  2. Here we go! The refrigerator will keep food safe for about 4 hours if it is unopened. A full freezer will hold the temperature for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full) and the door remains closed. One article says that the train company says that the lights and gates were working and that the train sounded its horn, but that's not what the local people are saying. Still wondering what happened...
  7. That irritates me. Stores are more likely to start deciding it's not worth their time to process coupons if customers abuse them. The store may not be able to get paid for that coupon now.
  8. I don't use a recipe. I've discovered that I don't like the flavor of pork bones in mine (that batch got dumped, it was nasty). I toss in the carcass/bones, dump in water until it's covered and about an inch below the top of my crock pot, toss in a spoonful or two of lemon juice, turn it on high until it boils, then leave it on low until about the same time the next day. I cooked it down afterwards last time (reduced it) to about 1/3 of the volume, and it's delicious and takes up much less space in my freezer.

  10. Most of my recipes are for pumpkin fudge, since I'm a pumpkin fiend. However, none of them don't use butter, and some of them could be entirely from storage. Quite a few do use coconut though, because I tend to look for recipes that are Paleo-ish. Note that some of these sites may involve some mild cussing.   12. We are changing the filter every month, as the doctor advised me to do after the last bout of pink eye. They are cleaning the mechanical stuff as well. They says it's 100% cleaning efficiency, but for some reason I'm a tiny bit skeptical on that. I said something about wondering why it just started affecting me lately; my husband looked at me like I'm crazy and said that I've been tired and getting sick ever since we moved into the house. Hopefully this will do the trick!
  13. We cut a hole above the toilet (hubby's going to put in a medicine cabinet anyways...). Can't see anything in there but dust and fuzzies. I'm assuming the black woven cloth (yes, I can see that it's woven, not a carpet of mold) is insulation or the vapor barrier? We're going to get a petri dish from Home Depot tomorrow and let it hang out in there to make sure it's not mold. I have an air duct cleaning scheduled for November 20 (that's when we'll be able to afford it, and leave the house for a few days to let things settle if need be). I've been doing fine the last few days, but I've been turning the AC off during the day and it's been cool enough that it doesn't run much at night.

  15. The other thing to consider is, do y'all live in different areas? Could humidity/temperature make a difference?
  16. 1) It says to cool things, but never says how much to heat them up. 2) I've never seen an icing recipe with flour and granulated sugar in it...it would need to be hot enough to completely dissolve the sugar, and that's not in the directions. Those are just my opinions. They may or may not be valid in this situation.
  17. The site that Philbe posted says that Ace carries fire bricks. The Rutland ones are $19.99 for 6, delivered to your local store. That's at least cheaper than at Home Depot!
  18. OK, So, the general consensus seems to be flat out do not use concrete bricks, but the red clay bricks are just fine if you're okay with a bit of flaking. Otherwise, fire bricks are the only way to go.

That being said, it might be fine for short term use. Still searching!
  21. Then again, how often do you hear about house bricks exploding during a fire? They're not fire bricks either. Time for some research!
  22. This is the picture I have of you in my head right now. Have you talked to hospice, his doctors, your church, anywhere you can think of, about respite care? You're wearing yourself out, and it sounds like you need some time for you.
  23. Hubby will be wearing a mask, and goggles if I can get him too. He figures he'll cut a whole up high. That way, he can just put in the medicine cabinet he wants if there isn't a problem, and if there is a problem, we can spray diluted bleach or something in there to try to reduce its growth rate.
  24. Fire bricks are expensive. $27.97 for 6 at Home Depot. So...it would be a $90 stove then.
  25. Yeah, I think the carpet will be going away soon. Not this weekend, but not too much longer after that.
