  1. Can I count DH on the treadmill tomorrow at the Doctor's office? Maybe it will rub off on me.
  2. You remember my post about my deceased Uncles garage sale? Well, today when I drove by they had completely moved out. There were several boxes and trash cans out at the curb for garbage pick up. (Which was today) I happened to see my Uncle's old bookcase which was one of those items that had been repainted and passed all thru the family many times. I asked DH to stop and I would get it. Anyway, DH noticed a bunch of photos in a nearby can. I couldn't believe it! There were at least a 100 professional portrait type pictures taken from approx. 1900 to 1930. They were all of my ex Aunts family. Some were even taken in Sweden before the family emigrated. One was even a tin type photo. I just couldn't leave them there. My ex Aunt has 2 children and I'm sure they would want those pictures of their great and grgr grandparents. We fished them all out of the trash and now I'll have to look up her kids to pass them on. Fortunately, I know their names but they both live out of town. I'm going to have to do some detective work to find them. Unfortunately there wasn't a SINGLE picture of my Uncles family . Darn! BTW it started to pour rain right after we got all the pix in the car. What a stroke of good timing. I can't believe that this man would do that to his wife's memory and his stepchildren. Sure hope I never run into him anywhere!
  3. Hope you enjoyed the beautiful day today! What a lucky birthday girl to have such nice weather. Don't tell Snow about how it was in the mid 70's here.
  4. There's nothing better than a meatloaf sandwich! Mmmmmmm
  5. Sounds like a tip from Madge!!!!!!!!!!! Who else remembers Madge?
  6. Our neighbors did it once. They dug a pit in the yard and I remember it took a long time to roast. I think they started it the day before the barbecue. I remember it was delish too!
  7. Yesterday we spent the day with DS and his kids. It was beautiful so we were all outside. DH picked up a dandelion and ate the flower off of it. Princess came running up to me hollering about him eating a yucky weed. Tooo funny. I think she was disappointed that he didn't get in trouble for it!
  8. Even though my cousins and I are not close, I know someday a good opportunity will arise to give them some little things I bought. Two of my cousins live nearby but everyone in my Dad's family is kind of "detached" from each other. I really think that the day will come (maybe another funeral?) when these little tidbits will be appreciated. Loggie, I'm the same way. It's not the monetary value of the item that counts. It's the sentimental value. Mayjobie I know what you mean about sorting things out. Since I lived out of town my sister did all the deciding. All she sent me was an envelop of pictures that were only of me. Only pix with no one else in them. Happy ..so glad you got that Bible. They are truly a sentimental item with great memories.
  9. My Uncle's wife died in 1978. He remarried a widow in 1980. He died in 1988 and his widow then remarried. She died last year and her widower is now engaged. Okay, here's the weird part..all of these people have lived in my Uncle's home. The house went up for sale last week. It sold in 2 days. I noticed today that they were having a garage sale so I went over. So strange. They didn't know who I was so I was browsing around. All of their things are for sale. It was like my Uncle and Aunts lives were up for sale. Their things were now just junk that my ex Aunts second hubby couldn't wait to unload. I bought everything that I knew was my blood relatives. So sad. I wondered why my cousins had been "aced" out of everything. I know their stepmom had not shared anything with his kids when he had died. Now, a man and woman that none of them knew were unloading their family items. Anyway I bought a few little things that I thought had some sentimental value to pass on to my cousins. Just goes to show that life has many twists and turns. Also reminds you to make sure to write down things you want your family to have in case you die. In these days of blended families it is very important. My cousins have nothing from their parents except for the few little things I got today. So sad.
  10. A beautiful warm sunny morning today. DH and I decide to forget about all the laundry I have piled up and forget about putting everything back into the freshly painted kitchen. We are going to play hooky. So, we gathered up our poles and I was changing into my "lucky" fishing outfit when the phone rang. DS needed us to drive to his house and babysit the Princesses. Of course, we dropped everything and raced to town. Any excuse to spend time with the girls. DS had to take his wife to the DR. Remember the strep they all had for my birthday last weekend? Well DIL was getting worse instead of better. Turns out hers was immune to the antibiotic the Dr gave her last Friday. Kind of funny that everyone else in the family responded to the original antibiotic. Hopefully she will finally get better cuz DS is wore out being Mr. Mom! I'm still waiting on my party!! When DH and I walked in the house we put on those little painters filter masks as a joke. Like a piece of paper could keep out germs. They are still sick but they thought it was funny. A good sign. No matter how pretty it is tomorrow I will HAVE to do laundry. We are about out of clean clothes. The fish will just have to wait I guess. Cat, don't know if it's true or not but a friend of mine who owns an ISP and repairs puters told me that &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& are now using used/reconditioned parts in their units. He said that Dell isn't. Take care all
  11. I love stuffed cabbages and pierogies. My only problem is that I can't make just a few of either one. I usually end up making enough for about 10 people when I get to making them.
  12. Cats always eat the fish bones. Don't you watch cartoons? For a change of sauce for salmon patties try a melted cheese sauce. Dh even likes salmon patties when I put cheese sauce on it.
  13. Okay Snow. Since you are temporarily out of action we will have to credit you double miles for any hobbling you might do in the gym.
  14. Haiku written by cats Haiku Schmaiku Yawn, stretch Leave me alone I'm busy resting!
  15. Thanks for the wishes!! Since everyone but DH and I have strep throat we are postponing our family birthday dinner for a few days. I treated myself to some strawberry shortcake at lunch. ( I played like it was the cheesecake my DIL usually makes me) Mmmmmm, now what shall I treat myself to tonight? Let you know when I decide.
  16. With all that has been going on in this year so far I thought it would be good to revive this topic and BTTT. In order to stay healthy and sane it is very important to have these "little escapes". We all need them. Even if it's just something as small as getting away with a book for a little while. Or a small indulgence like a slice of cheesecake. Or maybe a little meditation/prayer. What works for you?
  17. Oooops sorry Homey..I've dropped the shovel in all this snow and now I can't find it..
  18. Wow Dee..up to freezing. Bikini weather for you! Your quilt squares look beautiful. Someday I will start mine too!! BeccaAnne sure hope your sore throat isn't strep. DS and his family all have it right now. Poor babies!! Glad your DH is talking about his problems. As to Miss Snow, expect a little something in your mailbox soon. Mailed it this morning. Beautiful day. Tomorrow will be even warmer. MIght even try some fishing if nothing else comes up! Should have the kitchen paint done by then. Stay warm all.
  19. Sounds good but my DH MUST have mashed potatoes whenever I fix kraut. I guess it's a buckeye thing. You have to put the kraut on top of the mashed potatoes. He thinks I'm strange..just because I put ketchup on my kraut! Hmmmmmmm.
  20. What is all this "Snow stuff" I keep hearing about? Actually it is raining here and if it had been just a few degrees colder last night we would have the big mess Tennessee does right now. DH and I have been painting the kitchen. Saw paint on sale yesterday and spring fever set in. We have a list of to do's a few pages long but somehow we pushed this to the top. I guess it's because it's immediate gratification. It seems like everyone around here is sick. DH and I have somehow both evaded all illness this winter. I normally don't catch bugs anyway but DH is a smoker and he seems to get things easily. A real nasty upper respiratory virus has nearly closed down some local schools. Princess is just getting over strep. Yuk.. You can start feeling sorry for me. SInce the kitchen is tore up DH has decided we will dine out tonight. I vehemently disagree but to be nice I will go along with him. LOL... Hope Dee and BeccaAnne are keeping warm. So glad Snow has quit spinning. Homey, I'm with you in spririt out there in the cold shovelling your driveways....
  21. Patrick and Bridget came here from Galway about 1905. He came first, and saved money. Then he sent for Bridget about a year later. The ride in the cheap section of the ship was not much fun. They had five children who survived childhood and ended up being my Mom's grand parents.
  22. I'll have to take your word for it since I've never smelled a buzzards breath! Seriously though the recipe looks delish. Maybe I'll try it on our fresh pork chops we just got back from the processor. Yummy.
  23. Except for replacing the color on those nasty little strands of hair that persist in being a different color,I am not very vain..I seldom wear makeup either. I only wear light makeup for special occasions. I keep my hair simple too. Just wash and wear for me. Life is too short to primp alot and all that heat and chemicals are not good for your hair, face and health. Besides DH's eyesight is not too good anymore either so I don't need to!
  24. Aha! Now I know why Suzzee didn't make it to fit chat tonight. She was in the corner. Stuffing her face with birthday...carrots. LOL. Happy Birthday!
