  1. Mornin' folks! I thought I'd check in before going to work today. The heat has reached us here on our mountian. Yesterday, while doing errands before work, I actually got hot getting in and out of the car. Today will be hot and humid as well. When I get home from work tonight, I will be making some more bread and butter pickles. The cucumbers in the garden are finally slowing down on producing. I don't plan on making any more this year. Lisa
  2. Cat, glad to hear about your daughter. It's bad enough that she's sick but at least it's not one of those nasties. We have a chance of storms today and tomorrow. The weather has been pleasant here at our house this week We are surrounded by large, lovely, leafy trees!
  3. Thanks snowmom! I've been wondering about her, too! mommafitz
  4. Mornin' ya'll! I've been busy for the past few days and expect to be that way for a while. I may not get to post very often but I'm gonna try to read regularly. I canned pickles on Friday. I canned Dill ( 6 quarts and 6 pints) and Bread and Butter (3 quarts and 7 pints). I cheated and picked up some seasoning packets at the grocery store on Thursday night. Busy, buys, busy!!!!! I hope everyone has a fantabulous day!!! mommafitz
  5. Thank you theyd for starting this thread. I like hearing everyone's ideas. I hang laundry out, too. The only drawback for the last few weeks is we've had so much rain. I thought of something last night...........we had chicken and dumplings for supper. While I was cleaning up my cutting board where I had rolled the dumpling dough out, I realized I had misjudged the amount of flour I needed on the cutting board and rolling pin to keep the dough from sticking. It seemed like such a waste to throw all that flour out so I put it in a ziploc freezer bag. It is labeled and I will use it when I roll out dough again. I don't know why I hadn't thought of this before. Bring on the frugal ideas, ladies!!!!! mommafitz
  6. Howdo, Everybody! Yesterday was a doozie. We had no water because a wire had shorted out on the well pump. The water went off between 9:30 and 10:30 Monday night. The elecrician/plumber had us watered at 6:55pm on Tuesday night. I love water! and housework that I missed yeserday. Oh yeah, I didn't go to the office. I worked from home. Have a lovely day, mommafiz
  7. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers mommafitz

  10. Mornin'! I'm getting ready for work so I don't have much time. Just thought I'd get our day started. It has been good and hot here for the last 2 days. No rain. I hope we are not starting a hot dry spell. That usually happens in August. Tonight our family is going to the drive-in to see Harry Potter and Spiderman 2. Do you realize how long it has been since I've been to the drive in? and keep sending her cards to improve her spirits!!!! I hope everyone has a lovely day, mommafitz
  11. Thank the Good Lord!!!!! She has been on my mind constantly!!! mommafitz
  12. Mornin'! Yep, I'm late posting here. I've been visiting all the free sites that Hill has posted in the Pinching Pennies forum! What fun! We had some more storms plow thru last night. Our electricity was off for over 3 hours. It kept going off and on after we went to bed. I know this because the window air condtioner in our bedroom woke me up every time it came on!
  13. How-do ya'll! I hope everyone is having a good day.
  14. Howdy ya'll! I hope everyone had a good holiday yesterday. Yound DS and I went to a friends celebration. We ate, visited with new people and the kids fished and played ball. They had a big fireworks show at dark. The rain didn't dampen our spirits! How did your celebration go? Have a lovely day, mommafitz
  15. Happy 4th of July everyone!!! I slept in today and woke up to ...................rain. Last night the local news said the rain should be over by afternoon. We are supposed to go to friends for a big cookout and festivities. That family has the best cooks I've ever met. I consider it to be an honor to be invited. Yesterday I took off work 2 hours early to start my weekend. 12 yo DS and I went to the Comic book store. It was our first visit. The gentleman there was very nice and the store was cool. Each customer was allowed to pick out a free comic book so I got one too!
  16. This house we rent has grapevines. I've never been around home grown grapes before. They are currently green, growing larger every day, and hard as a rock. If I ever figure out they are ripe, what can I do with them? I've never made jelly but I'd like to try. PB and jelly sammiches are a staple at our house! It would be an accomplishment to me to be able to have home canned jelly put by for the winter. I've been given homemade jelly by friends and it has had no flavor. You just taste the sugar. To be honest, I'm not sure what flavor it is supposed to have! Help!!!! mommafitz
  17. Yesterday evening, I found that I had some packets of lettuce left from the first planting so ds and I planted one pack. I have enough left to continue replanting all summer I think. mommafitz
  18. I made this last night. It is super easy to do and yummy!!!! CHOCOLATE ECLAIR CAKE 1 box graham crackers 1 pkg. instant vanilla pudding 1 small container Cool Whip, thawed 1 can ready-to-spread milk chocolate frosting Make pudding according to package directions Fold in Cool Whip. Line a 9x13 pan with graham crackers(Not crushed but whole). Top graham crackers with 1/2 of the pudding mixture. Lay on another layer of graham crackers, the rest of the pudding mixture, and another layer of graham crackers. Melt frosting in microwave about 1 minute on high. Stir and pour over entire top of cake. Refrigerate several hours before serving. mommafitz
  19. Mornin' ya'll! Sorry I missed yesterday but I am trying to catch up with work things. I'll be busy for another week at least. Hubby came in from work this morning and said the cucumbers are starting to come in. I expect work to be slow today(who wants to buy a car instead of going to the lake mommafitz
  20. Thanks for the responses ladies! I really wanted to plant something different. My family doesn't eat beets or spinach. We do eat mustard and turnip greens but I think they need to be planted later in the summer. I probably will just replant lettuce and radishes. I think I'll just look and see what seeds are left in the stores and at Tractor Supply. Something may look enticing!! We stopped at the Mennonites yesterday on the way to work to get some veggies and I left my name and number so they would call about some green beans. I want at least one bushel. The lady told me they may not have enough to sell that much quantity at one time. Their customers like to buy just a mess at a time. Oh well. I hope they call. They are a super nice family and I really want to give them my business. Thanks again!! mommafitz
