  1. MtRider, that long description you posted of the INTJ is SO me! One of the things that frustrates me about DH and others it that they make a decision before they've learned all the options and possibilities. We've had more than a few arguments about that!
  2. INTJ Introvert(56%) iNtuitive(12%) Thinking(1%) Judging(67%) You have moderate preference of Introversion over Extraversion (56%) You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (12%) You have marginal or no preference of Thinking over Feeling (1%) You have distinct preference of Judging over Perceiving (67%)
  3. Welcome! What perseverance you have!
  4. Little Women The Five Little Peppers and sequels Black Beauty Beautiful Joe Diary of Anne Frank Carry On Mr. Bowditch (read to kids and loved it myself) The Bronze Bow (read to kids and loved it myself) Girl of the Limberlost and another one by that author, can't remember the name. The hero saw his future wife in a dream. Grace Livingston Hill books as a teenager Emilie Loring books as a teenager Heidi & sequels Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn The Bobbsey Twins Trixi Belden series Donna Parker series Nancy Drew series Anne of Green Gables & sequels Rebecca of Sunnybrooke Farm The Swiss Family Robinson Zane Grey books Alice in Wonderland Thornton Burgess books about birds and animals. There was Blacky the Crow, Johnny Chuck, and many, many more. to mention a few. There was a book of dog stories by someone, maybe his last name was Terhune or something like that. I liked that book a lot. I liked Call of the Wild and White Fang too. There was a really old book that my grandmother had called Dandelion Cottage that I loved. I don't know what happened to it. She had one called The Little House on Wheels that I actually found at her house a few years ago. The house is falling down. I'm sure I've left out some favorites. I read 1000's of books when I was growing up. Every birthday and Christmas, my mom's parents would get me 4 or 5 books. My friend and I kept a list of books we read in a year and we each read over 1000 books that year. I still read dozens and dozens a year.
  5. I think it makes a difference what the glue is made of. A fatty substance works on some glues and not on others, such as peanut butter, Crisco, vegetable oil, etc. I have used acetone on some glues but it won't work on every type of label glue.
  6. Right, Southern cornbread doesn't have sugar in it. We don't like a sweet taste to our cornbread. I can't imagine adding extra sugar to everything. I'm more inclined to leave it out or add way less. When you don't eat sugar, your taste buds change and that sweet taste becomes nasty.
  7. Yesterday, we canned 66 qts of applesauce and 18 half gallons plus 3 qts of apple juice.
  8. Cutting up apples for applesauce today. Will cook, strain and can tomorrow.
  9. MtRider, I feel the same way. That looks awful!
  10. Oh my! Glad you and everyone is safe. I don't think I could deal with all the animal chores in frigid temps.
  11. I ended up with 16 of the 1 1/2 pint jars (spaghetti sauce jars) and 8 pints of pears. I'm giving DD1 the pints. There is about 1 1/2 bushels left to do but they're not ripe enough yet. DS and I are going tomorrow to get 3 bins of apples. This is about 60 bushels. We have already sold 42 of them and we'll use the remaining 18 for applesauce, drying and eating fresh. Last year we kept 21 bushels but this year we were able to pick up 6-7 bushels from a friend's friend's tree plus our trees had a good crop. We canned over 300 qts of applesauce last year and only have about 50 qts left!
  12. I think I heard that too. DD1 is going to have it done. Her doctor wants to see if she has a certain gene for some kind of heart defect. It's $99 for the test I think that tells you all kinds of things that her doctor will interpret plus her ancestry through me I guess. So I will learn something from it!
  13. I watched several episodes of "Finding Your Roots" online. We don't have TV. I enjoyed them. I would love to have them fin my roots! I've gone way back on certain sides but would love to know it all and have the dna testing.
  14. I'm canning pears today. DS and DD helped get them ready. I've got one canner on of 1 pint-and a- half jars plus a pint. I'm waiting for f the next batch to get hot so I can put them in the cans.
  15. DH was a building contractor and a finish carpenter for many years too. He was injured on the job (not the building job, the forestry job he had later in life). When we got the Worker's Comp settlement, we built our house. He taught DS everything he knew during this process so now DS could build a house from start to finish. During the building, DH had to sometimes supervise because of not being able to do the actual physical work but he was very involved. We had family and friends volunteer their help with several of the bigger parts of it such as raising the walls, roofing, etc. The only thing we hired out was the pouring of the concrete basement floor because DH wasn't physically able to do it and DS didn't know how. The workers didn't do a very good job, now DS knows how to do it and how not to do it! I'm talking about the smoothing out of the concrete that takes hours and hours. DS studied electronic engineering & has a degree in that. We are indeed very blessed. I don't know how to build anything!
  16. Brrr... I certainly did get this off topic, didn't I? From Beluga whales to snow! I am interested too. If you find out anything about the whales be sure and post it.
  17. I think we get our worst weather in February too. We had our first snow last week, only got an inch but surrounding areas got 6, 8 and 10 inches. http://firsthandweather.com/396/firsthand-weathers-final-2014-15-winter-forecast/ I'm in Region 8 and he gives this forecast: Region 8: This region is the area that I am most concerned about for this upcoming winter. We have a situation where the pattern is going to favor a lot of precipitation due to El Nino and a very cold pattern due to warmer waters in the northeastern Pacific and much higher than average Siberian snow cover, which will likely be responsible for a negative Arctic Oscillation. If all of this comes together, this region could have a winter that they have not experienced in decades. I put most of this region in much-below average temperatures and much-above average precipitation. Places that typically do not get snow and ice will get it, and places that typically only get small amounts of wintry precipitation will get a lot. I expect a very active and wet pattern across the southern states, and I expect the polar jet and the southern jet to interact in a way that could bring about a “snowmageddon” kind of winter along the East Coast. I expect numerous East Coast and Southeast winter storms. Places even as far west as the Southern Plains including Dallas will also likely be hit hard. I hope to be as prepared for this as possible. Better to be ready than not!
  18. Same here! DH and DS are both very handy. Everyone in the community calls on them when they need something fixed.
  19. I assume he was talking about the snow there in his area, not all over the country! Time will tell, as they say
  20. I think it's fascinating! I just watched it again and was reminded of the other end time signs he mentioned: something being discovered in or near Ambler that white people would consider very valuable and two consecutive seasons where the snow will reach the tops of the spruce trees. Those along with the appearance of the whale in the river near Ambler would certainly be a shocker, wouldn't it?
  21. Interesting! Reminds me of the prophecy of the Eskimo Maniiḷaq (mah-NEE-luk). www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN0CJqpVDEA One of his prophecies was that when a whale (he may have said a big fish but I think he said whale) would swim up the river to the village of Ambler, then the world would end. He predicted many things that happened such as white men coming to his area in "boats" that flew in the air and landed on the water, etc. Very interesting to read about. You can google his name and find a lot about him.
  22. Oh no! I would be so frustrated. I hope you can get the important stuff back. Is it possible?
