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-- It's when things seem worst that you must not quit. - Edgar A. Guest
  23. Never tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon.
  24. My sister has a lifesaving tool in her car designed to cut through a Seat belt if she gets trapped. She keeps it in the trunk. My friends and I were on a beer run and noticed that the cases were discounted 10%. Since it was a big party, we bought 2 cases. The cashier multiplied 2 times 10% and gave us a 20% discount. I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went To the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags Never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a Trained professional and I was in good hands. "Now," she asked me, has your plane arrived yet?" While working at a pizza parlor I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some time before responding. "Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry enough to eat 6 pieces."
