  1. This week has been awful so far. Hopefully it ends better than it started. I had to go to the ER for the first time in my life. My hip/upper thigh was killing me. The pain was unbearable. They had to use 3 injected types of painkillers before I got any relief. Apparently demerol doesn't work on me. Dilaudid finally gave me some relief. They took x rays and a ct scan. I had never had a scan before. Anyhow they said my back is in terrible shape and i will need surgery. This was a shock to me since I never had a hint of back trouble. Of course, I have to go to a specialist to be sure. I am dreading dealing with this but it has to be done. I never hurt so much in my life! After a pleasant weather wise week it is back to hot and humid summer today. We enjoyed our respite. The garden is slowing down. The only thing still going is the tomatoes. We had a major water leak so I am dreading my water bill. I'll also be having Dr. and dentist bills too. Grrr.
  2. You are doing so well on your miles with all you have going on! Has OldPine got his CT test results back yet?
  3. I guess we are stuck in the hot, rainy summer weather for a while longer. It is very humid and nearly everyone's gardens have been ruined. We still have 3 great tomato plants so I am glad of that. We have to go to the big city tomorrow for DH's cancer checkup. I dread going anywhere when it is so hot and humid. Thank God for a/c. I don't know how folks made it through the dog days of summer without it. Even my dogs want to stay inside. The poor border collie gets hot easy with all that thick black fur. I love the photo Christy! MtnRider I am handicapped and I am soo careful not to hurt myself. If I ever lost the limited mobility I have, DH would not be able to help me much. He has gotten lighter and frailer and I have gotten bigger...lol! I am so glad I can transition myself from furniture to wheelchairs etc. Have a great week all and keep cool and safe!
  4. For their 80th anniversary KK will sell you a second dozen of glazed donuts for 80 cents. You must buy the first dozen at regular price to get the special deal. This Friday only. Check your local store to make sure they are participating.
  5. I have had a frustrating day but it could have been worse. I need to see my Doctor but he is out of town. My insurance only covers a pre-approved Dr. on their list. I can't switch Doc's without a hassle. It irks me since I usually only go once a year to get my drugs refilled so I don't cost them much money. It has been hot as heck for 2 weeks now. DH and I are both miserable and hanging inside as much as possible. A friend of ours died yesterday. This is the third friend/neighbor of ours who died since April. None of them were expected. This last poor guy was stung to death by yellow jackets or wasps. He was only around 50 and in great shape. We never know when it will be us or a loved one. His poor wife just had breast cancer surgery a few weeks ago and is undergoing chemo right now. She has way too much to deal with. I can't imagine. We are up to our ears in gorgeous juicy tomatoes. Hope it lasts all summer long. I love making BT sammies for breakfast. Yummy. I hope everyone is feeling healthier! It stinks when your body is not working right.
  6. My foot is hurting with sympathy pains right now..owwie. It has rained most of the day here which is fine with me since we have no outdoor activities planned. It also makes me feel safer knowing the ground is wet since alot of folks shoot fireworks around here and I won't have to worry about a dry field getting set on fire. I did cook alot of DH's favorite foods since I want to keep him from losing any more weight. Since I am on a diet it is really testing my willpower. We smoked some ribs. I made a batch of potato salad, some really good baked beans and a pineapple upside down cake. Tomorrow I am making a big batch of stuffed peppers and freezing most of them. We are having another bumper crop of green peppers again this year. I got an estimate on a badly needed new roof. YIKES! I am trying to keep my cool..both physically and mentally right now..lol. Hope you all enjoy your 4th!
  7. BTTT It is almost free Slurpee day for 2017 at 7-11 stores. Get a free small one from 11 am to 7 pm on July 11th!
  8. Check here and see if there is any free bowling in your area. www.kidsbowlfree.com
  9. Our first head of cabbage was picked this am and is now happily fermenting. For some strange reason I have never made my own kraut. Also strangely, DH did the chopping for me and he never gets in the kitchen. I guess his Germaness was coming out. lol
  10. We had our first full size tomatoes on Monday (DH's birthday) I made the best BLT"S for breakfast. There is nothing like a fresh home grown mater!
  11. It's hot here today too. I made the mistake of doing errands yesterday afternoon and it was miserable outside. Summer is here! I'm doing laundry in the basement right now. I always wait until it is a chore and I have several loads to do. We are trying to tie up all the loose ends around here. I don't know if we will ever get things completely finished. DH will be 80 and is really slowing down( for him). He still gets alot more done than most 80 year olds though. I was gonna have a Bday party for him but I don't know if I am up to all the cooking etc. I'm much younger than him, but it is so tiring to do things from a wheelchair. I am anxiously awaiting my maters. So far we have only harvested cherry tomatoes. Maybe another week or two for the big uns. Have a great day all!
  12. I found out that all of our local newspapers now charge for obituaries or death notices. The last time I had to place one about 10 years ago it was free for just a basic "facts" version. Now the local little paper is 35$ and the big city paper starts at $50 on up. On top of it none of these papers are daily anymore so you have to schedule services ( and death too.. lol) to their printing schedule for maximum exposure.
  13. I know it is hard to get enough exercise with Old PIne ailing. Keep it up Snow! I hope Minnie and Old Pine get good Dr. reports today.
  14. I go to about 4 different grocery stores. Most of them I go to monthly. I have a master list in my head of where everything is cheapest or the best. I go to Publix normally once a week on Wednesday. I shop the BOGO's, use coupons (that they double) and get the Sr. discount. I usually go to Aldis every week or two. I buy bread, eggs, cheese, DH's snack foods and some sale produce there. I use Wal Mart on my monthly trip to fill items that are seldom on sale or just not available elsewhere. Things like a special diet bread I eat, salsa etc. If a local grocery store has an exceptional sale and I happen to be nearby, I will stop in for that item only. It has to be a good deal for me to bother to stop in...like when pork chops are 99 cents a pound I will get about 10 pounds and freeze them. Some Great Value products are really great and some are actually more expensive or lesser quality. You just have to try each product and then remember which ones are worth it and what isn't. Our WalMart quit price matching way back. I never really used it cuz it was a hassle to me to keep the ads in my purse all the time. I know they used to do it because I use to see women show the clerk the ads. It really isn't time consuming if you can be organized. It isn't everyone's personality to be organized though..DH sure isn't and he readily admits it.
  15. I have had an exceptionally busy and trying past few weeks. I haven't had time to even check in here enough. (Fortunately none of it entailed DH's health problems) My computer even went on the fritz which would taker a long story to explain. Suffice it to say that HP warranties are useless to me. On the sad side my best friend's husband had a heart attack while they were driving and they ran into their own house. He died instantly and she was darn lucky that she was only lightly injured. She is truly alone now since they had no children together. Since she is wealthy, his children by another woman are trying to get into HER money and have caused her extra stress at this hard time. Several important things have broken around here. We built this place about 20 years ago and it seems that is the life expectancy of every appliance and system. Unfortunately there is no money for all these things. I am pretty stressed myself right now. Another good friend had breast cancer surgery 2 weeks ago. She is in her late 40's and all the news has been bad. It is in her nodes and her options are not good. She has very little family support since they are so wrapped up in themselves, Her hubby has used this excuse to back away from her when she needs him the most. I am so sad for her but all I can do is support her. Life can be so tough for so many...
  16. DH is outside painting the barn (At least the lower half since he can't stand on a ladder anymore). I am using the quiet time to get online. We have got all of our veggies in and things are growing great. We already have lettuce, basil, and cilantro. I will have bell peppers ready to eat next week. Yum! We didn't do as much of a garden this year. It is just to hard for us to keep up with it health wise. I am trying to clean and organize all my kitchen storage. I have made a dent and hope to finish it off this afternoon.n Have a great day all!
  17. We had a fresh salad of cut lettuce greens for lunch. It was so good! I still have to wait a bit for some maters though!
  18. Sorry I've been gone awhile. Between my browser not letting me in and a best friends death I have been unable to get on. May 6th is Free Comic Book Day for kids. Comic stores are giving free comic books that day only. Find a participating store near you www.FreeComicBookDay.com
  19. If you feel the earth move just a bit..it is Momo doing the very happy dance. We finally have water again. Our pipe burst underground sometime Wednesday and it took until now to get a friend with equipment to dig down four feet and find the leak. What a relief. Other than that we had a nice day. Dear son and family took me to lunch for a belated birthday meal. It was delicious Vietnamese food. I enjoyed it. The girls had made me homemade greeting cards and pictures. I need much more wall space to display them! It is nice to see we are getting things back to normal here at MrsS. Thanks to all of those who work and maintain this site!
  20. You can't EVER have too much purple..lol.
  21. I hear you about the doctors. It is very frustrating to deal with most of them..and then their staffs..grrr We have had a rocky 2017 too but it could have been worse. Several friends have died and DH has been sick. I am so sorry you lost Petey. That is hard to bear.
  22. He is slowly gaining some weight! He has also quit smoking. On the other hand he is sleeping alot. He is taking 2 daily naps. I hope it is only temporary and could be a result of no nicotine to give him a kick.
  23. I miss alot of people! It will be great when this gets fixed. Thanks for all your work Annarchy.
