  1. You are still in my prayers Annarchy. I know it is hard, but try to stay strong for both DH and your MIL. It's not easy I know. 28 years ago, I almost lost my DH to a serious stroke. Aneurism bleed out at base of brain stem. Almost lost him then. Then in 1999. The heart attack. I know you will have to keep his salt intake very low. at least 1200 ml a day. Plus, the diet change. It's not easy but not hard either. You will be able to get it all figured out. You are good at doing things like that. Just a bit of adjustments on food. They had DH and me go to classes for what he could eat. Maybe they will still have that. It did help get him on the right track. One of the things I learned back then was to use spices and herbs and not cook with salt. I went back to canning all my veggies as finding canned veggies on sell back then with no salt was never put in the sales. Only the ones with salt would be on sale back then. Now you can get either.
  2. I do buy some brand-named items but have started to buy more off brands. So far, the off brands I have bought haven't been bad. Almost afraid to go into a store now as I haven't really been in one now for about 2 or 3 weeks other than for fresh veggies.
  3. Darlene, I don't have hurt feelings because of this. It's just hard to determine what might or might not offend someone. Sometimes it is not easy to report on something that you read and then can't get that report to come here for anyone that wants to read it can. So, I just give a description of what the article said. But I think maybe I best not do that. I would rather try to move the article to here for anyone to read. But can't get anything to come over from e-mail.
  4. I am so sad to hear that Annarchy. I hope it is not bad and he recovers quickly. and going your way. Praying for the both of you and for the doctors to get him strong again fast.
  5. Jeepers, glad to see you back. Now for a nice relaxing few days and you will be good as new. Been a very busy week. Cleaning out kitchen cabinets and putting in new shelf liner. Washed clothes, started the garden where I have everything set up for it. Started going through the food and getting things more organized there. Moved the older foods to the kitchen cabinets. Can only do that on the weekends though. Still cleaning up dust from everywhere. Today they got the bathtub in, and plumbing done. The backsplash is now here and hopefully they will get that in tomorrow. Once that is done, I will be very busy canning meat from freezers. Then I can go out and reload when I find sales. Will be doing some dehydrating also with the frozen veggies in freezers. Have some frozen strawberries and blueberries to dehydrated as well. Having to wash the dishes I took out of cabinet as they even have dust on them. Thank goodness for dishwashers. I won't be on here as much as I will be very busy for a couple of weeks if not longer. Just starting to unpack stuff to go through and get rid of what I don't need. Plus working in garden.
  6. I can name the grandparents on mother's side but just the grandparents whom I spent a lot of time with growing up and my great grandparents as well. Though my great grandmother passed away when I was about 3 years old. My father was adopted, so never new anyone or anything about his side of family.
  7. Happy Birthday Happygirl. Extra cake going around.
  8. Happy Birthday Becca-Anne. Glad you had a wonderful day.
  9. I remember those kits. They are fun. Used to do that with daughter and grandkids when they were all growing up.
  10. This has been a busy week. Contractors have been here 4 days this week. Work on main bathroom has started and now to clean up the dust again. Not as bad though. Cleaned out the drawers in kitchen while they were working. Put in new shelf paper and went through everything in there. Much better organized now. And things I haven't used in years are now packed up to go. Euphrasyne, I hope your hand is doing much better. Miki, Hope your husband is much better also. Hello franksgirl. I to have been canning chicken as well as beef. Just waiting now to can everything in freezers after the construction is finished. Made room for a couple of hams that I am waiting for a good sale for. Those will be in freezer till I get them canned with beans after the construction is done. Too much dust flying around to do that job right now. Neighbor called me last night before storm hit, to go over and calm the dog down. Her father-in-law lives with them as he has dementia and he fell outside, and they had to take him to ER. Seems doggie went crazy because of the accident. So, I went over and played with her, letting her chase her ball and wearing her down. She calmed down and I bought her back in house and gave her some goodies. FIL went down on the cement driveway and busted his head open. After 7 staples and 2 CT scans he was allowed to come home at 4 am. They are all worn out. But he is doing ok. I think since there will be no contractors here this weekend, I will try to get the upper kitchen cabinets cleaned out and new shelf paper in. Then I can get those cabinets reorganized and situated like I want. I do have one upper cabinet done already. So, 6 more to go. My raised bed soil came in last night, so will also be working on getting boxes set up to start planting. Going to be a very busy weekend.
  11. Euphrasyne, Beautiful family. You have some lovely girls there. I know they are all a joy to you. Mother the soil I ordered is Fox Farm soil. It has a blend of earthworms casting, bat guano, seagoing fish and crab meal. Forest humus, mass PH levels are adjusted at 6.3 to 6.8 for optimum fertilizer uptake. For raised bed boxes, this seems to be one of the best ones for that.
  12. Euphrasyne, glad you are doing better. Praying for a fast recovery. Today I had plumber and 2 construction workers here. They have demoed the main bathroom and will soon be ready to put up sheetrock and do plumbing. The plumbing was in bad shape and the knobs to turn water on and off at sink had frozen up. So, all that getting replaced. Tub is out and so is vanity now. So just the cleanup and then putting it all back together again. My regular plumber was out to replace the outside faucet and to put the new air intake valve on furnace. So that part is all fixed. seems the faucet froze over during winter, and I had it covered like I always do. But the contractors were using the faucet and must not have drained it after. So it burst. Got my garden seeds started today. So far just squash and cucumbers. Planted onions the other day and they seem to be doing good so far. Started those from onions that had sprouted. Ended up ordering the soil for the raised beds as what I wanted had the worm casting in it and other things. Lowes and Home Depot had sold out. So ordered on Amazon. They still had it. So as soon as that gets here, I can set up one of the beds and get my green beans and butterbeans planted. Need to get out to get tomato plants. Was going to do seeds but think I will just get plants for that and green peppers. I have no where to set up my seeds as contractors have the garage piled up with stuff and I really need to get the small greenhouse set up for the seeds. Just can't find what I need to keep that from blowing over in the wind.
  13. Sorry if I offended anyone. I was referring to an article sent to me from Dr. Marcela. I really didn't see anything political in the article, as I was trying to send the article over from e-mail for anyone that wanted to read it. But I will no longer try to get it moved over here nor will I talk about what was in any article that I have read if it is going to be taken as being political. I did not mean to offend anyone on here with what I stated in the article. So, I will just stay away from these parts of the forum. Safer that way.
  14. I usually put the dates on front of cans with a sharpie, but I really like this idea. Going to have to go find some of those stickers next time I am out shopping.
  15. They started demoing the main bathroom today. Though they could not turn off the water. Pipes are frozen up and they would not budge. So, plumber coming tomorrow with the demo guys. So, while they were doing that, I went out and got my onions planted and went through all my seeds. Getting ready to put in the squash and to order the raised bed soil for the boxes. Again, I was told backsplash was not in. He went to pick it up after they said it was there and it wasn't there. He needs to find out what is going on with that. I have been getting this story for 2 months. So will be having a talk with the owner. Went to Food Lion after they left, and they were stocking for the start of new sells tomorrow. Frozen foods were really bad. mostly empty. I was only picking up a few things so didn't look at the milk or eggs or anything. So don't know if they were low or not. Frozen veggies are supposed to be on sale starting tomorrow, so might go back tomorrow to get some to dehydrate.
  16. Ambergris, He is talking about cows causing climate change. So, they want to do away with meat. My understanding is that they are trying to produce fake meat in a lab. I cannot be sure of this, and I so hope I am wrong about lab-based meat. But if you read what Midnightmom posted in the first post it explains some of what is happening. They have been saying for a long time that cows are messing up our climate.
  17. I don't have any particular time to get on here. I just depends on how my day is going. Construction, working on garden, reorganizing cabinets has been keeping me really busy. So seems like I might not be on here for a few days and then I run in and jump on computer to see what is going on and try to catch up, which is hard to do. Really tired right now and need to be up early in morning as Contruction workers will be rolling in to demo the main bathroom. Not looking forward to more dust. But it is what it is. Hopefully now they will come daily and get this mess finished so I can get on with my life.
  18. Dee, that is a great story. Would love to have seen that going down the road. themartianchick. Now I know what not to do if I ever get ducks. Good way to make them mad and hold a grudge.
  19. So sorry to hear this Buttercup. Prayers going out to you and his family.
  20. Got all my store-bought canned meat in cabinet in kitchen today. Tuna, spam, corned beef, salmon, and corned beef hash and some others. All now organized so I can see what I have. All oldest dates are in front. Had an outdoor faucet to crack, so had plumber out today. They will be back on Wed., and one will be putting the air regulator on the boiler. He was supposed to do that months ago. But his brother passed, and I let it go for a while. His brother was my neighbor. Contractors will finally all be here tomorrow. They are going to demo the main bathroom and put in the backsplash. Small bathroom has a couple of things that need to be done, but I can use it. Shower door was put in Friday. I am hoping they will be done by end of the month. I will be trying to get some of the garden in while they are working. Still a bit to cold to plant some things, but I can get a few things going. My onions that sprouted have a strong root system. So will be planting them this week. Need to get carrots in as well. Not sure what else yet but will be going through all my seeds this week. This coming weekend I hope to get more kitchen cabinets cleaned out and reorganized. At least now I can start to get somethings taken care of. And I need to get my car washed. It's a hot mess.
  21. Praying for Buttercup's friend to be found and safe and back with his family. Miki, praying for your DH to get better and get rid of this infection and for you to have the strength to take care of him when he gets home and that you get the rest you need. I know how stressful it can be to have someone in hospital. Please take care of yourself also.
  22. Praying for Miki's DH, euphrasyne's hand surgery to go well, and for Jeepers trip. Also, for anyone that I may have missed I hope all goes well. Weekends are the only days I can get things done around here since contractors don't work on weekends. So, I have moved almost all the can goods to the cabinet on den side of kitchen. I can now see what I need at a glance instead of things being everywhere. Need to get the upper kitchen cabinets cleaned out as well. My energy has run out. But need to keep going. So just taken a short break for now. Dust is everywhere so trying to clean that up as I go. Only issue is that they still have to demo the main bathroom which will create more dust. They are going to put up plastic to keep it to a minimal, but the fine cement dust still seems to find its way all over house. Had a very old picture frame to brake as it was plaster of Paris. It lasted for many years. Took all the pictures out of it as it used to hang on wall. Dust was all behind the glass in that. So, I will be taken picture frames apart when this is all done and over to clean dust out of that. Such fun. Let the sneezing begin, it is tearing up my allergies.
  23. I also am watching for ham sales. Would like to get a couple of them to cut up for freezer. I did that last Thanksgiving and Christmas and now have 4 turkeys in freezer that I need to get canned. Will be doing all the canning as soon as they are done with construction, and I can't wait for them to get done as I need to get the canning started. The kitchen tiles still are not in, and now I am getting a bit worried about that as they were supposed to have been ordered in January. I try to go to at least 3 stores every week rather I buy anything or not just to see what the sales on meat is. If I go early morning when the stores are just opening, I sometimes get good sales on reduced meat. That is how I filled my freezer. Half price sales on beef. But now I am trying for hamburger and chicken and right now with Easter for hams as well.
  24. Mother, I love that cutting board. That was a great idea and really nice that the kids were able to come up with that idea. Jeepers, have a safe and great trip. Miki, for your DH. Hope he gets better very soon. Ambergris, Hope everything goes well with that EEG. Prayers going out for things to go well.
