  1. One EMP set, more here... http://www.freebooksy.com/ Anyone else notice that Amazon is switching it's "buy now with one click" and "read for free" buttons for different books? I wondered why I kept hitting the wrong one. They are sometimes switched.

    Fuzzy PIGS?????

My thoughts, too, which is why I posted the link.

    Fuzzy PIGS?????

Maybe I should have titled it "Furry"??? I've never seen this much curly hair on any pig before. I think he/she's a cutie.
  4. Heh - listening to Pandora before bed, running through Mrs S, and guess what song by Whitney Houston was starting *JUST* as I saw the title to this????????
  5. Saw this shared on FaceBook - I never saw a pig that grows "fur" like a sheep!!!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mangalica Apparently the only other pig breed similar to this is extinct. They are working to bring this one fully back.
  6. WHAAAT????? So in another forum, another thread, somebody started discussing ways to possibly make your own stored foods less attractive to "outsiders". If there was no electricity, things got seriously bad, people are hungry, looking to steal whatever they can, how could you know what you have but others don't? OK, if's food, they might not care, but in some cases your preps might be spared if they can't understand what you have, right? Home-canned foods might scare off some people, because they'd be afraid it might not be processed correctly. But commercially canned? From the other thread, without names, (unless you want to be credited, and then I'll edit it in). So there it is. If there are other references to this elsewhere in the forums, please let me know and I'll pull them in, too, like this. My life is extremely busy right now and full of stress, so I haven't had much time to read & post as I'd like to. But I'm still in several times a day, poking around, wanting to help.
  7. I talked to her tonight, since it's been a while since we've seen her. She is doing OK, but has a *lot* going on, and she would appreciate prayer on their behalf. Her computer's not great, but OK. I'll let her update as she wants when she gets back. She appreciates the kind thoughts and that we care, and so let's just keep praying for her. And for each other.
  8. DH goes in for a right-hip replacement tomorrow. I'm stressed out and, although I know God has us securely in His hands, I still worry. Last night our married daughter was telling me how it went when she helped out in her son's Kindergarten class last week. And surprised even herself, apparently. I used to help in school as often as they'd let me. It let me see how my children were being educated, I got to know the Principal, staff, and teachers, and I got to know their classmates. It was a good thing for us. And much later they recommended me for a type of Kindergarten aide when one quit at another school in the district, recommending me *because* of the way I handled myself with others. Especially with the kids - I always had them having fun as they learned. So my daughter wrote this for me last night... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was gonna tell you... Had one of those "oh crap, I'm turning into my mother" moments last week when I was helping at the school... But it was a really good thing. In the second group that came back to do their craft with me, there was a little girl named Alene... She couldn't spell her own name or really form any letters... Couldn't cut with scissors... When we started the craft the other kids in her group even told me "Alene can't spell her name... She just doesn't know how to do anything." You could tell she was so discouraged. So I took extra time to hold her hand while we made the letters and hold her hands when we used the scissors (despite her begging to just DO it FOR her). Every time we finished part of it I was careful to tell her what a great job she did, and every time you could see her perk up just a bit. When it came time to get the colored paper out (it was an ice cream cone with the colors in a certain order) I asked the kids what came first... BROWN! So naturally I go for the bright pink paper and start handing it out... "Okay here's the brown..." Alene spoke up and said "that's not brown that's PINK!!!!" and of course all the kids were laughing. I told her she was SO SMART I couldn't even fool her. SHE knew her colors! She just beamed. And what do you know... She cut out the next three things all by herself and did a great job. I made sure to tell her in front of all the kids what a great job she did all on her own, and by the time they left the room, they had all told her "good job" and "you CAN do it". It felt pretty good. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I told her that I read it to her Dad - he said "She IS turning into her Mom!" LOL And so she said... "I KNOW!!!!!! Ugh. At least so far it's all the good stuff."
  9. I can relate - Hope it all goes smoothly and everything turns out GREAT!
  10. OldMaineBear (OMB) was a sweetheart, too. After he died, I kept his DD on my FB feed, although we really don't interact much. But when I saw a couple of Mrs S friends writing about him on FB on his birthday, I captured a screenshot and shared it with her. It made her happy, and she thanked me.
  11. I see on FaceBook that today was her birthday. I miss her so much. But I'm so happy that she left us SO MUCH great sharing here at Mrs S and at other places. The Wayback Machine has even more. I left this on her FB page, and it fits here, too.

    EEK

We're getting ready for our 40th. LOTS of us look like Grandmas! And we wear it proudly. Oddly enough, I have been told that my gray hair is now "trendy" and "hot". Apparently young girls actually DYE their hair like mine, which is natural.... I've been asked it I have dyed it.

  20. http://moneysavingmom.com/tag/free-ebooks Preventing identity theft, composting, more...
  21. I did that with a couple of small cardboard boxes the right size for me. I figured if they got messed up, I'd recycle them & get another. I like mine for bags of nuts and for cheese that I have vacuum sealed, as they are in various sizes and shapes.
  22. I thought about putting this elsewhere, but the Sunporch is kind of an "all-purpose" place. It's partly introduction, partly the starting point, partly just fun. And so I figured this article might fit best here - where it all begins. WHY do we think about "preparing" for stuff? Why think about silly, it-can't-happen-to-me stuff? Greece is having massive financial problems. Never mind that when West Germany had massive debt after WW2, Greece forgave some of their debt and helped them. You might think Germany today might remember and offer a measure of grace, but we will see if that happens. This is today's reality for many.... 23. More goodies... http://moneysavingmom.com/tag/free-ebooks Only a few are still free this morning, but they look like good ones.
  24. Is that Wendy DeWitt? Hadn't seen those yet... I really like my FoodSaver. They have new bags now that you can freeze stuff in, and then just pop them in the microwave to cook/reheat. They automatically open vents to let the steam out. I want to try them this summer before LilDD goes back to school. I can cook her some "home-cooked" meals for her to eat there. If you sign up for their newsletter, you get emails about their "deals". I bought those special bags and some regular rolls in a good deal.... I'm pretty sure it was buy-one-get-two-free. They were trying to get people to try them.
  25. More goodies - one Amish twins... http://www.bookbasset.com/2015/06/25/its-mine/ http://www.bookbasset.com/2015/06/25/plants-go-boom/
