  1. If you do cook it and eat it and then get sick ........................... One of the best things to eat after you get sick would be chicken soup. OH , Never mind. Sorry, just trying to make a funny. BUT, as others have said- better safe then sorry. So, IF you think it might be bad, then it might be. So lose the small amout of money you paid for it or eat it and then spend $$$$$ trying to get better?
  2. a guest room ............................................. Have you started taking bookings yet? Please put us on the list! Don't know how we will get there but I miss the Ocean! (spent some of my 'younger' day living on Fire Island)
  3. only ten? On The L.I.E. (NY/ long Island) THAT is the norm! how about 1/2 to 1 MILE of trafic and you are moving at 10 mph IF you are moving at all. Did that for a few years when I live on the Island and work in NYC.
  4. ...........................men! (and Boys!)
  5. way to go! Just remember that the stuff you freeze will come out all mush - BUT stilll good in soup and to make bread. Ain't no way you are gonna be ablr to grill it! and doesn't it taste so much better when you grew it!

  8. Not just bad beer , Arby but................................... Bad IRISH Beer !
  9. nothing better then home-made cookies fresh out of the oven! and a cold glass of Farm Fresh Milk.
  10. For us anyway being that neither one of us uses salt to flavor food we just make things like that without it. When we eat out we can really taste the salt added to foods. Now some things like bread need the salt to help make the yeast work, so check first. PS by the way . . . . . . . . . GOOD QUESTION!
  11. now THAT was a nice read. Good advice too. I like the idea of having more then one place to garden. Just like you should have more then one place to hide you BOB's when out and about in case one is found.
  12. welcome back- and get posting again ! we need more on our side of the play yard.
  13. Well folks here it is the first day of Summer and the weather is doing it's best to let everyone here know that ! 96 here right now (at 3:15) and still going a bit higher before it cools off later tonight. Radio keeps saying to stay inside if at all possible! <--- I am doing THAT! I was outside in garden at 5:30 am and it was getting hot then. Inside it is cool, seeing we have most windows covered with dark blue 'shade' curtains and upstairs are blackout curtains so no sun getting in here. No air condition here so we do what we have to to stay cool in hot weather. I am sure we will be sleeping downstairs in the Pioneer Room tonight.
  14. Hey Homeschooling Moms.................................... OK, I don't know IF this has been 'talked' about here yet but- I just read in the local newspaper that, for New York anyway, the deadline to sign up to Homeschool is July 1st! And that is coming up FAST! Seems you have to do that and then they send you out forms to fill in and get back before Aug. 15 or else you will be sending your kids to school no matter what you had planed to do. Is it like this in all states? If so then if you were on the fence about homeschooling NOW is the time to decide. As one that was 'part-time' Homeschooled in the early 60's and had to fight with the schools about it, boy do I have stories for that.

  16. .......................... remember while you are cleaning it up NOT to breathe any of it! Maybe a mash could help?
  17. As to what to do when freezer fails (or get unplugged).................................. IF it is a fairly good one (good seal) Then the food in it SHOULD stay cold for a while (IF you don't keep opening it to SEE if the food is bad yet?) Your sounds like most of it should have still been frozen IF you had it more than 3/4 full (always add something even bags of ice to get it over the 3/4 mark) a Full Freezer will stay cold longer and it also is cheaper to run that way. Again it all depends on HOW long it was unplugged?
  18. me thinks because of Violet we have to list if we are canning to use this/ next year or long term?
  19. YOU better not let Violet see your post!
  20. Yes, do that with the 'bats' that get to big if we have lots of zucchini bread on hand. BUT the first few get made for this or just stir fried. Soon it will be "Don't leave your car unlock anywhere near a farm or you will find Zucchini in it when you return.
  21. WE have just 'cheap' black fabric ( the part facing out turns gray from the sun so not seen as blackout curtains from the road) that I put a big hem in top and little hem in bottom and use between curtains and windows. Have them in upstairs bedrooms to help keep them cool in summer (no light get in to heat up room). Also in some rooms downstairs to keep them in the dark during the day. other rooms without them get warm - but all you have to do is walk into a 'dark' room and feel how much cooler it is without air conditioning. All we have is a small fan to move the air around when we are in the room.
  22. not as hot as they said it would be so I went to help pick zucchini for market this afternoon. also got some picklers to can on tuesday. Did a bit of running around this am to visit and check in on some Amish Friends before lori had to go to work at 1 pm. Now home to make zucchini parm for Supper
  23. ................................. oh but they taste so good! The cake one is great to mail to someone for a Happy Birthday Surprize! mailed it with a card and 4 candles and a book of matches as a ha,ha. Went over big! But I know the 'ladies' here don't like us to can that one?
