To me, de-cluttering means both putting things away and getting rid of things that I really don't want. They go to the thrift store (or someone I know that can use them) if they are in good shape or in the trash if not. In the burn pile if burnable. There is a LOT of de-cluttering that needs to be done around here too. We have the residue from three house that we are slowly dealing with--DS's dentist boss that moved to CA, DH's sister's house and his mom's house, both who passed away near the end of last year.
The de-clutternig is slow because of all the gardening and putting up food that we do. Given the choice to pick and freeze the sugar peas or can the tomatoes, or de-clutter, the clear choice is to put up the food! I hope when the gardens are done, we can make some serious inroads in the clutter.
