  1. I have just started to read up on Monkeypox. So not commenting at this time. Don't really need anything else to worry about right now as I have enough going on. I am watching it and will take precautions as needed, but right now I am just going to read up and see where this heads and what it will lead to. Though it does seem a bit strange that first Corvid and now this. Something as I have said in the past stinks and it's not good.
  2. Yesterday the main bathroom countertop was put in and the sink but no plumbing yet. Painting is done except for some touch up painting when things are totally done. And of course, no one came today to do anything. He said that he is sending out a crew to finish up all the last-minute stuff and is now working on fireplace plans. I have washed the kitchen window and got blinds back up. Except for the shoe molding which is holding me up from getting things back in closets as well as the sliding doors in hall closet which I can't put anything on any shelve as the shelves have to be moved for them to put doors back in on tracks. So, this is a big hold up. Got my bedroom widows washed and ready to get hardware up for the new blinds and curtains. Got the main bathroom window washed but not putting blinds up till they are done in there as I don't want the blinds messed up. They keep opening that window while they are working in there. Only thing left in that bathroom is plumbing and electrical. So, it is close to being done. Just have to drag them off one job to finish this job. Going to start getting my bedroom back together. They still have to put the new ceiling fan in though. But that shouldn't be a problem. Grandson has a sinus infection and just started his new job. He's going in as he can't call in sick on first day. But there is no fever, and it seems more like a head cold than anything else. But will see. He is doing his best to stay away from me as he said he doesn't want me to get it. So, he is staying in his room and only coming out to eat or to take a shower. Will be fumigating the house when he goes to work. Did that this morning but will do it again tonight. For those that are looking into Medicare. I can tell you what some friends of mine did. They went on the advantage plan, and it was bad. I have Medicare and a supplement insurance that pays the 20% that Medicare doesn't pay. It has worked great for me. I never paid a dime out of pocket for Dh's 4 hospital stays and 2 surgeries he had in 2020 nor in early 2021 before he passed. My friends are now paying very high co-pays for one that is now in hospital and to a nursing home for therapy. I don't pay co-pays for doctor or specialist visits with advantage plans you do. Not saying there aren't some good things about it as one gets $200 a month for groceries but can only go to Kroger with the advantage plan. But she now will be paying thousands of dollars for her medical bills as she has been in hospital 5 or 6 times with pneumonia and her falling several times. She broke her back from a bad fall and never recovered. This is why the nursing home for therapy. The advantage plan will be kicking her out of therapy on Friday and she has only had less than one week of it. I hope this helps all of you with making the discissions about Medicare. It is a hard choice. One of my friends went back to reg. Medicare and a supplement right after having advantage for a year. She had to wait till open season to change. Said it was the biggest mistake she ever made. Just make sure of all your options first before going on anything other than Reg. Medicare with a supplement insurance. Medicare is not perfect but much better than Advantage plans. Annarchy, I really hope and pray your DH is going to get much better. The ankle is just a small setback, but he will get there. Miki, you are so right about the construction taking so long. It is already driving me up a wall. We are past the 4-month time frame, and I am so ready for them to get out of my house. Still a lot of small things to do and also the fireplace which they are just now getting the plans together for. So, I am figuring on another month of this mess before I can get the whole house back together. I can now do some small things but that is about it. Still can't get pictures back up and patio door will be the last thing I can do at this time. They use that door coming in and out of to work and I won't put the drapes up until they are totally done and out of here. If I could just hold them here for everyday instead of the owner sending from one job to the other this job could have been finished in 2 months. Becca Anne, I know how you feel about the hold ups as well. I also have a friend that is going through this mess as she had a pipe to burst behind a wall and woke up to ankle deep water in kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, hall and living room. She had a mess. This happened 2 months ago, and they are still working on the apt.
  3. I have been reading a lot about this. Just something else we have to deal with on top of everything else. There was a joke going around about monkeypox. It was something like monkeypox without the k. Thought that was funny considering the money being made from the C-19 vac. Not going to live in a vacuum for this one either. Life as we know it has to go on. So, pray a lot and hope we never get this one either. The Lord is always in charge and knows what he is doing. I will just lift this up to him and let him take care of it. My trust and faith lay in the Lord for all this mess that is going on. I really am tired of having to be so watchful of all the mess and trying to prepare. But it is something we must continue to do. And I am sure all of you like me are tired of trying to keep up with inflation and gas prices. Getting harder and harder to do as the prices of everything keeps going up more and more. And now Monkeypox.
  4. Never had the shingles but know of many that did when I was working in doctor's office. One lady had it so bad she was hospitalized. It messed her nerves up and they had to do a nerve block. She ended up not able to walk without using a walker. My brother-in-law had it so bad it was in his eye, and he had to go to an eye doctor for treatment. Thank goodness he didn't have permanent eye damage from it. But he was in pain. Couldn't drive for weeks. DH never got it either. I did get the shingles vac. many years ago but will not get this new one.
  5. Thought I would get some canning done over the past 3 days but here comes the counter guy, then the floor guys. So, no go on that yet. Painters of all days is coming tomorrow to paint main bathroom and do the touch up paint in other rooms. Don't know if anyone is coming Monday yet or not. Waiting on countertop for main bathroom and sink. Still electrical to do and get the fans put in. They still haven't started the fireplace yet. I am so over this mess. Been trying to clean up as much dust as I can. Changed air condition filter and then started dusting off the tops of the doorways. Dusting a lot these days but it is useless till they are done and out of here. Grandson has orientation for his job Monday at 10 am. So, will be gone at least 4 or 5 hours. That will give me some free time to get a few things out of his way in living room where he is having to sleep on couch till they are done, and I can get him a bedroom fixed up. I will be nice for him to have his own bedroom. It will get there but it is just taking so long to finish this work up. Jeepers, I am making a list of things I need for the car. I have extra oil filters and oil, but need to get a lot of other things as well. Thanks for the reminder. The floor guys took the sliding doors off the hall closet and put them up against closet in my bedroom. Those doors are heavy and now I have to move them somewhere else. I did go and buy new sliding wheels for them as the old ones are over 55 years old and wearing out. Will let them put those on when they hand the doors back up. They still haven't put the shoe molding in and I can't get things back in closets till that is done. Things like this is holding me up from getting house back together. Still trying to get things put away in kitchen. Had the ant problem this year. Thought it was the usual place at patio door but nope it was where the backsplash joins with the wallboard between kitchen and den wall. Took care of that issue. Love that Terro. Works great and in 24 hours they are out of here. At least I found the new place they got in at. Just follow the trail. Going to set the dehydrator in kitchen for the time being as I can't get the garage set up yet for what I want to do. Just won't be dehydrating onions. Been there, done that before. Going to teach GS how to make jerky. He will love making that and dehydrating it. Been a long while since I made any. On the spaghetti noodles. I buy the ones that are already cut in half and before I put them in the vacuum bags, I take a small piece of the scrape bags from the rolls and fold it up to put in bottom of the bag and then lay the end of the noodles on that. I also take another small piece and place it on top of the noodles and then seal the bag. It has worked for me so far. And I have a lot of stuff I need to get bagged up for long term and can't get to anything.
  6. I have been thinking about when this mess is over with construction and I get the rest of it paid off, I am going to buy a second vehicle. Will keep mine for a backup just in case. Grandson needs a new car but can't afford it right now. So, thinking he should keep his old car for a backup just in case. It will be a while before he can afford one as he doesn't start his job till sometime next week. Had to do a drug test and paperwork this week. His car is bad on gas it is a Toyota Corolla with 265,000 miles on it. Thank the Lord that he has been able to get new brakes and rotors, battery and tires for it. Everything else is doing good. Going to go down and buy some things for my car and will pick up an oil filter or two for his car. He said he will be doing the oil change himself, but DH stopped doing that and we don't have the tools and drip pan for that any longer. So, he will need to buy all that stuff if he wants to change oil his self. I think it is great that he did learn how to do some of the car Maintenace himself. He changed out the brakes and rotors himself as well. Right now, I am waiting on the counter guy to come. Said it will be between 11 am and 1 pm. So, I have a bit of time to kill for now. Feels good to be able to just sit down and have a cup of coffee in peace. GS is still asleep. He will be working nights, so he is working on his sleep pattern again for night work. This is going to be the part that is hard when it comes to cooking. He will be leaving about 5:30 in the afternoon to go to work, so it will be an early dinner for him. And he should be getting home somewhere between 6 am and 7 am. That won't be too bad for breakfast. That part I can handle easy. But I don't usually start dinner till around 5 pm, so I am thinking make ahead dinners and the slow cooker and crock pot that has several different settings. That one I can use like a stove top, oven and a crock pot. I love the different settings on it. Even has a keep warm setting on it. So that will more than likely get used the most. Then he can eat when he is ready and head out to work. He won't have to worry about lunch there as they feed them a free meal. It is a food production warehouse, and the funny part is that it is his father's competition. His dad is also in the food production business, though dad is manager for his company. If GS likes this work, he to can work up the latter. He loved the one he worked at before his parents moved to another state, so he should love this job as well. He will make twice what his old job was here. So starting off with great pay and medical on first day.
  7. Poor cow looks washed out. Tough job birthing that calf. Glad they were both doing good. That had to be a scarry moment. Makes me miss living in the country.
  8. That looks like fun. Never seen that before and yes it does seem like a pin ball machine. The spinner was a neat idea I have a couple of those.
  9. Annarchy, my husband was on blood thinners, and he bruised like that. The skin would get so thin that if he scratched his arm in that area, it would bleed. We decided to go with the watchman to get him off the blood thinners as he was having reactions to them. Hopefully maybe your DH could check into the watchman. It is surgical procedure, and he would have to stay in hospital overnight. But well worth it than to have the side effects of the blood thinners. Jeepers I am with you on the food. I don't want any of my family to go hungry because they didn't prepare like they should have. Yes, my DD still won't prepare and still has her head in the sand and will NOT lesson to her DH. And after seeing that my GS being homeless and not prepared for anything and was skin and bones when he got here, that will not happen again. He is eating me out of house and home, but I know it was because he didn't have much to eat. He would get him something at work when he was homeless to heat in microwave at work and then it was whatever he could find to eat in car. He was first going all day and night and not eating and then would eat that one TV dinner at work. Then he would fill his water bottle up before leaving work with water. That didn't just go on when he was homeless but also at his sister's house as that is something I won't get into here. I can say it was not a good situation. Right now, I have a lot of wheat berries to get into mylar bags as well as the flour that is in fridge right now. They are coming tomorrow afternoon to put in the rest of the floor. So, after that I can start getting the rest of the food put away and organized. It's been a long 4 months and they still have a way to go. They are now looking at the plans for the wood burning stove.
  10. Still have my windows 10. I also still have my XP though it isn't working any longer. I also have a mac but still haven't figured it out yet. Not going to let windows 11 download on my windows 10. And besides that, give it 2 or 3 years and they will want to download another form of windows on it.
  11. True, I have typed in drugs many times and found the answers I need. I really need to update my PDR as well. It's been a bit hard to find the newest one.
  12. Didn't make it to Church this morning. Just could not get myself together. Very tired for some reason. Though this afternoon I did get potatoes, carrots and spring onions planted with help of GS in the grow bags. Still very tired though. So, we had a do-it-yourself dinner tonight. I just did not feel like cooking dinner. But GS is a good cook, so he took care of that and cleaned up. Hoping within the next couple of weeks to start canning from freezer. That is getting to be a must get done now thing. Need that freezer space for any good sales on meat that I can find.
  13. Ambergris, I hope your back is much better by tomorrow. And hope they get the fridge fixed soon. Sorry your housemate is having such a hard time finding a place to live. Hopefully it will be soon.
  14. Went out to check the garden this evening and I have both butterbeans and green beans now coming up. Squash still hasn't broken through yet and they were planted about the same time. Guess it will take a bit longer. Got car washed today as it had been 2 years since I washed it. Yeah, it changed colors. Just couldn't get it done with everything going on.
  15. Welcome back Deb. Nice to meet you. You will get there; it just takes time. Just take baby steps like Dogmom said. It's a lot of work but well worth it. Maybe when you are not driving kids around then on those days you can work in garden. I am usually up at 6 am to get out and work on it. But now I have my grandson living with me and he is a big help. Hopefully your kids and grandkids will have time to get out there and help with the garden. I enlarged mine this year and still planting.
  16. I have a Fitbit but with everything that has been going on for over 3 years, I haven't used it. maybe I need to pull it out again and start using it.
  17. Got text from DD tonight. Seems she had a wolf or coyote attack on the outdoor opossum cage. Lost 7 out of 9 of them. She said 4 survived but had to have one euthanized and then lost another one do to it's injuries. . Seems her DH used the wrong wire and it was just chewed through the wire. It was not thick enough nor heavy enough. So now they are working on something much better. She has the other 2 opossum in the squirrel cage for now since she doesn't have any squirrels right now. That was a sad moment. She now has cameras up in hopes of seeing what is hanging around her yard.
  18. Thank you Mother, I will let her know. Though she already has lime's disease that she got while hiking in the woods. She does have a flair up now and again but not as often as she used to. She just got started in it about 8 years ago. 4 years of college for this that her place of work paid for half of that schooling. She said this is going to be her retirement job. Though she is already in it and still working her job.
  19. Mother, my daughter is a Rehabilitator. Just hope she doesn't run into that issue. So far, she is just doing baby squirrels and opossum. She isn't fully set up at her new house yet. But is getting there, plus she works a job as well. I will make sure she knows about the bird flu and other animals getting it. Not sure that she is aware of it as she does tend to keep her head in the sand and won't watch the news as to what is going on.
  20. Haven't been on in a bit and hard to catch up. House is going a bit faster since I got on the owner of the company. But Friday they did not come. Waiting on painters now before they can finish up in main bathroom. Though it is coming along nicely. I need to pick a paint color for that bathroom. narrowed it down to 3 colors but still not sure. The floor is here and sitting in den. So, hoping that will get installed Mon. or Tues. After that is done, I can get my food all organized and put away. I have a 5 ft long closet in the hall that I use for a pantry. I am waiting on floor so I can get the food back into it. Lots of reorganizing to do there. I have wheat berries and other things to get set up for long term as well. So going to be a busy summer with garden and getting house back together. Starting to feel like some of you guys that are moving. Everything is packed up. But at least I don't have to load it and move it to another home. My grandson is living with me now and is doing great. He just needed guidance and a chance to get his act together. He is 20 years old but never had that guidance that his parents should have given him. So, he is learning it now. He is working on a budget, and he will start his new job in a week. He will be living with me for at least a couple of years. Told him to get car and other bills paid off and then save like crazy for new car as his is old and lots of miles on it. Not the best on gas either. But job is only about 13 miles from me, so that is a plus. Then he will be saving for what he hopes will be a small house with some land for garden and chickens. He plans on keeping me supplied with eggs and said that one day I might not be able to work a garden, so he plans on taken care of that for me. He did our back yard garden this year and did really well. He like his grandfather loves to garden and do yardwork. Though I did help him with the backyard garden, he did all the plowing and stuff. He wouldn't let me do any of the heavy lifting of fertilizer and such. Kitchen is done except touch up painting and the shoe molding around the floor. So, I can now start canning again. Grandson is going to help me get the meat out of freezer to thaw so I can get it canned. I have a Boston but I got for 99 cents a pound as they don't price them that cheap much any longer. Going to get that sliced up for grilling. GS loves it that way. And I still have lots of barbeque that I made and canned with the last 4 I bought. So this one will be fixed up for how GS likes it. Becca-Anne you are so right about no time limit on grieving. I still grieve for my DH. It has been 15 months now and it sometimes feels like it was yesterday. Glad your house is coming along well. Jeepers, hope all goes well for getting moved into new house. haven't gone back and read all the post I have missed, so lots of catching up and reading to do. But hope everyone is doing well and I know everyone has been very busy as of late with moving, gardening and getting everything together. Annarchy, was glad to see you made it home safe through those high winds and storms. Congratulations Wychwood & Dogmom on your retirements. I know you both will enjoy it. I retired in 2001. Stayed busier than I was working. Bigger garden and lots of canning and sewing as well. And a vacation to N. Carolina and other places as well. Have to have some relaxing time. But it has been almost 4 years since I have traveled anywhere. Maybe I will have that chance again but not at these gas prices.
  21. Homesteader, I think I think I would be done with the beans for a year also.
  22. Becca, Glad your dad came out of surgery and doing fine. I didn't see on here that he was having surgery. Praying for a quick recovery and glad he is home. Church this morning and then home to clean the cabinets down. All dust off the doors and stuff now. GS is getting ready to mop the kitchen floor right after dinner. Need to get started on that now. Time getting away from me. Took GS with me to store and they have signs up at Harris Teeter about the shortages on pastas but no limits. Bought a few boxes just in case to add to my pantry. Picked up some can fruit that was on sale also as well as chicken. GS went around and got his snacks. (Goldfish). At least they were on sale. No saltine crackers.
  23. Trying to stock chicken as I can for canning. The supply here is low but can still get chicken. Chicken in Feb. was more scarce than it is right now.
  24. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers on here.
