  1. Yesterday, I was looking for pictures of lace for a drawing I am doing. Boy did I get side tracked on that project. Google search turned up so many pretties. Tatted lace designs were tantalizing! (I saved a bunch of them and want to make so many new patterns.) Then, I saw a picture of bobbin lace.. The designs are outstanding. Time to pull out my bobbins again and try some of them.
  2. You all probably know most of this; http://www.pestdetour.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=1330&idcategory=159 http://www.ecologycenter.org/factsheets/rodent_control.html My MIL uses Mothballs all the time, diligently replacing them as they deteriorate. Though her neighborhood fights with squirrel control, she has never had a problem with them. It takes a week after I get home to finally get rid of the smell. 3. Their catalogs are an interesting read. Whole Earth Catalog site: http://www.wholeearth.com/index.php and Wikipedia-Whole Earth Catalog http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whole_Earth_Catalog Here is one of their articles about "A Bestiary of Useful Fibers - Tools Ideas..."
  4. Thank you so very much for your prayers for her. Tho I could hardly understand her when she called yesterday, due to the sores in her mouth, she said the Doctors found she had an infection and started an antibiotic drip and suggested if they can get that under control, she may be able to go home Wednesday.
  5. They had tufted pillows with the longer hairs, shorn to create a thick, plush pile.... so soft....
  6. Neat idea for the spindle. **more ideas then I need right now.. LOL** I do not know how much yarn 3 fleeces make, (80 euro = appx. $110. today's market) The alpaca store was charging from $5 - $30 for the amount of yarn I sent you. I guess it depended on who had spun it.. The farm had a waist high table with a screen for the top, on it was a 2 foot by 2 foot loose pile of fleece unprocessed, preparing for the weekend classes. From what I could tell, that amount was a fraction of the amount that would have been sheered from one animal. Here is an excellent picture of a lady spindling the fleece. http://www.labuenavidaalpacas.com/event.pdf (Down at the bottom of the page.)
  7. October's treatment did not go well. After a brief stay in the hospital with fluids, they sent her home to recover the soft tissue burns. She could hardly talk for a couple of weeks. November's treatments had worse effects. She is still hospitalized. They are trying to help her recover from the soft tissue chemo burns... and trying to build up her bone marrow back up again... :sad-smiley-012: Trying to stay strong....
  8. It was another frame with a project in progress, on top of a box. (Sorry it's blurry.)
  9. Here is the training room at the Alpaca farm we visited and the spinning wheel they were using When I get some free time, I am going to try it.
  10. A more detailed pattern I just finished for a Lady. The antique white tread was died with food coloring to match the color she wanted.
  11. Last night, Pot of beans, muchaca & tortillas. At least 4 meals left over.
  12. Our 'one meal', Fried pork chop, left over rice and spinach.
  13. Tonight, Piece of chicken, with a home made white sauce, long grain & wild rice, and a cup of spinach.
  14. Thank you all for your prayers. They sent her to the Cancer Centers of America in Ill. After more testing and chemo, she is heading home for a month and will return for more chemo next month. They have given her hope, maybe another year. If the chemo works, she might go into remission. Again, thank you for remembering her in your prayers.
  15. (((((((Ambergris))))))) Hope you are feeling better. Not a problem, that is why I posted it. We had left overs last night, French Dip Roast thinly sliced on buttered toast. 1 cup of bullion sprinkled with dried diced onion and pepper. Warm the meat a few minutes by soaking in the boiling bullion before making the sandwich.
  16. Update: After recovering from the first round of chemo, that almost took her life, she seemed to be doing better. She had gained her strength back and had been getting around and doing things again. I was so encouraged that maybe the treatment had really worked and she had beaten the cancer. The relationship with her daughter had been restored and her grandchildren were visiting the last time we skyped. Yesterday, after last weeks tests, she received notice from the doctor that the cancer spread to her liver and her lungs. She has pneumonia and is on oxygen 24/7. They are going to do more chemo treatments, but, have told her she might have only a year left to live. The hardest part, she asked me to tell our Mother. As usual, Mom's comment was typical, "She gets to see Jesus before we do." I respectfully ask for prayers for her.
  17. thinking about starting this friend thing up... seeing if it lets us do some group messaging. You seem a logical first choice :)

  18. Pot Roast 1/2 lb Roast 3 diced potatoes 2 sliced carrots 1 slice of onion sprinkle with salt & pepper 1 tbs margarine on potatoes Cover and seal with aluminum foil, bake @ 350 for 3 hours. He likes it falling apart.
  19. Sometimes it is. I make it but not hot. You can use it in burritos: Bean, cheese, and carne and/or sour cream, or carne, diced potatoes (takes some of the burn out), diced onion & scrambled eggs. In tacos, enchiladas, or anything as a garnish. Tonight we are having, a pot of pinto beans, Mexican rice, red chilli cheese enchiladas. Made the enchilada sauce a month ago and froze the left over. Pot of beans will make another meal of bean soup before I crush them for re-fried beans.
  20. (((((((Mamacat)))))) It is not easy to prep for our final aging days and death. Many ignore it completely. Some 'think' they have everything figured out and leave it at that. But, death is a cruel master, it will effect every single one of us. Through the years, I have watched the reactions of those around. Each dealing with the grief in diverse ways, rarely with kindness. Your "prep lessons" are sage advise. Thank you for sharing. Respectfully, Ann~archy
  21. TY, I am in the same mode here.
