  1. Glad you found her in time. It's hard losing animals, especially when you've named them. (Funny how that works, eh? When I first realized that truth, it gave me a whole new perspective on the lines in the Bible where it says God "knows us by name". )
  2. Right there with you all... Me, too! I start, and then something happens and I'm like the perpetual dog joke... OK - OK - OK --- SQUIRREL!!!!!!!! It's more difficult when you have others who expect stuff from you. And priorities get changed around according to *others'* needs. New Grandson's emergency needs trumped everything last weekend, but I'm looking ahead to needing to start getting LilDD ready to return to college. We're doing the dental visit, the eye check-up, etc. Didn't help that I had the medical issues, too, but at least those happened *before* the baby's needs. And at least I know my heart should be good for a while. Hubby wants to go with his Dad to a museum in MI they've wanted to visit, and it closes in October. He has plenty of unused vacation time. I gotta admit - a few days or a week of time without "taking care" of his needs would go a long way towards catching up on the "big jobs" I should have done long, long ago. Not at all a desire to be "rid" of him, just saying that it's tiring starting something and then having to switch gears to make supper, do laundry, etc.
  3. More here, including an Amish one... http://www.bookbasset.com/2015/06/23/roll-out/
  4. Rushing through, I haven't had time to explore Twilight's question on the other thread. YET... Here's one with an "Amish" book for some who enjoy those, plus more. Sorry it's just a link to them all. http://www.bookbasset.com/2015/06/11/chicken-tricks/
  5. Yeah, I had heard that the IRS won't call. Mine didn't say anything about my personal info, but tried to get pushy. I told him that we have NEVER even been late paying taxes, and that's when I laughed at him. I wonder if they are monitoring H&R Block, hacked into it from afar....?
  6. Oh, WOW, Annarchy! SO smart of you to keep all of your paperwork and be prepared! Maybe they count on people NOT saving them???? Jeepers, I got one of those. I asked him why his phone number shows up as "US Government". He repeated that he was from the IRS. I laughed and told him that I was SO SORRY he has this job. He tried to tell me that the police were gonna show up at my door. I laughed again and hung up. Idiots....
  7. My 80+-yr-old Aunt called me on the phone to have me look up some medication her doctor gave her. He handed it to her, told her, "Take it - it's a free sample!" and rushed her out of his room. Turns out that it's DANGEROUS for her because she's diabetic. It causes strokes and possibly heart attacks. She followed up our discussion by taking it to her pharmacist, who told her NO WAY should she EVER take it! Her doctor also gave her some questionnaire about the possibility of nursing home placement. Boy, did THAT make her mad! I sure wouldn't go to a doctor who would do that. But then, I never like doctors who just throw meds at you for every single little thing.
  8. I figured Mt_Rider would pop in & tell you from a more experienced point of view, but apparently she's still having problems. We only had wild ones, but I would guess they could go in when your chickens do.
  9. Recipes, gardening, chemical-free cleaning, and "frugal simplicity", among others... Just realized not all are still free, though. http://moneysavingmom.com/tag/free-ebooks
  10. Yup, Momo... Maybe JUST a "teeny tiny"!!!! I guess I'm just wondering how everyone is. I miss so many who used to post, and I just want to encourage a bit of "real" conversation. Life just keeps us all SO busy!
  11. I know I'm staying overnight tonight with the grand-kids while Mom & Dad recover from childbirth. I can't access Mrs S from the laptop I use there. So I'll check back in as soon as I can from home.
  12. Once you're logged in, go to the top right and click on the little arrow thingy that drops down a menu beside your user name. Click on "My Settings". Then over to the left you'll see a column labeled "Profile Settings". Email and Passwords is the first on the list. Click on that and you should have the option to change it. If you have any problems, let me know and we'll see what else I might be able to do on my end.
  13. This page has some Prepper and household stuff with some fiction. http://www.bookbasset.com/2015/05/24/here-chickie-chickie/ This one has some Amish fiction, which some here really enjoy... http://www.bookbasset.com/2015/05/24/the-long-search/ This one has a set of photography books and some fiction... http://www.bookbasset.com/2015/05/24/jog-sit-or-run/
  14. I'm just tired, so tired, a lot these days. Life keeps us all busy. Would you care to give an update? Where are you on this journey? Have you taken steps to be more prepared for any "tough times" in your life? Is life beating you down so it's too difficult right now? What lessons have you learned? Are you teaching others in your life? How? What are you teaching them? What might you see as your most difficult challenges? Your greatest achievements? Looking back, what have you overcome? What do you need to continue to work on? I don't say it often enough, but each person who peeks in here - I pray for you, too. I ask God to help you, to encourage you, to give you hope and a feeling of "can-DO!"
  15. kappydell, if you can see this, check the email you associate with this site. Let me know if you have more trouble.
  16. Annarchy, should I try resetting it for her & trying that way in? I'm home today...
  17. And more today - http://moneysavingmom.com/tag/free-ebooks If you scroll down & check, *some* of the older ones are still free, too.
  18. Another bunch - http://www.bookbasset.com/2015/05/18/saved-by-hunger/
  19. My family doesn't "do" presents very often for me. (Long story) But I was surprised by a local grocery store Sunday when they offered a free carnation to every woman leaving the store. :-) I chose a pink one.
  20. Sounds like my Hubby! And he amazes me by figuring things out more and more by computer! He says you can find out how to fix just about anything on YouTube! YAY Momo's DH!!!!!
  21. There's at least a good gardening set in this bunch. One I saw wasn't still free... http://www.bookbasset.com/2015/05/10/tushy-on-the-couch/
  22. Sorry, I'm exhausted today and I can't take time to post all these as links. Pam has some really good books posted today - Prepper guide for women, Simple straw bale gardening, Aquaponics, etc. http://pamspriderecommendations.com/
  23. No problems, and I thought it tasted pretty good. :-)
  24. Still cleaning and rearranging my foods, and I found canned chicken (small cans like tuna) and canned oriental veggies mix dated 2012. There was no bulging, rust, or dents in them. I know they've been stored correctly. I bought an orange sauce to try with it, making it a kind of sweet-and-sour mix. I had a "backup plan" if it wasn't any good. I opened the 2 chicken cans and the veggies and dumped them both together in a pan. They both smelled completely normal, and looked fine. I boiled them together for 5 minutes, then I drained them and added the jar of orange sauce. In the meantime, I made (fresh) rice. DH's only complaint was that he didn't care for the orange flavor. He would have preferred a more traditional sweet-and-sour, or a Teriyaki - based flavor. 2012 is pushing it for me, but I wanted to *know*. So I figured I would make it a test and I could share my experiences with you people. And I did tell DH *before* he tried it.
  25. Yeah, there's no way I'd touch the raccoon. I'm *very* careful even around strange cats that come around. Animals are just too unpredictable. Today is calmer, and I'm puttering around the house. Wish all the housework would just DO ITSELF!!!!!
