  1. I love fish. DH used to go deep sea fishing and we had fresh tuna, tilapia, and a couple of other fish. canned tuna can't hold a candle to fresh tuna. We either made a salad or grilled it on the grill. That was some good eating back in the day. I am so tired right now. It's like something just zapped my energy. And my knee is killing me. All I did was drive GS to gas station and we tried again to jump the battery and still nothing. Called the tow truck so car is in shop. The guy on tow truck checked the battery and that is good. He thinks it is the starter, but we will hopefully know tomorrow. In the meantime, I will just let him use my car to go to work till he gets his back. I could drive him there and pick him up, but he has days he might not get off till 2am. I'm not picking him up in the middle of the night. It's only temporary and we will get through this. Can't say much for his bank account as this isn't going to be cheap. Tow truck and the repair. GD got laid off work and now she wants me to keep the baby twice a week so she can clean her house. So, after keeping the baby 5 days a week. When do I get to clean my house? She said she is not going to get another job, which her plan was to be a stay-at-home mom. That is good. But since she is staying home and not working, I need the time to get my stuff done. I still have all the Christmas boxes sitting in the dining room and they have to go. I need time to do things I need to get done. Sometimes I feel like I am being taken advantage of. No offers of any help yet either. So, I am on my own. GS helps on his days off with outside work and if I need help with something in the house, he will help me with that. Despite all the issues he has put me through, he will help around here a little bit. DD wants me to come visit During Easter, but with my knee and shoulder it is not happening. Just driving to the garage with GS to give them the keys and such started my knee hurting as well as my shoulder. I'm staying home for Easter.
  2. Not going to make it to JoAnn's this morning and probably not to GDs for lunch. GS went to the store last night and called me. Car won't start. I went down to store with the jumper cables and nope not the battery. Seems it's the starter. He's sleeping now as he didn't go to bed till after 4 this morning. He's upset about having a car repair as he doesn't know yet about paying taxes or getting money back. Reason I keep telling him to save money for a rainy day. Things happen. So, I have another day of not being able to do things I need or want to do. But he can't help the car breaking down. Don't know yet if he will have to have it towed back to house or not. Waiting for neighbor to come home from work and get him to go over to look at it before making any decisions on what to do. My GD's DH can put in the starter for GS if that is what it is for sure. Otherwise, it will have to go in shop depending on what other possibility it might be.
  3. Jeepers, you will get through this. My doctor called me this afternoon. I have a lot of fluid on my right knee and bursitis in my shoulder. He wants me to keep my knee elevated at all times with ice packs and no walking. Yeah, right like that's going to happen. He's sending me to orthopedic doctor. All they are going to do is send me to therapy. But will see if it helps. They are supposed to call me to set up an appointment at some time. Therapy is what I had when I had both tenuities and bursitis in my right shoulder and that helped but not sure about the knee with being fluid. But at least this time he did something about it and took X-Rays this time. This issue has been going on for too long, so maybe now that I know what is going on, I can get it taken care of soon. Almost forgot. GS woke up and when he sat up toys went everywhere. He was like what is all this. Sent a picture to his cell phone. Then he got to laughing and said next time put toys all over me for my age.
  4. That was good. I haven't heard the can, can in a long, long time. But for exercise. Nope, not going to happen. I would probably fall on my face doing those kicks.
  5. Jeepers, JoAnn fabric sales the Gutterman. It is where all the spools of thread are. Get it while you can if they have it on sale now. I don't know if it is on sale yet, but they have coupons also. They finished the gutters a while ago. So now it is all done. Looks really good and the rain barrels are all set up now. Baby went home a little while ago. She fell asleep in my arms watching U-Tube baby shows on my computer. She loved them. They were the old nursery rhymes. Went right out and slept for a while. As for GS, he is off work today and fell asleep on couch. Took baby toys and put all around him and took a picture. Have to say when he wakes up it is going to be hilarious. Stuffed animals, teething rings, all kinds of toys. Tomorrow, I am going to JoAnn fabrics first thing in the morning and then head over to GD's house to lunch. Don't know where we are going yet. But it will be I nice day to get out and spend some time with her and the baby doing something other than her working and my babysitting.
  6. Jeepers, they have just started getting things together for the chapter 11. I don't think they are closing any stores as of yet but will be coming on the stores that are underperforming first. Right now, they have a lot of sales going on and one e=mail said 70% off. I think they are going to just try to reduce the amount of inventory they have right now and not restock a lot. From my understanding they are one to ten million in debt right now depending on what stores and where. I think we are ok for a while, but I want to take advantage of the sales they are having now as the selection will be much better. right now. The quilt shop down the street from me sales the brand of thread I need for my sewing machine but at a much higher price. I know Walmart sales material again now, but they have very poor selections and don't carry my thread. I think what they are going to try to do is get out of debt and then go as an independent instead of corporation. Or something like that.
  7. euphrasyne, I remember the summers I spent with my grandparents and all the things they used to do when I was there. I also miss those days. Loved staying at my grandparents' homestead. I learned a lot that I would have never learned with my parents. My parents never did a garden even though they had enough of a yard to put in a good size one. And my mom never canned anything. Growing up she was just never interested in any of that. She did a little bit of sewing but not much of that either. Midnightmom, I will check out those sites as soon as I get some free time that will last more than an hour at most right now.
  8. Mt. Rider, that sounded like a rough day with all that snow. Just glad you and your DH made it to and from with no issues other than the cold and breathing it in. I have been down that road before. Just not in this area. It can make your lungs feel rather rough and unable to get a deep breath from what I had experienced. Hope neither of you come down sick from it. The guy's got the siding done yesterday but have to come back to put up the gutters and set the rain barrels in place. GD will be here around 10 or 10:30. This time she is going to work here instead of going back home. At least the baby will be happy when she gets hungry. The new bottles should be here tomorrow, but I am free tomorrow and going to take a trip to Newport News to JoAnn's fabric shop. They have a 70% sale off everything I think the e-mail said. Need to go back and check. They have filed chapter 11 bankruptcy also. They are the only fabric shop we have left so hope they can pull out of it. We have a quilt shop down the road from us but very expensive. I want to get more thread for my sewing machine as it will only take a certain type. Mettlers and Guterman. The machine does better with the Guterman thread though. I thought I had some embroidery hoops, but I must have given them to one of the kids and never got them back or something, so need to get a couple of those and some embroidery thread. Need to check on the colors I need before I go tomorrow. Not sure what else I want yet. I really don't want any more material as I still have a lot. But not as much as it was. The baby blankets I gave to the church for the Pregnancy crises center, they liked them and want me to make more. I still have enough material to make a few but need to look to see if I have enough. DD took a lot of the material I had left. So may need to buy some for the crises center. DD makes hammocks for the wild animal cages. So, she took material for that and some other things.
  9. When I do get the time to make it, it will be the first time doing it. Hope it will come out as good as yours MidNightMom.
  10. Jeepers, that is a lot of appointments to deal with. But at least you will have that out of the way before the move permanently to Indy. I loaned GS the money to fill his tank. He is short on money this week and doesn't get paid till Thursday. Gas prices has been going up almost weekly and I didn't want him to wait to get gas and it goes up again before he gets paid. He is always good at paying me back. That is one thing I have never had an issue with. We also have taxes on our gas but don't know what is now. If I remember right, I think they lowered it 2 or 3 years ago but can't remember for sure. The gutter guys didn't show up till after 11am. They got the siding all replaced and tomorrow they will be back to install the gutters. Then that job will be done. Then I will take a break on repairs and replacing things to let my savings build back up again. Trying to do a little at a time and pay cash for it as I go. Once I get savings built up to where I want it again, I need to decide replacing the patio door and the 2 storm doors or all the outside light fixtures. I will need to check prices before making the decision. Hoping I can do both at the same time. But depends on how the prices are with this inflation we are in. The baby was doing really good today till she woke up from her nap. It was a don't give me that bottle I want boob. So, she screamed for a while. Daddy came to pick her up and she still didn't stop crying. He couldn't get her to take the bottle either. So, he gave her back to me. We got her packed up and he got her in the car seat which she also hates. But as soon as that little rascal got home, she got her boob and was a happy camper. So, I did some research on babies that refuse a bottle when they are mostly breast fed and I hope the one I bought will work. It states it is for babies like her that refuse anything other than the boob. I hate seeing her crying for food and I can't help her because of refusing the bottle. Not that she would have missed meal colic. She is one chubby baby.
  11. Glad it missed you Jeepers. You can keep the snow though. I was so far lucky again this year. No snow. My driveway is huge, and I bear to shovel.
  12. Miki, we must have been typing at the same time. Enjoy your family when they get there tomorrow. I am sure you will all have some fun time.
  13. Mt. Rider, sorry to hear about your neighbor's house fire. But glad it was not too bad. But then any fire is bad when it comes to your house. Prayers that she will do fine in this weather and be able to get the repairs done easily. Hope all is well with your appointment. Necie, you have been really busy getting the soaps and lotions ready for the flea market. Hope it all sells out for you. The Biden administration has been selling off the oil from the refineries on the East Coast causing the gas prices to go up. I keep hearing rumors that the prices are going way up this time around. Makes me wonder if my 36 gals. I have is going to help much as I at some point will have to refill the cans. The gutter guys will be here around 9am. this morning. So just waiting on them and then the baby will be here at 1pm. washing clothes right now so that job will be done before the baby comes. Need to make a couple of phone calls this morning but they don't open till 9am. So will wait till after the gutter guys are here so I can answer any questions they might have and then come in and make my calls. My bank and I are about to have it out. I have my dental insurance on auto pay. They didn't pay it in January, put paid in February and now it is past due for March because the bank didn't pay it again. Might have to do something different for payment. So will talk to the dental insurance people first to see what happened this time and then will be going to the bank as soon as I get some free time. Baby goes home at 4pm today so will go right after they leave if the gutter guys are gone by then. Euphrosyne, Happy Anniversary to the both of you. I know you are having a great time.
  14. OOTO, I am in process of building up a collection of books for the baby. So will check into those books you mention above also. All the books I had for both my DD and 5 Grandchildren got pretty worn out. So, went into a yard sale. So now starting over again for Greatgrandchildren. Gas has gone up here to 3.49. It is jumping at 10 to 15 cents at a time now. GS has gone to bed so now have the house to myself. He has been tired the last couple of days. I hope he's not coming down with this mess also. I have been spraying everything down with Lysol and cleaning. So, hoping that will keep him from getting it and he is just tired from working. He had to go to his other grandparents' house to fix their TV. All they did was push a wrong button and knocked it off the stations. So, nothing serious. They both have dementia, and it is getting worse. When he got back home, he said they were in bad shape. GS said his grandfather asked him if he would just bill him. Sort of caught him off guard. He said no charge it's free. He thought grandson was a repair man. That disease is so sad.
  15. Hoping she missed that one. Jeepers, let us know how you faired on that one. It looks really bad.
  16. Got dinner finished and kitchen cleaned up. They come tomorrow to put the new gutters in and set up the rain barrels. GS helped me get those into place and the hoses and things hooked up. So will be good to go on the next rains. They hold 50 gallons each. So enough to water pots and things on each end of the house. Also babysitting tomorrow but she won't be here till 1pm and then her DH will pick her up at 4pm. so short day tomorrow for babysitting. GD said the baby is not in a good mood. Between teething and a growing spirt she's not a happy camper. I will just keep her interested in her books and toys. That usually quiets her down. Yeah, we have a bumble ball, and she loves it as well as a walking turtle that plays music and has lights. Those toys will entertain her for hours. Going to be a busy day tomorrow. But at least my energy is coming back. Didn't take the chance of going to church this morning as the whole church either has the flu, upper raspatory infection, or covid. Don't think my immune system is back up to par to fight off all that right now.
  17. The sauerkraut looks really good. When I get more time, I will need to start doing that. I do have a couple of gal. jars I can use. I have never made it before because we never really ate it that much. But would like to make at least one gal. of it.
  18. We are in the high 70's today. Really nice and sunny today. Heading back out to finish the last water barrel soon. Needed GS's help on that but didn't want to disturb him while doing his taxes. He uses Turbo tax.
  19. Feeling much better today and my energy is starting to come back. Got everything together for taxes to be done. Finally got the last thing in on Sat. after I threatened them with the IRS and BBB. Seemed to have worked but took forever. Went to store this morning to pick up a few things I was out of and for things for GS for fast heat up meals for when he gets home from work. I didn't make up anything for him for this week with not feeling well. He has been craving orange juice lately. So got two big bottles of orange juice also. Figure the vit. C will be good for him. Working on the rain barrels as the guys will be here tomorrow to put in the new gutters. They are way past due to be replaced. Cooking steak tonight with fried potatoes and salad. GS wants mashed potatoes and gravy and fried potatoes. Not so sure about that. But then I can't get him to eat a salad.
  20. Mt. Rider, I agree. I don't like tornados either. We have been very fortunate around here as we only had one that came near us and took out the pumping station and city water in some areas. That has been years ago, and we haven't had any more near here. That one did a lot of damage though. We will be having hurricane season coming up later in the year. Not looking forward to that either as so far, we have been very fortunate around here, but it only takes one. Necie and jeepers, glad you are both safe from that. I really feel for those people that was in that camp site. Looked like nothing was left.
  21. Temps are warming up now. In the low 60's. Not much in rain just some sprinkles during the night as my GS was saying. Don't think we will get the bad weather everyone else is getting. Mt. Rider glad you still have electricity. Hope it stays that way.
  22. Annarchy, that picture is beautiful. You did a great job. You definitely have good talent. Mt. Rider, time for a move to Maui, that snow is getting to be too much for the both of you. I haven't done much of anything other than resting. Usually, I work through it, but this cold got me down. Took Benadryl last night and it knocked me on my feet. I slept in till about 11am. That is not like me. But the Benadryl did help a lot. I don't have congestion in my head any longer but still have it in my throat. Cough is not as deep. So will take another Benadryl tonight then stop taking it. I need to get an allergy pill that doesn't make you sleepy during the daytime. I have a list of yardwork I need to get started on also. No thinks to my yard man who came and cut the grass and we talked about the mulch and trimming back the bushes on one side of the house, and he didn't show up to do it again. So, going to talk to the girl across the street from me. She has a friend that does her parents' house which is also right across the street from me. But I don't want any weed killer used unless it is a natural one. I think I have a recipe for making a natural one somewhere. All I can remember about it is white vinegar. Will have to look it up. I don't want Round up or anything like it in my flower beds. So, hoping next week I will be able to get back to working on yard again. GS and I was looking for the best place to put the raised beds. We both have ideas on that. So, need to put our plans together and get started on it real soon.
  23. Good buy Midnightmom, I have only checked out one store so far and it is on sale for 49 cent a head. I was going to the store today but just didn't feel like it. But the sale is through Tuesday. Need to check out a couple of other stores. I am wanting some corned beef and cabbage.
  24. We may just get rain but haven't seen how cold it will get yet. Draining the well pump might have not been necessary but better safe than sorry. Really hoping some of it goes around us.
  25. Thank you everyone for the well wishes. Tonight, I am feeling a bit better after taken a steam shower. Still very tired though. GS has done well. He was off today and worked on the wood pile when he got home from getting his hair cut. He did well with cleaning up the kitchen because his mother dared him not to clean it. It's about time she backed me up on things with him. I missed not being able to keep the baby but didn't want to take a chance of her getting reinfected. I am supposed to babysit again on Monday so praying I will be over this mess. My Sunday school teacher called me this morning and I could barely talk. But I am doing better on that issue. I laid on the couch most of the day just streaming movies and such. And I did sleep quite a bit as well. GS said I will need to buy at least 4 to 5 more log holders. I think this guy gave me way more than 2 cords of wood plus a little over. He has already stacked another cord and still have a long way to go. I will need to get better tarps also. I am making a list and checking it twice. My Lowe's trip is getting longer and longer. When I pulled the rain barrels out of the boxes and was looking at the instructions the other day. It has the tubes to connect several rain barrels side by side for one down spout. So, one barrel will fill the one next to it and so on. It would be easy to connect more than one. Maybe somewhere down the line but it's not on my list to do it. But a great option. We were in the high 70's today and then this evening it started to springle but no hard rain yet. I did go outside and took care of the well and drained it. Just in case we get the freezing cold and snow. Might not have been necessary but I am not taking any chances with the pump. And that hand pump is all some. It puts out a good hard steady flow of water.
