  1. Everything I've read, other than advertisements, has been really, really negative. Here's an awesome article: http://www.daveramsey.com/article/the-ugly-truth-of-reverse-mortgages/lifeandmoney_realestate/ Snip: The Lies RevealedThe U.S. Government Accountability Office last year found dozens of misleading marketing claims about reverse mortgages in materials distributed by several large lenders. We’ve already debunked the first two: Lifetime income – Income from a reverse mortgage stops if you sell your house or move. Never lose your home – You can lose your home if you can’t afford to pay taxes, insurance, or maintain the home. Never owe more than the value of your home – If your loan exceeds the value of your home, you or your heirs will have to make up the difference if the home isn’t sold when the loan is due. False implications that a reverse mortgage is a government benefit rather than a loan – Some lenders even use government logos to convince you to buy.
  2. THANKS!!! I've been doing a bit through textbroker. Pay is lousy, but I'm getting my writing chops back since it's been almost 3 decades since college! Going to sign up now!
  3. It's very pretty, but what a lot of work to install. Also, it's important to store your jars out of the light. Not only do I not have that much wall space, what wall space I do have I wouldn't want to have to cover with a dark sheet. It would look terrible. Now, if I had a basement, maybe this would be worth considering? But for now, I'll stick with my regular cabinets. They're a pain to rotate, but things are kept in the dark and out of sight.
  4. Careful with the peroxide. My vet got mad at me for treating one of my cat's abscesses with peroxide. According to him, the peroxide can keep the wound open and prevent it from closing and healing. Use an antibiotic ointment on the wound with pus and watch it closely. Hopefully your kitty won't need any antibiotics. Good luck!
  5. I just wanted to swing by and thank all of you for the wonderful ornaments! I took on extra work this season, threw out my back, and have been frantically trying to catch up ever since. Thank you all so much. I plan on catching up with all of you on December 26! (I've sort of taken 3 weeks off - which means I'll be busier than ever. sigh . . .) Merry Christmas and thank you all so much!
  6. Well, mine are going out really, really late. I've started them but I won't have time to finish them up until Thanksgiving weekend. I'm hoping to get them in the mail on Dec. 2. Sorry for the delay. First I procrastinated and then I got caught up in work.
  7. My family usually comes down but they are unable to this year. I'm fine with it, this is a crazy, hectic time for dh and I at work and it's nice not having overnight company stress on top of all of it. My dd's best friend and her mother are coming over and we'll cook the usual Thanksgiving only recipes. In fact, I got all of my grocery shopping finished up this morning. I get to stay out of the stores for the pre-Thanksgiving madness! Hurray!
  8. Safeway is 59cents a lb with a $25 dollar purchase. Save-Mart is buy a ham, get a free turkey.
  9. You should have a PP arriving from me as well. How much of a discount will you get for three years? Seriously. Let's take care of this! We know it won't be cheaper next year!
  10. I like it roasted, just like I cook turkey. My family won't eat it. I tried it out on them for Easter when I was researching raising ducks. That was the final straw in my protein raising plans. I dug up more lawn, planted more kale and we eat vegan several times a week.
  11. Wonderful news! I'm so happy for you!
  12. Do your research. Mine has shown that taking hydrogen peroxide internally is dangerous, sometimes even fatal. I would also question the need for making the over the counter hydrogen peroxide even stronger. I will often dilute the 3% because it is too strong for some uses, like using as a mouthwash. Are you talking about something different than the stuff in the brown bottle?
  13. Could someone pm me the paypal addy? Thanks!
  14. Did I tell you all that I bought the stuff to make mine?!? (No, I still haven't started!)
  15. I would like to help. Please post the paypal address. Maybe we can pay for two years?
  16. Cat, I got sucked into that last year. I bought a basic Costco membership for $55 because of our involvement in Relay for Life and Band Boosters. About 3 months in when I was buying 2 flat screen tv's for a fundraising event, I was approached to buy the business membership. For $100 a year, just $45 more, I would recoup all of my membership fees based on my purchasing history. I fell for it. I got a total of $36 back. That covered my $100 membership? If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Anyway, I've let my membership expire and have explained to my daughter that she needs to have another team member pick things up that she needs. Other than an instant decaf cappucino powder and some sandwich bread dh really loved, there is no reason to have a membership. The prices just aren't that great and there is no running in and out of Costco - constant lines means a long shopping times. I don't have time for that. Jeepers - I'm glad you got your way! Isn't it stupid that you have to argue with a business to allow them to let you spend money with them? An experience like that we make me want to take my money elsewhere.
  17. $300 for a water bath canner?!?!?
  18. This is something we all need to know and have in our preps. Here's some info I found: http://www.ehow.com/how_7802800_make-eye-wash-solution.html Instructions 1 Pour 2 cups of distilled water into the pot. 2 Bring the water to a boil. Add 1/2 tsp. of salt, and stir to dissolve it. 3 Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely before using. This solution may be used for up to two days before it should be discarded. Read more: http://www.ehow.com/how_7802800_make-eye-wash-solution.html#ixzz2jj5PqIfI I need to get some more distilled water. I tossed mine after my last bout of sinus congestion and neti pot fun!
  19. I would stick with distilled water to wash out any irritants and then let the eye heal itself. If it's not better in the morning, then definitely call in for medical advice.

    Laundry soap

I go back and forth. If I can get store bought laundry soap for 10 cents a load or less, I'll buy that. If I can't, I'll make my own at about 3 cents a load. The nice thing about homemade soap is that you don't have as much packaging to deal with, and the packaging you do have left, is usually just cardboard and easily recyclable. I'm still working on a really good score of Sun Powder I bought over 2 years ago, LOL. The 120 load buckets were on clearance for $6.99. Guess who bought 8 of them DH muttered the "H" word (hoarder) when he saw my stash of those! As for quality, sometimes my whites seem a little dingy with the homemade soap so I'll splash a bit of bleach in the water. But overall, I don't really notice much of a difference. The only soap I can't stand is Tide - that stuff makes me break out in a rash and the smell makes me ill. In fact, now that I've been couponing, I could have picked up Tide for only $2.00 a bottle this week at Walgreen's. I passed.
