  1. good morning all! I hope each one is feeling better today. My goal for today is to treat DH's cough. He's had it for weeks and it's not getting better. I hope to do hydrotherapy on his chest and have him drink a glass of water every 10 minutes for an hour. I know he is dehydrated because he never drinks enough water anyway and yesterday we went to that church 1 1/2 hrs from home and did the concert I had mentioned in another post. We tend not to drink as much water when we are traveling. Thursday DD1 came and we ladies (me, DDs 1 & 2 and Mom) went Christmas shopping at Goodwill in another town and a couple other places. DD left early Friday morning. Our water was really low and we couldn't take showers. There wasn't enough water to do DH's hydrotherapy treatment. DS and I left shortly after. The health food store had a Lab Tech there drawing blood for lab test. They do this every so often and really lower the prices. I wanted the H. pylori test. It turned out it was a breath test that cost a bit more but I did it anyway. I knew I would regret it if I didn't because I want to know if I have it. The results will be mailed. DS walked up the hill and checked the reservoir. It only had a couple of inches of water in it but the spring was running pretty good. It seems to be much better this morning. I think he's going to check it again today. We have a 600 gallon reservoir. So...I have gifts to wrap, bills to get ready to mail tomorrow, DH's health care and hopefully some decluttering projects. DD2 and Ih ave lots we want to do before Christmas.
  2. A wintry mix for us this morning. The all rain later in the day. Maybe rain most of the week but we seriously need it.
  3. 89 day wait is terrible! Praying you'll get in sooner.
  4. "unlax and rewind" I love this! Glad the travelers are home safe. We are getting some good rain. and it's so badly needed. Ah those telemarketer calls. We get calls from a couple multiple times per week and sometimes in a day. I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the number. Mom did a funny thing one. She got a call from a lady doing a "brief survey". The lady asked her her marital status if she had children, etc. Mom answered a few then asked, "Are you married?" The lady said "Yes",. Mom asked, "Do you have any children?" The lady said she did and told her how many. Then Mom asked her age. "She said, "Wait a minute. I'm supposed to be asking YOU the questions". Mom said, "Well, if you can ask me nosy questions, I can ask you nosy questions!" the lady hung up.
  5. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
  6. Annarchy glad for safe travels. It's really smoky here today. A new fire in western NC broke out Monday and has already burned 700-800 acres. This one is in Watauga County, about an hour and a half from us. Heard on the news from Ashe Co, NC that three people had been cited for burning trash! Why can folks not comprehend the seriousness of the burn bans? The fire in Ashe is still going too. There is a 30% chance of rain this evening. I potted up 13 small aloe veras to give to the folks that came to the natural remedies class my friend and I did back in the spring and summer.
  7. Sass, you sound so full of exciting and fun plans! I'm happy for you and can't help sharing your excitement. Too bad we can have a MrsS work bee for you there!
  8. I too hope the sick ones are doing better and things are looking up for all. DH got a cold last week and now DS has it. We are supposed to do a Christmas program Dec 3 at a church about 1 1/2 hrs from home. We are praying that they get well and DD and I don't get sick. We are planning to sing six songs with some remarks in between. I know the Lord can work it out the way He wants it.
  9. Love this thread! Precious.
  10. We are not ready for winter either. We got our dump truck load of logs but still have to cut, split and stack them in the shed. The wind was awful last night. My friend was just telling me that it blew one of their windows out. She said it must have been cracked before and they didn't realize it. It was cold (high of 37) and windy today. DD1 and DSIL were here for the weekend. Both DDs and I were out with headlamps last night picking greens for DD1 because we knew it would be cold today and they might not survive. We got about half of them ready for the freezer today before they left. She had 14 almost-quarts so should get about that many more. She just bagged up what she thought the two of them would eat for a meal. Anyway back to winter readiness....I have a long list of before winter to-dos. With highs in the 50s this week, I hope I can get a bunch checked off the list.
  11. Can you move to a warmer climate? That is so depressing. Glad you arrived safely Cecilia. Today it's supposed to be 72 and drop to 23 tonight. It will be lower probably. Last Saturday, they said 27 and it went down to 14.
  12. Wow, Mt Rider is talented! We even have snow in our forecast for Saturday night!
  13. Oh my! I'm kind of afraid of horses. They're so much bigger than me and I don't understand how their minds work. Glad you were not hurt. Looks like we've got a bit of smoke from all the wildfires raging west and south of us. Thousands of acres have burned and still burning in western NC, southwestern VA, eastern KY and TN. Even wildfires in coastal areas of NC, SC and GA. DD1 and DSIL are planning to come for the weekend. We ladies plan to do our annual Goodwill shopping trip. Mom gives us each $20 and we shop GW and SA for Christmas gifts for ourselves and our men from Mom for Christmas. Mom loves this so much and it's fun for us too. A couple years ago, I was in Mom's bank withdrawing the cash for this outing and the very-well dressed bank teller was so friendly and pleasant. I mentioned that we were going for our annual Christmas GW shopping trip. Her eyebrows shot up and she visibly withdrew from me as if she were trying not to be contaminated. I had a good laugh after I got back in my car. Now every time I go in that bank, she is quite frosty. I guess I just revealed to her that I was not in her class. I just think it's funny. I am not ashamed of shopping at Goodwill.
  14. Oh Annarchy! What a bummer, again and again! I hope things start looking up soon.
  15. Yay for you Sass! You can do this. A true story...a lady who was an RN had a mother who had diabetes, heart disease and some other chronic conditions and was in a wheelchair. She was 83 years old. Her daughter moved her in with her and asked her if she would be willing to try a new diet and lifestyle. She said she would. She began eating a plant-based diet of Real Food, and began exercising her muscles with her daughter's help. Then she began walking very slowly and then improved more and more. She became able to work in the garden and died at 103! About a week before she died, she became weak and tired, then and just "fell asleep" with no significant problems or pain. This was so encouraging to me because it shows me what can be done when you try.
  16. DS, Mom and I are taking our monthly town trip today. Lots of stops and errands but we have to be home by 2 pm so DS can deliver the partial he repaired yesterday. We have a 40% chance of rain this afternoon but if it doesn't, I hope to pick more greens. I put 9 quarts int he dehydrator and DD cooked another pot full. DH and DS had to work on the truck last night. Something about the U-joint. DH thought it was the front one but it wasn't so he didn't have the right parts. Somehow they fixed it anyway but got in bed late. Cecilia, I still couldn't do it, no matter how small. Jeepers, I guess I missed your post. I miss a lot of posts this time of year.
  17. I'm sorry! My DH has chronic back and shoulder pain. I hope you will get good answers and help. I will be praying for you.
  18. Yay Cecilia! I hate going to the dentist and it's such a relief to get caught up. I am happy for you!! I can't imagine not needing novacaine.
  19. Thanks WE2! Sass, You sound very busy! I hope you get everything settled soon. Jeepers, I think it would kill the tree or make it very ill. Yesterday, DS and I dug two more rows of potatoes. He worked in the lab until lunchtime. That's about how long it takes for the dew to dry off here. He also dug the holes to bury the radishes, turnips, etc. So today, I hope we can get that done. We have 3 1/2 more potato rows too. I picked greens, got them washed and ready to chop and cook. I think DD is going to do that today. I need to pick more today. It's supposed to be much colder by the weekend. Our monthly grocery/town trip is scheduled for tomorrow; there is a 40% chance of rain. We need rain but I hope we can get all the root crops in before it rains very much. A local state of emergency in the next county over and a burn ban until we get significant rain. Wildfires in east Tennessee too.
  20. WE2, I'm confused about the Roost and the Homestead and your current house. They are three different places, right? Are you planning to move to the Homestead or the Roost? Homesteader, wow! I hope you are doing better. You too, Mt Rider and anyone else who was feeling low. We're still having pretty nice days but colder nights, down to 21. Still trying to get the root crops in and picking greens. DS started digging a big hole to put turnips, etc. in for the winter. I guess you all heard about the threats to NY, TX and VA for today, the day before the election? I haven't seen it mentioned on the Forum.
  21. Well, If I lived close, I would certainly take him up on his offer!
