  1. Thanks everyone! Violet~ I was pretty sure we didn't recommend it but wanted to check. Arby ~ she could have said 2 years. I was amazed with all of her food stores for she and her husband. We've talked about buying the powdered eggs for baking/cooking just haven't done it, yet. I remember eating cheese in red wax when I was little but I think my mom had it in the fridge. So a HUGE downfall to these shows are people might not be giving great information to others. I haven't seen anyone actually canning so I'm not sure what they are saying/doing/teaching.
  2. I was watching Doomsday something or other last night, and the lady was rubbing mineral oil on eggs to make them shelf stable. Ummmmmm???? This isn't recommended, is it? Or did I miss that one? Also, she was storing cheese in wax to make it shelf stable, I think she said something like 30 or 40 years. Again, um, is this really recommended?
  3. Bumping due to the wacky weather I'm adding sambucol to the stocks. Now I just need to find a cough syrup that isn't in the liquid form (DS1 won't take).
  4. Welcome Ghost of City Life! C4C ~I was just thinking about you and wondering how you were. Glad to "see" you.
  5. Congratulations on finding a better method for beets! I did them last summer for DH and I told him if he wanted them he could do them. YUCK! What a big purple mess!!!
  6. Crockpot Ribs (picked up on sale awhile ago & mac and cheese
  7. DH did 20 Pts of corn. Poor guy. Next year will be better.
  8. 40 pts green beans. Need to do one more bushel to feel comfortable.
  9. DH is doing the bulk of the canning this season because of the baby (but I'm helping). 42 pts of dilly beans. Another bushel of green beans in the fridge to be pressure canned.
  10. Taught my sister how to can (pressure) two weeks ago. We did 16 pints of corn and they really liked it. Had her freeze the rest
  11. Does the celery get soggy in the soup?
  12. We planed two cherry trees in May and we are in Northwest Indiana (I think the drive is 3 hours give or take to MIL)
  13. Started blueberries, corn and rhubarb. I should have to buy rhubarb next year because my plant is doing so well.
  14. 2 gallon bags & a gallon bucket of strawberries. Need to put the rhubarb and put it up.
  15. Walmart had 2 packs of kids toothbrushes for $.75 a pack. Cleaned them out (8 packs). I think that is going to get the two of them 8 months of toothbrushes each. Will check back on Friday to see if they have restocked them. Ran to our W-mart to see if they had them. They were sold out but they had them marked at $.97 a pack. So I'll run to the other one when we go to Costco and Sam's on Friday.

    SEEDS!!!!!!

Thanks! Looking at the Baker Creek one in a few. Gofish~ Are they open to the public to go in? That's about a 75 minute drive for us and I know that area well. Gave my midwife the mail order forms for 2 of my catalogs for heirlooms, yesterday.
  17. Well, the plan was chicken soup but I don't like the way the chicken pulled apart or cooled. So I think the chicken will be for sandwiches and dinner tonight and I'll just can the broth & try again.
  18. I have an alpaca sweater (that I brought back from Chile) that has a hole in the arm that I haven't gotten rid of yet. Recycle!!!!! Awesome idea!!! Thanks for sharing.
