  1. That's so wrong of you to point out. My mouth dropped when I read it though.
  2. What is the difference between parboil and plain white rice? Just the partial boil? Then why does it need to cook longer? Which is better for long term storage? Does it matter?
  3. Thanks Cat! Sending hugs but using the phone.
  4. Rape whistle? Is it a Fox 40 whistle? The kind that doesn't have a pea. That's the kind I made all of my lifeguards use when I was still working because they worked when and after you made a rescue. They are the BEST whistle ever!!!!!! Sorry, I'll get off of my marketing soap box for them. Did he forget they have earthquakes in LA? I had to read your post twice when you said LA and wouldn't need an emergency kit.
  5. I appreciate ALL of your help and listen to it, wink! Believe it or not some of it does get absorbed. My mom canned fruits and vegetable, gardened and sewed, I'm the only one of three girls that does it. My youngest sister took a slight interest in learning how to can last summer & I showed her how to put up corn. She keeps some long term stuff but not much. She works retail so she has seen a shift with costs but "it's just part of life". My middle sister doesn't think there is value to it & there is nothing really to worry about. Her husband has been laid off twice in 18 months and they struggled to put food on the table but she only keeps a little over a month worth of food in the house. I've yet to find a mall I didn't like but I shop sales & clearance with coupons. I can handle most emergencies as if they were second nature. I guess lifeguarding and teach lifeguard courses and CPR/First Aid courses for 15+ years had a profound effect on the way I respond & react. I prep as we can but I always look to gain new skill sets and knowledge.
  6. Good afternoon~ I'm squeaking in. We left the house at 9 this morning and walked in the house around 4:15. I dropped the kids off at my parents and went to my knitting class, we learned binding, decreasing and increasing stitches. Next week is the last week, we'll be learning cable and lace. I signed up for the project class that starts the following Friday, we will be making a hat and scarf in that one. We ran into the Martial Arts Studio and DD is going to make the switch to there. The kids in the class we saw were all bigger/older than her but she held a higher rank. The instructor said she and her friend could go to that class (typically starts at age 6 both girls are 5) because they understand what they are doing. Not sure if that's the best class choice or the one that goes from ages 3-5, those kids looked small/young. I managed to clean the deep freeze yesterday and planted more onions and cleaned out the weeds that are growing in the raised bed (there were some big holes in it, weird). But it was to windy to do anything else outside. Have a great one!
  7. Stop! No one ever showed me what the strawberry was for, and I took sewing classes. The tomato my mom had is floating between one of three houses, I just don't know which one. I have a pasta maker and registered for an iron but didn't receive one. I made a comment that I picked my pattern board and a clothes line and received strange looks. (Edited by Cat because Jori was trying to type with a sick little guy on her lap, and it came out ummmm... *interesting*. )
  8. Thanks Linda! I was getting ready to look for the last thread and ask about her.
  9. Ivory bar soap has shrunk. I would venture to say the new bars are 2/3 the size of the old ones. I could only get 3 packs. When I asked about it, they ran a scan and found out the warehouse can't get it currently.
  10. Costco or Sam's has bittersweet chips. I'll check when I run in and let you know. Sam's Club - Ghiradelli bittersweet chips just under $10. for 3#
  11. I had my first knitting class today and LOVED it!!!!! We learned long tailed cast on; garter; stockinette;ribbing; graph paper stitch
  12. Costco or Sam's has bittersweet chips. I'll check when I run in and let you know.
  13. Thank you! He;s back to normal and I caught a glimpse of the tooth he was working on when he got sick.
  14. I missed the first one. DS2 had roseola but didn't know that is what he had. I'll go this Friday and make up the first one.

  16. Thanks TMC! I was thinking Spanish (Latin American). DH was thinking Chinese. I saw that Rosetta Stone offered Greek or Latin (can't remember off hand) and I thought might be good for language development and understanding meanings. I took Spanish was I was in grade school and German when I was in High School but that's been over 20 years. I remember more sign language. I was just thinking about you so hope all is well!
  17. Looking for feedback on what you have used for foreign language programs. What did you used? How old were the kids? Did you like it? Did they like it? Did they learn? I messed with the Rosetta Stone Homeschool Program this morning. I've never really given it any thought. My focus for additional has been sports and music (and gardening).
  18. I signed up for my first knitting class today. It starts Friday and meets 4 times.
  19. DH and I talked pretty in-depth last night and I am going to take both. The knitting for beginners course begins next Friday. As soon as that's finished, I'll take the knit beginner project course and then the quilting (machine) course since it starts the end of May. There will be one week of overlapping in May but I think it is going to be worth it.
  20. I'm looking for thoughts and opinions. I haven't decided on my birthday gift but have found a class for beginner quilting and one for knitting for beginners. I can only take one (unless I can find a creative way to get both). I really want to be able to knit and quilt but can't decide which is going to be the better one to take right now. Thoughts, please.

  23. Lol! I thought the same thing, Mother. It didn't register until I saw your post and I'm working on my third cup if coffee. I can't help
