  1. Have y'all seen this stuff on blood type possibly affecting the outcome of COVID-19? https://www.newsweek.com/blood-type-coronavirus-covid-19-1492890
  2. Honestly, the best way to find out would be to cut out completely for a week or 2, then add ghee in and see if any symptoms come back. I *think* it's the lactose in most people, but there are definitely people who react to casein (and other things in milk) as well.
  3. This would depend on whether it's the lactose, the casein, or something else in it that's causing the problems. If it's the lactose, it would work. I pour off as much as I can without disturbing the solids on the bottom, then pour through several layers of cheese cloth. If it's the casein, that part is still in the ghee. ETA: They make butter-flavored coconut oil that works great for cooking.
  4. Very dependent in Texas on which part you're in. In our part...maybe 5% wear masks when you're in stores and such. The numbers are climbing out here.
  5. Cleaned out a kitchen cabinet. Have a box of stuff to get rid of, and a bunch of cleaning supplies that need a new place to live in the house. Bought leeks for the first time. I have them simmering in a bit of bone broth and water. Smells delicious, we'll see how that turns out. Have to go into town for work this afternoon. I'm working more and more AT work instead of home, and I'm not sure I like it....but I did at least get my standing desk set up at work yesterday.
  6. They had a fit when the Houston mayor canceled the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Lots of people didn't get to sell their livestock then. They are planning to hold the Texas State Fair, it seems.
  7. That was years ago. I'm home in Midland until the weekend of July 4, I believe.
  8. At a cousin's wedding in Phoenix, I had to take my belt off because every time my arm touched it, I'd get another burn. We're only up to 102F today!
  9. No small cans here either, at least not of the Bush beans. I might have to see how well that works (and not tell hubby that there's cumin in it).
  10. There's one on Dad's keys. It said they were at the house, so they were going nuts trying to find them. They finally did...on TOP of something tall enough they couldn't see them, out in the garage. Why he put them there in the first place, we'll never know.
  11. We’re up to 140 cases locally. Deaths are mostly centered on a nursing home near our church. I think one of their staff came back from vacation with it and it spread like wildfire.
  12. Even then, we have friends going 'round and 'round WITH a lawyer and a CPA for the last few months. I think they're finally getting it set up.
  13. Might I also recommend asking the counselor/therapist for recommendations on an organization for the PARENTS of LGBTQ+ persons? They'll have ideas and experience regarding how you can best support her.
  14. This ticks me off and makes me doubt numbers in general. From our city's Facebook page: "The 123rd confirmed case is a male in his 50s who was tested by a private provider. The male is currently self-isolating at home. The male is currently in California and has not been in Midland since January. The male will not return to Midland until he has recovered. The source of exposure is contact to known case." WHY is he counted as a case here in Midland? Is he ALSO counted as a case in California? ETA: One of the comments says that they count people in their place of residence. That just made me doubt ALL the numbers because we have a HUGE transient population here due to the oilfield.
  15. The other problem is that people on ventilators are highly susceptible to secondary infections.
  16. It made my eyes water like I'd gotten pepper up my nose.

If any of you are wondering - the website seems legit, but definitely has a Muslim bent to it.

They're yellow onions. I put 7 pieces of potato in each pot, but need to add more soil (this evening, when the wind isn't blowing 30mph and it's not 100F outside). Honestly, we're both highly impressed that everything has survived so far.
  19. I hope you feel better quickly, Amber.

Dead from the heat or dead from the cold?
  21. Test results are in. No COVID!

OK, how do I know when to pull potatoes and onions?
  23. Still no fever, and I'm assuming that if my test showed up positive over the weekend, they would have included me in the demographic #s for new cases in our area. Pretty well assuming I'm in the clear, but waiting for the official results first. Still have just a catch in my breath every once in a while, but respiratory crud always hits me hard.
  24. 97.9 this morning and just a mild headache. Still waiting on the test results, but maybe it was just a 24-hour bug? That would also explain hubby going "Well, I had a scratchy throat the day before." His immune system is a LOT stronger than mine, to the point where a bug that had me throwing up repeatedly just caused a bit of indigestion for him.
  25. I have been tested. I said it’s nowhere near as bad as they make it out to be, but hubby pointed output that I have an extremely high pain tolerance and may have abused my sinuses enough to deaden the nerves. It felt like a poke, then my eyes watered. That was about it. Temp is up to 100.9-ish. All the thermometers give me a different reading. Hubby wants to try a manual one if we can find it. It’s a 24-hour test, but they tell you it may take 4-7 days for results.
