  1. I am so tired right now I don't know if I am coming or going. GS is still having pain and wants pain meds like clock work. Nope every 6 hours. As it is a narcotic. He can take Ibuprofen or tylenol in between. I got him drinking a lot more water finally. Hoping right now he is settling down again. this is going to be a long week. Hope the kidney doctor calls tomorrow.
  2. Becca Anne, once you learn to can it will be easy and you will be hooked. GD and SIL got here around 11 am. SIL went to check on his parents and help them with some things and took them to grocery store. GS had not gotten here yet and sent text that he would be here around 2 pm. Told DD that that means he will be here around 3:30 and that is when he showed up. So DD and I went shopping to a couple of small shops looking for baby things and then stopped off and got some dinner. We bought that home to eat just as GS got here. So we ate and sat around just having a good old time and then GS started having bad stomach pain. It kept getting worse and DD said he was doing his drama. They left to go home and he wasn't getting any better. So took him to ER. He has a UTI, dehydrated and a kidney stone. So much for drama. But that is how DD has always been with the kids. They get sick and they get ok you will live get over it. GS is staying with me tonight. They gave him codeine in hospital twice and before leaving they gave him IV antibiotic, a different pain med, flomax to help him go to bathroom more to pass the stone and another med. He's not hurting right now. But I had to laugh when he called and told his mother he was having a baby and it was going to be a boy. Then he told her about the kidney stone. They say they are much worse on men than women. Poor child was doubled over. When they called for him to come back into the ER he told them he wanted me in there with him. So I sat back in there with him. This child is 21 years old and wanted grandma to stay with him. That was funny. I think he was a bit scared that something really bad was wrong with him. This is bad enough. We got out of the ER a little after 10 pm and I am tired but just can't sleep. Fixed GS a light dinner and then cleaned up. Guess I just need time to wind down before going to bed.
  3. Lets hope all goes well with the permits. I had my fuse box replaced a few years ago to the newer type. Had a master electrician do the job and no permit was needed and it is still under warranty. When I was having the bathrooms redone. The pipes in wall were corroded. They were cast iron. They have all been replaced with PVC pipe and still no permit was needed. All done by lic. professional plumbers and all under warranty. No permit. The company that did the remodel had an inspection before the new walls went up.
  4. Wow Jeepers, it never ends with those people. Wonder why the permits. I didn't need permits for anything I had done because it was all inside the house. Only time I would need a permit is when I am doing things outside the house other than the shingles on roof. Had to have one for the driveway demo. That was a mess. Did that in 2019 as my driveway caved in. 2 huge sinkholes. I have a very large driveway and then some. Maybe it is because of insurance paying for it or it is different in every state.
  5. Just now seeing this. Hope you had a wonderful day.
  6. Worked out in garage for a while this morning. Cleaned off most of one shelving unit and moved my canning jars on one of the shelves. I think that will work much better. Then dusted some and cleaned floors. Moved the rest of the canned water into pantry from under bed. Got a text from DD today. She will be here tomorrow. Seems GD and GS are fighting over one of the dresser's I am giving to GD. I told GS he could have one of the dressers several weeks ago before I told GD she could have the bedroom suit minus one dresser. She was ok with that till they rented a house. And now GD wants both of them. I am not getting involved but DD said she told GS she would buy him a dresser. So will see what happens. GD will be moving into her house on Aug. 1st. So she is not getting the bedroom suit out till then. So now I have to wait a few more weeks before I can get the rest of house back together again. DD thinks GS will lose his apartment within a few months of moving into it. At the rate he is spending money right now she could be right. So she thinks both dressers should go to GD because if he gets kicked out of his apartment, they could dump his things on the street. I just hope he stops spending and saves money. Either way he will not be moving back into my house. I love him but not going through all that mess again. And I want my house back. I have housed and stored all their stuff way to long. This is not a AAA storage unit. I have stored everything from my DD to every one of 4 out of 5 grandchildren. I decided enough is enough. They all now have their own places to live and to store their own stuff they don't seem to really want but don't want to get rid of. So I have decided they will either store it in their own house or get rid of it. It's no longer coming here. I can't clean my house with all the stuff they drop off here. Getting closets cleaned out and only my things will be in them from now on. I am doing some big time down sizing of not just furniture but a lot of linen, and kitchen items I no longer use. Plus a lot more. Still need to get into the shed before it gets much hotter. Temps in the low 90's and cooler nights. Have had rain again last night and some sprinkling a bit earlier this evening. Not sure yet why DD is coming in tomorrow. I thought she was coming in when GD got her house and then in August when GS gets his apartment. GS also will be here to wash clothes. Going to be a busy day with kids tomorrow.
  7. Hope you had a wonderful birthday Mili. Yes, I'm late for the cake. Hope it was a great day.
  8. Seems like stamps just went up. Jeepers, Your house will be back together before you know it now that everything is ready to go. Looks like my house after the construction was done. Den had no walls as when they took down the panelling there was no wall board. So they had to sheet rock it. Bathrooms were the same. After they took out all that tile they had to replace the sheetrock with waterproof sheetrock. Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July. GS came over and we had a cookout and then later taught him how to cook raw spanish peanuts. Fixed ribs on grill, corn on cob, baked beans and garlic bread and watermelon.
  9. Jeepers, I am so sorry to hear that. Your GS has been through a lot of death in his young 6 years of life. I just hope that his birthday will be a special one with all that is going on right now. I sat down on the couch for a bit to watch the afternoon news and fell asleep sitting straight up. Woke up 3 hours later. Haven't done that in a long time. But I haven't been sleeping as well lately. Guess I just have to much on my mind with things going on around here. Won't have to water the garden now. We had thunderstorms and a lot of rain. I think it is slowing down now and passing through.
  10. The Ocean Blue brand of fish oil doesn't leave a fishy taste and no burping. It does not cause me to have heart burn either. I found out about it many years ago. My doctor I had then, had me try one that he was selling and swore it would not cause heartburn. Well it did and it was bad. So that was when I decided to look into it and found the Ocean Blue fish oil. It's not cheap but well worth it.
  11. Got back from farm market a while ago. Didn't get much. No cantaloupe. But did get watermelon, corn on cob, a couple of tomatoes as mine are still green and a few other non veggie stuff that I needed. GS will be here tomorrow for a cookout. So getting ready for that. He doesn't like hotdogs much but will eat a hamburger. So I decided on ribs for tomorrow. I haven't had ribs in a long, long while and GS loves ribs so I will fix that on grill. Not sure if GD is still in town or not. They are supposed to go back home tomorrow I think. They are looking hard for a house here near the Coast Guard base. Hope they find something soon. I think the all the kids will be here both next weekend and the weekend after. So will be a busy couple of weeks and then I can get my house in order. GS is working on a plan to better organize my spices. He is really coming a long way from the way he had been acting. I guess living on his own was a better option for him. But at least I gave him that starting chance. It is very hot outside today. Can't work out there unless it cools off this evening. I will have to water everything again. Jeepers the reason I am wanting to put a small air conditioner in the shed is because it gets very hot in there. I had some plastic battery operated candles in there and the heat melted them. And with the wheelchair and things the leather can get sticky and that is hard to clean when that happens. So just trying to protect what I have which is a lot of preps and now the medical equipment as well. Not keeping food or vits. in there. I keep those in closet in the house and pantry. Mt. Rider, where your mom lives it gets very hot there as well. So she needs to be careful outside as not to get dehydrated. Flowers need watering just about everyday as it is so humid if they are in pots. Becca Anne I know you are glad to be back home again and your garden was doing so well. But I also know you had a really great time with new grandchild and site seeing. I am hoping next year to be able to take a trip. Not just to visit my cousins as that is part of the plan but also to just maybe hike through the mountains while I am in Lynchburg. Maybe Luray caverns and other sites while I am there. Going to try to get a couple of cousins to take the trip with me. It will be a lot of fun.
  12. I have been taken those vits. for years now. But on the fish oil I have to be careful because of reflux. I have to order the ocean blue brand of fish oil as it is the only one that I am able to use without getting reflux. This is all good stuff to have as we are entering into and age where our medical field is as my GS puts it wac.
  13. I am prepared for hurricanes around here. Haven't had a blizzard in many years and hope it stays that way. Though we now have potential for tornadoes. Not as ready for those as there are no underground areas to go such as a basement or something. BOB stays in the car. And I have somethings by door to grab if I must leave house in a hurry. We don't have the fires here like in all those other places but can get the smoke at times. We have actually been very fortunate with the hurricanes for a few years now. We would get the heavy rain and some wind but not much in the way of damage or loosing power. Some trees in other places would have falling down but other than that nothing major. But not letting my guard down either. Annarchy, I knew you were kidding about the climate change. You wasn't being a brat. Frankly I don't buy into the climate change nor the new green deal. And they can leave my natural gas alone. It is the cleanest utility we have.
  14. We are suppose to get rain later this evening. I better rain or I will need to water gardens again tonight or tomorrow morning. It has been hot again today. So no working in yard again this afternoon. Will get up at first light in the morning and work on gardens then if we don't get that rain. Still have more weeding to get done.
  15. Jeepers, you are doing great getting rid of things you might never use. I do have both den and living room plus dining room. It is a 3 bedroom house but the only bedroom suit will soon be just mine that I am using. I still have the dining room suit but no kitchen table. Just the counter top bar with bar stools. So I will continue to use the dining room during holidays plus I use it for craft stuff the rest of the time. GS just left a bit ago from washing clothes. He is working early tomorrow and will be here Tuesday for a cookout. Said he is planning on being here around noon. And he told me he now likes okra and eggplant fried. So now he is learning to eat more veggies. Just a little at a time is a good start. He was checking the garden and found 2 tiny watermelons. So now watching those also. The cantaloupe isn't doing anything. Been going through things in garage today. Boxing up more junk to go to Goodwill. Ambergris is right. It does make you feel free to not have all that stuff around that you will never use. But at least I am able to help GS out with things he will need and use. He is the last one to be helping out so after that even more stuff will be going out of here. Just the thought of not having all that stuff to clean and dust every week is a blessing. Jeepers it is hard to let some things go but that is progress. I am learning now that I just don't need things I used to use and haven't used in well over a year. Haven't gotten to the shed yet and I want to get to that material. Might just go out there and move things around to get to it. I moved a lot of things out there to make room for DH's wheelchair and other things that I was needing for him. Those things I am keeping as it is now part of my preps. So I am storing a wheelchair, 2 cains, walker, rollator, bedside commode, and a few other things. Once the shed is cleaned out, I will be putting all of that in there in one corner. I want to run a small window air conditioner in there as it does get very hot in there during the summer months. Something to think about.
  16. I don't even know if they have a phone number. Around here it is controlled by the city. They spray according to where the worse of the mosquito population is. Yep, Cranny Island is awful. One of the worst areas to live around. that is where the Coast Guard base is. Hope the Grandkids don't try to find a house in that area.
  17. Just heard from GD in Washington state. They are doing good. No fires near her area and no smoke either. Still haven't heard from GD in CA yet. Annarchy I think these wildfires have been happening for years but seem to be getting much worse. Makes me wonder what is really going on with them. Either someone is starting one by throwing a lit cigarette out of a window while driving down the road and it catches fire, or a lighting strike or something. Either way they are getting worse and harder to control. Not sure if climate change would have anything to do with it but can't rule it out either.
  18. I didn't know it either. Have a GD living in CA and one in Washington. Haven't heard from either for a few days. Will check on them in a bit. Looks like from that map it is right over where they live. But hard to tell. I know we are still getting a slight haze from the one in Canada or at least that is the fires I am thinking it is from. Yep these fires will not be good for a lot of reasons other than displaced wildlife and trees all burnt up. Not to mention people's homes and them being displaced. The farmers will be having a hayday with that many fires.
  19. Freezer was still good and running. Seems something was blocking the intake air valve or something. But now everything is back in freezer and it is working great. Was going to can the port tomorrow morning if it didn't start working again and take the rest of food to neighbors house. I put the pork back in freezer since it was still frozen. I would rather wait to get it all done at one time as I have about 6 more rolls of pork loin in the big freezer. So will do it all at same time after Grandkids are settled and not running all over my house for things. GD and her DH are back from New Jersey. They are still here and staying with his parents as his grandparents are here also from out of town and he wants to spend time with them before going back home. They are also looking for a place to live. Hoping to find a house versus an apartment. GD's DH has to report in 2 weeks and they have nowhere to live yet. Hope they find something soon.
  20. Annarchy, 114* is way to hot. I heard with el nino weather pattern, the temps in a lot of places are going to be really high this year. Could last anywhere from 3 to 10 years they say. I think they said the middle of country will get the worse of it. I hope they are wrong. Highest I remember it getting here was 99* and that was bad. Had to practically tie DH to his chair to keep him from going outside. He would get dehydrated easy and with his health he didn't need to be working in garden. Men can be stubborn. But I won.
  21. Those are really bad. I have seen pictures of what they can do. It's not good. We are in the 90's here today. To hot to do anything outside. Though this morning I did pick some squash again and a cucumber. This is the first really hot day we have had so far. Not looking for this heat. But it is summer time now. Have 2 fans in pantry and the ceiling fan going as I want it to stay really cool in that room. I will be doing that every summer now that the pantry in in a bedroom. So far it is the coolest room in the house.
  22. Miki, that was a good idea to file an incident report. Hopefully they will do a drive through now and again to check out things. I hope they catch who is doing that. Went out to the old fridge in garage. Wanted to get something out of that freezer. Glad I did. things were still frozen but ice had formed on freezer and it is a self frosting one. Moved all the meat and things into the cooler for now and cleaned all the ice out and wiped freezer down. Right now it is closed up to see if it will still freeze or if I have an issue. It is stifling hot outside today. In the 90*'s. If the freezer will not freeze again, will take all the pork I have and move to indoor fridge to can tomorrow. If that turns out to be the case there will be no church tomorrow as I must take care of this issue. The rest will go across street to my neighbors house to put in her garage freezers. Yep every freezer in my house is slam full and I need to get busy with canning it all. I have enough squash now to can but it won't be a canner full. But at least I can get that done while I am at it. I am in house trying to cool down now. I was soaking wet just emptying out the freezer and then breaking up the ice and cleaning it up. Plugged in the old fan to run in garage for a while. That will help keep the temps down. Darlene, I am so glad your brother was found safe and sound.
  23. Heard early this morning that the mosquito trucks are starting to go through other areas that are being hit the hardest right now. They said that if you have honey bees to cover them up and those that are allergic to stay indoors. They said the rain has caused a huge increase in mosquitoes this year.
  24. I heard about the derecho winds about 2 or 3 years ago as well. They are really bad winds. Hope the corn fields make a good comeback from it. Mother glad you were not affected by the worst of it. Don't know how hurricane season will affect us here yet but the Atlantic is churning with tropical storms this year. I know that will bring us a lot of rain but just don't want to have the hurricanes with it.
  25. Mt. Rider, glad you now have electric working again. That is a must. Jeepers, Glad you now have electric working in the bedroom again. Ceiling fans are a must in hot weather. Becca Anne, glad you made it home safe and sound and your son did a great job of taking care of everything while you were gone. I know you are proud of him. Today, I am just worn out. No energy. GS should be here sometime today to wash clothes. I think GD, her DH, DD and SIL will all be here next weekend along with GD's BIL to help move the bedroom suit out. Not letting GD do any lifting as she is now about 5 months preg. I need to hide the baby gifts in closet as right now everything is on my dresser. Not working in garden today as it is really hot outside today. So working on things in house. Moving the books off the bookcase in hallway so I can move the bookcase into one of the other bedrooms out of the way for them to get the bedroom suit out. Not sure I will put that bookcase back in hall but in the front bedroom instead. Then I can keep my craft books and other books I use in it and move the other books to another spot. Can't wait to get my house back in order and organized again. Should be able to start getting that done as soon as I can get a painter in to paint that bedroom and the hallway. Then it will be gun ho with some canning in between. I think everyone will be having a very busy summer this year with so much going on in this world. Not to mention canning, gardens, working on houses, and so on. Hopefully after fall harvest everything will calm down at least for a while and we can all catch our breaths.
