  1. Worked in garden all day. The big garden is now done. Just waiting for things to sprout now. Planted green peppers, radishes, more squash, cucumbers, and now I can't think of the other stuff. Guess I'm just tired. Still have okra to plant but in the other bed I am working on. Going to be working on the fence soon. One of my neighbors said if I trap the rabbits he would cook them. I have a better Idea. He can get the traps to catch them and still cook them. Don't think I can deal with traps. GS was suppose to go look at an apartment in Norfolk today or so I thought. He is still in bed. Got up early and ordered a milkshake and sandwich from somewhere, drink the milkshake put sandwich in fridge and went back to bed. It is now going on 5pm so guess there was no apartment to be had. Told him I would take him apartment hunting today. Nope can't get out of bed. Guess the streets are calling his name.
  2. Jeepers have a fun and safe trip. Didn't make it to Tractor Supply today but might be looking into a trap for the rabbits. Going to talk to someone about that when she gets back next week. Might be better to just rehome them. Getting to be to many of them now.
  3. Looking like my carrots are just breaking ground now. So in about 70 to 80 days I should be having carrots. Wonder if you could freeze or dehydrate the carrot tops for later use on things? I have never tried it but next time I make broth I want to try some carrot tops in it.
  4. Went out early this morning to decide where I wanted to plant some other seeds. Rabbits are eating on my strawberry plants now and went back to eating on my squash plants. They are really getting to be a problem now. Might have to have traps set to get rid of them. The babies are cute running around chasing each other but not at the expense of my garden. Going later today to tractor supply to see about that fencing. They said it has to be buried 6 inches in ground which might be an issue for me to get done but I need to try and do the best I can. I sprayed the liquid rabbit fence down again this morning so hoping that will help for right now. Need to measure the strawberry area for the fencing as well now that I see they will eat the strawberry plants. That area is small so might not be as bad to fence in. To bad that won't protect the blueberries from the birds. Need to get the netting out again for that. Blueberries will be ready to pick in a couple of weeks. Took one look at the kitchen this morning and just walked out the door to check garden. That boy made a huge mess in kitchen. Though I still have to deal with cleaning it up I am getting tired of waking up in morning to a dirty kitchen that was clean when I went to bed. But not much longer and he will be living on his own. Found out a friend from my church that has had her son, his wife and their 2 children living with them for several years has finally moved out. She said she had enough and kicked them out. The found an apartment real fast. Said she did what I am about to do. The bedroom no longer has a bed in it. She took the bedroom suit out and put all her craft things in there and it setting it up for her crafts now. She said it is a deterrent to keep them out and on their own. I agree 100%. No guest bedrooms any longer.
  5. Sounds like you got a good deal Ambergris. I was going to work in garden today but ended up doing other things. Needed to pick up RX's and did some grocery shopping. Got 2 packs of chicken thighs with 6 thighs in each pack for $1.35. I would have bought more but they only had 2 packs left. That was at Harris Teeter. Then went to Food Lion and they had a manager's special on roast so got 2 of them for half price. Not much of a haul but much cheaper than paying regular price. Came home and put everything away and started going through some things for GS. Trying to get a few things together for him each day before his move end of month. He is looking at a place in Norfolk but is a bit far from where he works in downtown Suffolk. He doesn't seem to be trying to find a place in Suffolk. But then again maybe the further away he is from my house the better off I will be. But I would prefer he stay in Suffolk with that car of his. Not the best car for driving that distance to work everyday. On the way home I stopped at bank to pull out money. So got all the running around done today. Tomorrow will get back out and work on garden. I went out and watered everything a bit ago. Rabbits haven't messed with the squash anymore. Hope that will be a good sign. Might sit down and do some reading tonight. I'm a bit tired today for some reason. More than likely still not over the infection and still have that cough. And speaking of cough, what is going on with cough syrup? Both stores I was in this morning had the cough syrup isles cleaned out.
  6. All the food from everyone looks yummy. Can't wait to get back into the canning business again. I will be going full steam ahead this year. We are still having cool nights. So I have been opening the windows at night. Daytime is now in 70's and a couple of 80* days. Nights have been in the 50's with a couple of nights in the 60's. Good sleeping weather. Was going to work in garden early this morning but looks like we got rain last night. Gardens are all wet but should be dry enough in a couple of hours to work in. Hoping to finish up the planting today and tomorrow. Then I can move on to other things. I saw a site where they have fruit trees that you can plant in buckets. I think they called them patio trees but not sure. Going to check them out some more. That might work out for me for some of the trees I want.
  7. Midnightmom, she doesn't say anything about being under stress but she is looking for a better job as her DH got out of military on disability. He sits on his butt and won't go finish up with the VA for the disability stuff. And not looking for a job. He is not so disabled that he can't work. He just didn't like how things were going at Naval Hospital where he worked and so wanted out. Sleep apnea and something else but it worked and he got out. She is now the sole breadwinner and does everything at home as well. But she doesn't say anything other than her DH needs to get his butt from in front of computer and get things with VA done. She goes to Naval hospital and she said it is getting better. It was a small patch on her back. But was able to still go to work. Getting light outside now so just having a cup of coffee and going out in a little while to work in yard. Going to plant more veg. seeds and figure out where I want to plant the nasturtium seeds. I need to put in a controlled area as GD said they can spread if you don't catch the seeds before they fall off. Might check shed for a very large pot to plant halfway in ground. That should help some but will still have to watch for seeds dropping on ground. But would be worth it as this is also a form of food that I can plant in front yard. To many neighbors coming up in yard last year checking out my veggie plants in front yard. Not doing that again. Already had one neighbor wanting to know when I am planting tomatoes and another come up in back yard checking out the large garden. I asked him if he was planting a garden and he said no as the neighbors around him give him veggies. In this day and age and WW3 about to start I wasn't sure how to take that. Corner lots makes it hard to keep a garden hidden. I don't mind sharing but a couple act like they are waiting for their handouts. Might have to start a small table to sell. I would call that seed money plus labor.
  8. Annarchy, that definitely sounded like she was casing your house. I agree with Midnightmom. Time to figure out a better solution so that can't happen again. So sorry that happened and yes it does give you a bad feeling. Kappy, Speaking as a medical assistant, those students were not suppose to touch you without the doctor there. So you were very much right to fire that doctor and get a new one. Just glad you were able to find a new doctor that quick. Hope you don't develop any issues from the rough handling. Jeepers, seems you did get a lot done. I did what you are doing. I bought new undies, bras and socks plus T shirts as well and I railly wash clothes more than once a month. Much easier that way and gives me more time for other things. Though lately working in garden I have been washing clothes about every 2 weeks. Don't want stains to stay in the clothes to point I can't get them out. So I treat the stains and then wash them in about 2 weeks. Hoping to get back to washing once every month soon. Other than sheets and towels I was those every 2 weeks anyway. I will be switching out my winter clothes for summer clothes soon. Will be going through everything at that time to see what still fits and what can go. I've lost some weight and some of my clothes are to big. From there I will be able to see what I really need to replace. Sort of took a small break today. Didn't do a lot in yard other than transplant my aloe vera plant into a pot for in the house. Cleaned kitchen, dusted bedroom, paid bills and listened to preaching. Haven't been in church since I got strep throat as the cough is still with me and it gets really bad at times. Just don't want to go to church and start up with a bad coughing spell and have to walk out of service to get water or something. It is getting better and the ear and neck glands are doing much better now. So hoping to get back in church soon. Seems I just stay sick ever since my GS moved in. He has a smokers cough or allergies now. He never washes his hands and just keeps spreading his germs. I am surprised I didn't get what he had a couple of months ago. Mono and bronchitis. My oldest granddaughter in Washington has shingles. She is 31 years old and it seems you can now get shingles at earlier ages now. She had chicken pox really bad as a child. Miki, you reminded me that I need to do some shoe shopping. Need a new pair of sandals. The ones I have are wearing out. Don't think they will make it through the summer months.
  9. Ambergris, your breakfast and lunch sounds good. I can't wait to get fresh tomatoes for a good ol tomato sandwich. I need to go through my bug out bag but waiting till GS moves out. Don't want to set it by the garage door and it disappear thinking it was his clothes or something and get picked up by mistake. Got all the strawberries planted and the cantaloupe also. Also got the last of the marigolds planted. Looking like rain now and getting cooler. So hoping if not to wet in the morning I can finish up on the larger garden and work on rabbit proofing. They said you have to bury the wire 6 inches in ground and 2 ft. high. Not sure if I can do that or not as I would not have any help for that. So will see if there are other options.
  10. Euphrasyne, Hope you are feeling better. Still praying for you and that things will be looking much brighter when you get back. Didn't buy enough strawberry plants so went out this morning to buy more. So now have 10 more to plant. These were a bit more expensive but will produce for 2 or 3 years before I need to replant. Also bought 4 pepper plants. I still have peppers in freezer so these should be enough for fresh peppers and for dehydrating. Also bought 2 cantaloupe plants. Have never planted these before either but hoping they will produce well. Only one more garden patch to finish weeding out. Ran into a snag on that one as when the termite guys about 3 years ago put the wells in under the vents, they dropped a bag of rocks. instead of picking them up they covered them up in that area. So I am digging up rocks and getting them out so I can plant there. Didn't need that set back but it is what it is. Potato plants are doing well so far.
  11. Euphrasyne, If I weren't so tired from working in the yard today, I would be doing the same thing. I am beat and sore. Blueberry bush is planted as well as strawberries and watermelon. Did some other things out there and the rabbit is happy. already got into my squash. That little varment needs to go somewhere else to eat. I haven't gotten the liquid fence down yet because of rain last night. But did get it on plants this morning. But I think it might rain either tonight or tomorrow. So will have to do it again and then get started on fencing. To tired to fight rabbits this summer.
  12. Was to wet to work the gardens this morning. But will be working on them in a little while. Going to plant the blueberry bush I had to replace and plant the strawberries. They are already getting up to a good size now. So need to get them in ground today. I am trying a watermelon plant also and will be getting that in ground as well. I hope I can grow one as this will be the first time growing watermelon. Cleaned kitchen this morning and washed 3 loads of clothes. Did some dusting and mopping as well. GS did help me weed out the flower bed where the blueberry bushes are though. At least that was something. Euphrasyne, We have already gone through those apartments on that site. GS doesn't say much about it. He got up at 12:30 today but not really looking into apartments and he leaves at 3 to go to work. I really don't think he is looking and he knows his time here is short. Wondering if he thinks I am going to cave and let him stay. Nope not happening. I let his mother and him talk me into letting him stay till first of July so he can get car payed off and get a new one. That never happened either as he just lied about all of that to both his mother and me. So out he goes on street the end of the month if there is no apartment. He can get a hotel room or something. But not staying here for me to clean up behind him and destroying my property.
  13. All the fun is in the surprise.
  14. Midnight mom, I think we could all find a tea shirt in that category. Those are so cute. I was looking at the baby clothes in there and found a couple of things for the great grandbaby. I ordered those. Kappy, I hope your next eye or laser surgery is a success. It's a lot of doctor visits but hopefully will pay off for much better eyesight. Euphrasyne, That was a great haul. Good finds. Jeepers, I had to read what you said about the insurance twice. I can't believe they never bothered to call you about the guy leaving the company. And all this time you have been waiting to get things done. That was just wrong. But hopefully now things will start moving along. I know you are really anxious to get the job finished and the house sold as quickly as possible. Been working in yard for past 3 days. potatoes are now in and working on planting the blueberry bush and strawberries. Think I found a place to plant the watermelon. Just hope that works out as I have never planted those before. First time for everything. After all that is done, I will see how much room I have to plant more seeds. Then I can rework my herb garden to work better for me. Need to do a little shopping in the near future. The baby shower will be down the street from me in August and I need to get my plans together. I have somethings for her but going to see what else I want to do. She has a crib she got free from her best friend as she is expecting also and was given 3 brand new cribs from different family members. Was helping GS find an apartment but it is not easy in his price range. But working on it. DD said maybe an in law suite or a room for rent. Nope nothing in that category. He wants to stay in the Suffolk area and there isn't a lot here to work with in his price range of $1200. For that price there should be something somewhere around here. I am hoping to get him out of bed next Sat. and we going looking at what's out there. The internet isn't always the answer. Sometimes you just have to get out and look for one. Not even anything in the newspaper.
  15. That really looks good. Dee can you teach my GS how not to throw away food. He is the most wasteful kid I ever saw. Cooks up more than he can eat and instead of putting leftovers in fridge it goes in trash. GS has a lot to learn in the school of hard knocks.
  16. Worked in garden this morning, Got tomatoes, carrots and squash planted. Tomorrow I will finish the planting and get other things in yard done. Going to get the green house in a more permanent place. Then next spring I only need to put the cover on it and it will be ready to use. Putting in permanent tie downs for it. Moving the wood pile to a better location as well. GS said he will help me with that. I will see if he can get up before 5pm to help. He's being nice again for now. I think it is a coy to get me to let him stay longer but not going to happen. Next week is back to house work and going through more stuff for Goodwill. Maybe do some organizing if I get the chance.
  17. Happy Birthday Darlene. May it be a great day.
  18. Didn't get to work in gardens today. Went back out hoping it had warmed up a bit and instead it got colder and started raining. Right now the sun is out but some gray clouds. hoping tomorrow will be better. So just worked around the house today. Got quite a bit done inside today though. I thought about going out and planting my carrot seeds but to tired now and my ear is very sore. Afraid I might be on the verge of getting an ear infection. Will see what happens tomorrow.
  19. My younger sister got everything. There was no will that could be found. My parents never made one up. Only where they wanted to be buried. My younger sister even caused my mother to lose her house. That one is a long story. Just wish my mother would have seen through her as she was one evil girl. went out early this morning to start working in gardens again and it was just to cold. So came in house to do some things. Will go back out in a couple of hours to work garden. Woke up with my ear full of fluid so had to deal with that very early this morning. It is better but I can still feel some fluid way down in there. Hope I'm not getting an ear infection. It was very windy yesterday and that might have something to do with it. Wind blowing in my ears and face. Had to pin my hair up it was so windy. But I got a lot done on the gardens.
  20. I know what you mean Jeepers, I think it is in all families. it is why I have a trust instead of a will. I already know what each of my grandchildren want as well as my DD. In the trust is a list of each item that each child wants. So no bickering, or anything. Each child will get what they want and as for the rest they can sell it, throw it out, or divide it between them. It will all be taken care of through the trust lawyer. All of my uncles and aunts are gone now and I only have a few cousins left now. All are up in age now also. It is ashame that families have to act like the way they do when a family member passes as it leaves hard feelings for a long, long time. Just not worth it to me.
  21. Euphrasyne, So sorry about your uncle. And yes I have been there with my little sister. She started stealing from my mother before she passed away. Then after she passed and with my older sister who passed in 1999 and lived with my mother. Yes little sister didn't care that older sister was still alive and for that reason she had no business taking from the house anything she wanted without asking. She took everything, but was worth it to not have the drama. My younger sister was very greedy. She learned at a very young age take what you want. I even had to give her my Christmas presents each year if it was something she wanted. But was worth it to not see or hear from her any longer.
  22. Ambergris, I'm glad all is ok now. And you were able to go back home. Hope PM is doing ok as well. Jeepers, everything here is shrinking. The Wendy's frosty's and the Dairy Queen are smaller now. But the price sure didn't shrink. Got the garden in, and the marigolds planted. But saw where we are going to have a couple of 42* nights. So going to wait a bit on the tomatoes. Still have to plant the watermelon plants but not sure where yet. Working on a place. Got just over half of the flower bed on back of house cleaned out. So hopefully tomorrow I can finish up. Stopped a little earlier than I usually do. Just tired and was starting to get really sore, so figured I better quit while I was ahead. It has been really windy today so that might be why I was able to get in garden after last night's rain. It wasn't the hard rain we did have for 2 day. GS still not talking to me and he won't talk to his mother either. Don't know what is up with that. He called his mother and told her I am making him move by end of this month. Still not looking for an apartment. I ask DD if he told her why I am making him move and she said no. So told her about going through my bedroom dressers, and such looking for his rent money. And punching a hole in the closet door. She said he would have been out of her house that night. I thought about just waiting till 1st of July because of just getting this job but I'm not so sure I will do that now. Never said he was sorry for what he did and won't take responsibility for his actions. I have told him many times actions have consequences. He just doesn't seem to get it or just doesn't care. His whole life is sleeping, eating and playing video games. He does nothing else. Woke me up around 3 am this morning going up and down hall talking to his internet friend and being very loud. I got up and told him to tone it down. He wouldn't do it but ended up sitting in his car to finish talking with his friend. I think he got the idea that he could be kicked out before end of May. I worry that he will never change his ways and start doing what's right. I really hate kicking him out but it is the only way he will ever learn.
  23. Been working in the gardens all morning. Came in for a break and to get my seeds to plant. There was more rain last night and ground is muddy but just dry enough that I can now get into it to plant.. Later will come in and start on another room to deep clean. I should sleep good tonight or be so tired I can't sleep.
  24. Mt. Rider I hope you don't have any squirrels in attic or getting in walls. They will eat through the electrical cords. I know several people here that has had that issue. Had to call someone out to get the squirrels out and find where they got in. They love cedar shank roofs. Hope you can get it figured out soon. Just finished working on the den. Making a few changes and dusting and mopping floors as well. Had to change filters on vacuum as well. I forgot the construction workers got hold of it and was vacuuming things that they should have been using their shop vac for. I had forgotten about that and had to clean it and change filters before I could use it. I didn't realize the wood stove could create so much dust. But all clean now. I will know now that next winter I will need to keep on top of that.
  25. Got Den cleaned up and furniture vacuumed. Moved some furniture around now that I won't be using the wood stove for the summer. Hoping to find new den furniture that will work in there after GS moves out. Thinking couch and 2 swivel rockers. With those I won't have to move furniture when I start using the stove again next winter. Right now I have the living room furniture in den. Loveseat and couch. So have to move the loveseat to the other side of den when using the wood stove. GS is at work so I can get so much more done right now. Tomorrow I will spend most of day working on garden. Pulled out the seeds I want to get planted so I am ready to go. Only one more flower bed in back of house to get cleaned out but will do that after I plant the bigger garden and the one on side of house. Then need to plant the marigolds along the the front yard flower bed for a border. I have 40 of those so hoping it will be enough.
