Momo
On our way into the nearest little town this am I noticed something weird. It is a very nice all American type town of about 7,000 people. As we drove through the central downtown area, not 1 business had any Christmas decorations out side. I remember just a few years back that most banks etc would at least have a big wreath on the door. When we got to the other side of town that has several strip malls I thought maybe it would change. I really expected at least Hobby Lobby or Lowe's would have something..nope. The only business I saw decorated was a local grocery store where someone had painted Christmas scenes on the front windows. Maybe this political correctness has really taken hold, even in the rural south. Is it like this in your area too? I also notice that each year fewer and fewer folks put lights on their houses outside. Quote Link to comment
Virginia
Ours is just the opposite. In our town of 12,000 there was a lawsuit a couple of years back because a manger scene was on the Court House lawn along with other decorations. Courts said no more manger scene. Therefore, the whole (mostly) business community took it upon themselves to decorate all around the Square with Christmas decorations, many Christian. Little contest. The entire town took it up, now there a decorations everywhere. People are openly greeting each other and smiling. I am thankful. Quote Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Our small town has lights all over. Wreaths. Bows and ribbons. The usual. MtRider ....I've only been in town once since Thanksgiving but I loved seeing the lights in neighborhoods and main street. Quote Link to comment
Momo
I forgot to mention that the city has put out a bunch of those white light plastic decorations that go on the light poles. That's about it though. Even the old fashioned 1910 department store building isn't decorated. Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
I'm in a little suburban town with no traditional town square so not many businesses decorate. Probably because they are small. Don't know. We do have a common area place with a gazebo and it's decked out. The town next to me is a little bigger than mine and their common area is really big and surrounded by their town hall, police station and fire department and they are really lit up. They do a beautiful job every year. Our police department usually has a huge wreath on the side of the building but I forgot to notice if it was there this year. Quote Link to comment
Annarchy
Our town did it's normal old decorations. The white tensile is gray from years of use. I haven't noticed much. Several of our neighbors have the inflated decorations at night. We don't decorate because we won't be here. I have 4 poinsettia coasters on the coffee table, that's it. Not sure why I didn't care about it this year. A lot of reasons, this too shall pass. DH & I were talking about decorating, when we get to spend Christmas at home, we want to overdo luminaries all around the yard, with scented candles. Quote Link to comment
